915P Chipset Roundup: ABIT AG8, ASUS P5GD2 Premium, and Foxconn 915A01-P
Foxconn's 915A01-P Details & Specs
If ASUS' P5GD2 Premium typifies the most that a manufacturer can do with the 915P chipset, then Foxconn's 915PA01-P represents the other end of the spectrum. That's not a bad thing, either. The 915A01-P offers most of the same performance-oriented features, yet costs almost $100 less than ASUS' board. At roughly the same price as ABIT's AG8, the Foxconn platform adds DDR2 memory support, which ABIT lacks, in addition to high-definition 7.1-channel audio.
Foxconn's hardware bundle is minimalist, but it still covers all of the important bases. There's a pair of Serial ATA cables, a power adapter that accommodates two SATA drives, floppy and IDE cables, a coaxial S/PDIF header, two extra USB 2.0 ports on a header, a custom I/O shield, and the requisite user manual. The software bundle actually comes with Norton Internet Security 2004, which doesn't represent Symantec's best work, but the inclusion of a full antivirus application is certainly helpful.
