We are using the standard benchmark settings from Bapco, along with a few other minor system tweaks. The screensaver was disabled and the volume was set at approximately 20%.
MobileMark 2002 utilizes the following applications:
- Microsoft Word 2002
- Microsoft Excel 2002
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2002
- Microsoft Outlook 2002
- Netscape Communicator 6.0
- McAfee VirusScan 5.13
- Adobe Photoshop 6.0.1
- Macromedia Flash 5
- WinZip 8.0
Looking at the results above, we see that the ASUS VX1 has a very respectable 198 minutes of battery life. Considering the flagship level components used within the system, this is certainly an excellent result. Looking at other notebooks of this caliber, the ASUS VX1 holds a solid advantage. Perhaps the decision to utilize the GeForce Go 7400 GPU instead of a higher performance GPU is the key as the other notebooks utilized excellent gaming GPUs.

From this point on, Hot Hardware will be utilizing MobileMark 2005 for all aspects of battery life and mobile benchmarking. Unfortunately, we are starting from scratch and do not have a complete database of results from this benchmark suite thus far. As such, the ASUS VX1 represents the first of many systems to come that will be measured by this benchmark.
In similar fashion, we do not have any comparative data to evaluate the overall battery life score for the ASUS VX1 in MobileMark 2005. Regardless, it is interesting to see the roughly 10min variance in battery life between MobileMark 2002 and MobileMark 2005. Clearly, the load and stress has changed slightly between the two versions of this popular benchmark. Moving forward, all notebooks will be tested using the latest MobileMark 2005.
