Apex Legends is one of those super-rare games that seems to come along out of nowhere, and then strikes the right chord with millions upon millions of gamers a mere month after its launch -- over 50 million gamers and counting, in fact. In 2019, it certainly helps to have the phrases "battle royale" and "free-to-play" tied to a game, but developer Respawn has proven once again that "free" games can be great. It takes a good game to hook gamers, and take on Goliaths in the industry, like Fortnite. There are many ways developers of successful games can prolong that success. Actually listening to the concerns of the fan base is key, as is taking care of any bugs or community issues within the game... Read more...
Pitting players in a battle royale scenario where the map shrinks until only one person or squad is left standing is all the rage right now—see the success of PlayerUnknown's Battleground (PUBG), Fortnite, or more recently Apex Legends as evidence of this. Battlefield V will be joining the fray, and a leaked tutorial purportedly gives us a first look at the upcoming mode. It's called Firestorm, and from what I can discern from the tutorial, it will be very similar to PUBG. That's to say you will drop on a map, scrounge around for weapons for yourself and any potentially teammates, and grab backpacks for additional storage capacity on your person. You can also be revived by a teammate while... Read more...
Anthem players who spent hours grinding and leveling up and working towards a potent Masterwork endgame weapon were dismayed to find out that they already possessed the most powerful weapon in the game—a first-level common Defender Rifle. Despite what the numbers show, there is a bug that allows it to kill enemies faster than a level 45 Masterwork Ralner Blaze Rifle. This was put to the test by Reddit user YeetLordSupreme. Out of curiosity, he decided to quantify the damage amounts of different weapons. That's when he stumbled upon the bug. Using the level 1 common Defender Rifle, he recorded a single bullet doing 286 damage against a normal Scar Trooper. His level 45 Masterwork Ralner... Read more...
Apex Legends has been a dominant force in the gaming scene ever since it launched in early February, quickly amassing 50 million players in just a month (far outpacing the performance of the current battle royale champion, Fortnite). With that being said, gamers are looking for the "Next Big Thing" with Apex Legends, and according to new report, Respawn Entertainment is ready to deliver. The first bit of news is the report that the game's first Battle Pass is expected to drop next week; March 12th to be exact. At this point, it's unknown what that battle pass will entail, or how long it will last. And more importantly, we have no clue how much it will cost at this time. “The... Read more...
One of the most frustrating things for tech fans is when the games or products they pay hard earned money for don't work as promised, and the manufacturer won't even admit there is a problem. This is what has been troubling gamers on the PS4 who purchased EA's Anthem. Anthem has been crashing PS4 consoles leaving the game unplayable and many asking Sony for refunds on the purchase. Sony has allegedly been giving some Anthem players refunds while denying others. While the issue is still not fixed and the problems haven't been addressed, EA has at least stepped up and admitted that there is a problem with Anthem crashing on the PS4. EA Help tweeted that, "We're aware of a crashing issuing" noting... Read more...
Electronic Arts is having serious issues with Anthem right now, and many gamers are not happy at all. However, players are reporting that Sony has given them refunds for the game. The reason gamers are wanting refunds on Anthem has to do with PS4 console crashes caused by the game. One Reddit user claims to have been given a full refund on the game with "no questions asked" noting that the refund only took five minutes. Other PS4 gamers have also claimed that they have been given refunds on the game with one user indicating they told customer support chat that they were concerned about the game bricking their console and Anthem was a defective product. However, there are reports from... Read more...
Apex Legends has only been out for two weeks, but the game may already soon receive a major update. Data miners have discovered the names of two possible future Apex Legends heroes and the names of their special abilities. “Octane” and “Wattson” may soon be added to the game’s limited roster. Octane will boast some sort of “Stimpack” ability. In Titanfall 2, “stims” quickly heal the user and boost their speed. Apex Legends' hero “Lifeline” is already a combat medic, so Octane’s ability may focus more on speed. Wattson will reportedly have some ability called “Tesla Trap”. Some have theorized that this character... Read more...
Cheating in multiplayer games is rampant, highly annoying, and regrettably it is largely unavoidable. The important thing is, how do the developers respond? In the case of Apex Legends, the hot new battle royale that has taken the gaming scene by storm, developer Respawn Entertainment is actively hunting down and banning cheaters, and would like your help in continuing the effort. "Cheaters suck. If you run into one, please try and capture the evidence and let us know... Even if you don’t get proof, get their ID and flag it and we can investigate the account. We have heard your feedback about a report feature in the game. I’ll just say that’s a very good idea :)," a Respawn... Read more...
EA isn't happy with Battlefield V and its performance; the game was called out as the big reason that the company fell short of its earnings goal and its stock tanked. EA was lucky enough that Apex Legends launched and brought its stock back from the a steep nosedive. EA is still working on Battlefield V and delivering new content to the game; it has announced that the Tides of War Chapter 2: Lightning Strikes Update #3 is now available. Two of the key changes in the update are the addition of NVIDIA Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) support and optimized ray tracing for GeForce RTX graphics cards. If those two features don't excite you, the update has also added four-player co-op to the... Read more...
Apex Legends has been a smash hit for EA and Respawn Entertainment. The game single-handedly turned EA's sagging stock around after an earnings miss when it launched earlier this month. Within eight hours of launch, the game had a million players fighting it out on the battle royal battleground. Within three days, Apex Legends had 10 million players, and now Vince Zampella is offering up new statistics on the game along while teasing some of what is coming up. According to Zampella, more than 25 million gamers have played Apex Legends since last Monday. Over the weekend the game bosted "well over" 2 million concurrent players at its peak. Zampella also talks about the creation of the thriving... Read more...
Seemingly out of nowhere, Apex Legends has taking the gaming scene by storm and is shaping up to be a formidable rival to Fortnite in the battle royale space. Since launching on February 4, Apex Legends has generated some impressive numbers, not the least of which is the total number of hours it has amassed on Twitch. At the time of this writing, Apex Legends is enjoying over 215,000 viewers on Twitch, compared to Fortnite's more than 68,000 viewers. It is the top game on Twitch right now, with League of Legends in a somewhat distant second with 140,515 viewers at this moment in time. Apex Legend has topped the charts on Twitch since it came out. In total, it has generated 11 million more total... Read more...
It's been quite the rollercoaster ride for shares of EA lately. The company saw its latest entry in its bread and butter Battlefield franchise, Battlefield V underperform, sending its stock shares plummeting. Then its subsidiary Respawn Entertainment launched Apex Legends, and it singlehandedly turned things around for EA. Apex Legends launched as a surprise earlier this month and boasted a million players within eight hours. The game then went on to bring in 10 million players in only 72 hours after launch and the title was obviously beginning to spread like wildfire among gamers. The announcement that the game had landed so many players in three days was enough to send shares... Read more...
In the world of video games, there is always something new in the works to challenge the dominant player in any genre. Such was the case for PUBG when Fortnite first hit the scene, taking the vast majority of battle royale players with it. Fortnite now has new competition for players with Apex Legends having launched as a surprise to most, and it quickly racked up massive player numbers. Apex Legends launched early this month and within eight hours of launch had 1 million players battling for the win. Within three days of launch, Apex Legends had 10 million players. The marketing crew over at Epic Games sees that Apex Legends is offering competition that other games hailed as being Fortnite killers... Read more...
Electronic Arts may very well have a hit on its hands with Apex Legends, the free-to-play battle royale shooter developed by Respawn Entertainment, but any financial success it generates will have to wait for another day. As it pertains to EA's third fiscal quarter ended December 31, 2018, the numbers are down from what the publisher was expecting, due in part to Battlefield V under performing. So where exactly did the numbers land? EA shared some preliminary figures showing $1.29 billion in revenue, including $908 million from digital sales and $381 million from packaged goods and "other net revenue." That resulted in a profit of $262 million, or 86 cents per share, compared with loses of $186... Read more...
Developer Respawn Entertainment and publisher Electronic Arts have a hit on their hands with Apex Legends, a free-to-play game that went live yesterday and broke a million unique players in under eight hours. It is an incredible stat, and it underscores how wildly popular the battle royale genre is right now, as if we didn't already know. We only have to look at Fortnite to see the potential of a battle royale shooter. Epic Games is raking in billions of dollars through in-game purchases, while the top streamers are bringing in some serious coin, too—Tyler Blevins, the 27-year-old who is popularly known as Ninja, made $10 million in 2018 by streaming his Fortnite gameplay. Respawn Entertainment... Read more...

In Super Bowl XXXVI, a young quarterback named Tom Brady led the New England Patriots over a seemingly improbable victory over the St. Louis Rams, an opponent that was otherwise known at the time as 'The Greatest Show on Turf'. Now 17 years, the Rams, having since relocated to Los Angeles, will exact its revenge by defeating the Patriots and the league's oldest quarter (still Tom Brady) in Super Bowl LIII, according to a simulation run by Madden NFL 19. I call hogwash, but as a native (and now displaced) New Englander, I'm also incredibly biased. That aside, though, I do have cause for concern. It has nothing to do with Tom Brady's age—sorry Max Kellerman, but the cliff you speak of is... Read more...
Black Friday and Cyber Monday may have come and gone, but if you are still on the hunt for deals on console video games, Target has one for you. Target is offering Battlefield V on the PS4 and the Xbox One platforms for $29.99, which is a huge 50% discount off the regular $59.99 retail price. It's unusual to see a major AAA title like this discounted so heavily only two weeks post-launch. Battlefield V takes the franchise back to its WWII roots and introduces women in combat. That move angered some delicate Battlefield fans who cried foul, claiming it wrecked the historical accuracy of the game. Shortly after the announcement of the game featuring women in combat, the game developers stepped... Read more...
EA announced that it will partner with Petroglyph Games to remaster Command And Conquer, which is one of the oldest games in the RTS genre. The original Command And Conquer first launched in 1995 and quickly became a success, spawning a whole series of games. It also lead to the creation of the Red Alert series, which has a similar gameplay experience, but it is set in an alternate universe. Due to Command And Conquer's success, EA purchased the game's developer, Westwood Studios, in 1998. Westwood Studios continued to produce new entries in the Command And Conquer series until 2003, when EA closed it down and moved development of future Command And Conquer to a number of other developers. In a little over five weeks from now, Battlefield V will land on PC and consoles in finished form, bringing with it both multiplayer and single player action. Publisher Electronic Arts released a new trailer that shows off elements of the latter. It's a little over two minutes long and gives a glimpse of the various War Stories that will comprise the single player campaign. "Discover the untold stories of World War 2 with Battlefield V's single player War Stories. One of the problems with multiplayer is that it only takes a small number of loud mouthed, racist jerks to ruin the experience for the community at large. In an effort to prevent this, Electronic Arts and DICE have implemented a profanity filter into Battlefield V, which is currently being tested in open beta ahead of the game's polished release. That's all fine and dandy, except that EA and DICE have chosen to censor some goofy words. Like what, you ask? In its current state, players are prohibited from saying that nasty "D" word in the Battlefield V beta. You know, DLC, short for 'downloadable content'. Source: Reddit via nismost14270r The overzealous and, let's face it, downright nutty word... Read more...
