ASUS ZenFone 3 Deluxe Review: Unlocked Android With 6GB RAM And 64GB Storage
ASUS ZenFone 3 Deluxe Design And Build Quality
The 5.7” ASUS ZenFone 3 Deluxe’s chassis is 156.4 mm (6.16 inches) tall, 77.4 mm (3.05 inches) wide, and roughly 4.2 - 7.5 mm (0.17 - 0.31 inches) thin. The thinness varies because the back of the device is curved and bulges out in the center, slightly. The phone weighs 172 grams (6.07 ounces) and is fairly well balanced.
After handling and inspecting the ZenFone 3 Deluxe, it is clear that this is a premium smartphone. It does, however, feel a little “sharper” in the hand for lack of a better word, than something like the Galaxy S7 Edge, and there is a bit of wobble to the buttons, but overall the phone feels good. The anodized finish feels somewhat slick, but we have yet to drop it, so it shouldn’t be any more of a concern than with other devices.
The 5.7” super AMOLED display on the ZenFone 3 Deluxe is bright and vibrant, but “only” has a 1920x1080 FullHD resolution. In practice, this is not a limitation and we never felt like the screen lacked pixel density, though we note this simply because there are plenty of similar sized phones out there with higher 2560x1440 resolutions.
As we’ve mentioned, there’s a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor with Adreno 530 graphics and 6GB of RAM inside the phone. Multiple storage options up to 256GB are available, but the phone is also expandable via a microSD card (up to 2TB), and ASUS includes 100GB of Google Drive storage free for two years as well.
The left side of the phone (when looking at the screen) is devoid of buttons, but houses the combination SIM / microSD tray and a microphone, while the right side is home to the volume rocker and on/off button. At the top there is a 3.5mm audio jack, and on the bottom you’ll find a USB type C connector, speaker grill, and another mic port. The front of the phone is all glass, with back, home, and overview / task menu buttons at the bottom and the front facing 8MP camera, speaker port, and indicator LED at the top.
There’s also lots happening on the back of the ZenFone 3 Deluxe. Smack dab in the center of a small, square protrusion is the rear-facing 23MP camera, flanked by the dual-LED flash and auto-focus lighting on either side. Just below the camera is the rectangular fingerprint sensor. The sensor is located in a fairly good position, where your finger is likely to land when picking up the phone. And in practice, we found the sensor to be fast and accurate once trained.
