Battery Performance
|
We are using the standard benchmark settings from Bapco, along with a few other minor system tweaks. The screensaver was disabled and the volume was set at approximately 20%.
MobileMark 2002 utilizes the following applications:
- Microsoft Word 2002
- Microsoft Excel 2002
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2002
- Microsoft Outlook 2002
- Netscape Communicator 6.0
- McAfee VirusScan 5.13
- Adobe Photoshop 6.0.1
- Macromedia Flash 5
- WinZip 8.0
Given the fact that the Area-51 m5500 comes stock with a 6-cell lithium battery instead of the 9-cell optional battery, we were not surprised to see the system return battery performance results that landed it near the bottom of the pack. Although it is not a front runner in this benchmark, the system's performance was still solid and would have been significantly better had the 9-cell battery been chosen when the system was configured.
At first glance, the results for the Area-51 m5500's battery life would make most run in the opposite direction. However, we must remember that the system came stock with a tiny 6-cell battery (likely to save weight) instead of the more conventional 9-cell battery. As a result, the system is at a distinct disadvantage in this field. Regardless, it is interesting to note the vast difference in battery life between using the Intel IGP and the NVIDIA GeForce Go 6600.
