When you consider notebooks are easily the highest growth segment of the PC industry, isn't it sort of odd that we don't hear more about new product refresh efforts from the major OEMs? Intel continues to drive their 45nm process technology down through a larger cross-section of their Core 2 lineup, not only on the desktop side of their offering but also with their mobile CPUs. If you recall, recently we put Dell's XPS M1730 gaming notebook through its paces and came away impressed. Intel started slowly leaking information about an ultra high-end enthusiast platform dubbed Skulltrail at right about the same time that AMD’s now defunct QuadFX platform was set to be released. Thirty million transistors on the head of a pin. Think about that for a minute. Where on earth can you fit 30 million of anything in that amount of space? It seems like Intel started talking about the Penryn core as soon as the Conroe core launched in the form of the first Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Extreme processors. Penryn was to be the next evolution in Intel’s Core microarchitecture and would be the foundation of a new class of mobile, desktop, and server processor built using the company’s advanced 45nm manufacturing process. Penryn wouldn’t be a straight die-shrink of Conroe, however. Is Apple working on a new iPhone? We're not sure, but a recent html bug hints and a product called the iPhone Extreme. In the past we've reported the Comcast has been disconnecting broadband service to people it loosely defines as 'excessive' users. Comcast defines 'excessive' as homes or businesses that download about 3 motion pictures or roughly 1000 songs a day over an unspecified period of time.Users who violate this typically get a phone call or possibly other communication informing them that they have one month to set things straight. By now you've probably noticed that Intel launched a new family of desktop processors today, featuring a new core stepping and support for a 1333MHz front side bus speed; you can check out our evaluation of the Core 2 Extreme QX6850 with more information regarding the launch right here. What goes faster than a Core 2 Quad processor at 3GHz? Unfortunately, or fortunately depending on your perspective, nothing from AMD at the moment. Thankfully Intel has a few more "MHz in the can", or so to speak. Actually, it appears they may have a lot more, as you'll see in the pages that follow. Hello All. I ntel’s has just launched their latest flagship desktop processor, the Core 2 Extreme QX6850, and we’ve got it on the test-bench at here HotHardware.com. Here’s a snip: “It took a small voltage bump to 1.45V in the BIOS to hit 3.73GHz. To achieve this, we raised the FSB to 466MHz and dropped the multiplier to X8.
