LAME MT MP3 Encoding Test
In our custom LAME MT MP3 encoding test, we convert a large WAV file to the MP3 format, which is a very popular scenario. In this test, we created our own 223MB WAV file (a never-ending Grateful Dead jam) and converted it to MP3 format using the multi-thread capable LAME MT application in single and multi-thread modes.
Processing times are recorded below. Once again, shorter times equate to better performance.
Our LameMT test results were interesting. For one, multi-threaded testing was a tie between the Sabre and X6800 reference machine. What was peculiar was how single-threaded testing was a weak point, with the Sabre being topped by both Core 2 Duo comparison systems. These were consistently reproducible results every time. None of the AMD based systems came close to the Core 2 Duo machines, with the Voodoo Omen being the closest competitor that trailed the Sabre by 18-20 seconds.
