Half-Life 2 (Continued)
|We ran a second set of benchmarks using a demo recorded in and around Half-Life 2's train station. The demo begins in an indoor environment and quickly moves outdoors where there is a ton of geometry in the form of large buildings, trees, and multiple characters. This demo is much more demanding than the one used on the previous page, as is evident by the much lower frame rates even when tested at the lower resolution. We also ran this next batch of timedemos at two resolutions, 1,024 x 768 and 1,600 x 1,200 with antialiasing and anisotropic filtering disabled and with 4X AA and 8X anisotropic filtering enabled simultaneously.|
Our second set of Half-Life 2 performance results mirror the first. Using this demo, the new Radeon X850 XT Platinum Edition was again the fastest card of the bunch, but it was able to stretch its leads by a few percentage points. In this set of timedemos, the X850 XT was only slightly faster than the other cards at 1,024 x 768. With the resolution set to 1,600 x 1,200, though, the X850 XT Platinum Edition was able to pull ahead of the X800 XT PE by a few frames per second and outperform the GeForce 6800 Ultra by about 18% once antialiasing and anisotropic filtering were enabled.
