Just because the 915P chipset is intended for more mainstream applications than Intel's 925X doesn't mean manufacturers are content to abide by those rough guidelines. ASUS' P5GD2 Premium agressively pushes the boundary between mainstream and enthusiast, finding itself more comfortable in the latter category than the former.
Even without perusing the board itself, ASUS' bundled hardware and software suite is indicative of the P5GD2's completeness. It comes with 10 Serial ATA cables, enough Serial ATA power cables to connect eight hard drives, one header with USB 2.0 and game port connections, an ordinary serial port header, three IDE cables, one floppy cable, a header with IEEE 1394b connectivity and an RJ-45 Gigabit Ethernet connection, a wireless antenna, an external Serial ATA connector, and of course, a highly specialized I/O shield to cover the board's back plate.
Included software comes in the form of Intervideo's WinDVD suite – admittedly not the most celebrated playback software, but free nonetheless. ASUS also includes its PC Probe application for monitoring fan speeds, temperatures, and voltages, ASUS Update, a Windows-based BIOS updating utility, and the software necessary to configure the onboard Wi-Fi controller.
