Progress never stops in the video and TV world with resolutions creeping ever higher. It took a while for us to finally get 1080p programming to support the TVs that had been around for years. Further infrastructure advances took us to 4K resolution TVs, and while there aren't any 4K resolution primetime shows from major networks, owners of those TVs can get their fix with movies, Netflix, streaming content, and digital rentals. Facebook rolled out its new video platform called Facebook Watch about a year ago promising original programming for fans to enjoy. Initially, the service was only available in the U.S.; Facebook is changing that with the announcement today that Facebook Watch is rolling out globally. Anyone who owns a significant number of shares in Netflix is about to have a good day. The streaming service reported better-than-expected earnings for its fiscal third period late on Monday, which in turn sent its stock price up by as much as 20 percent in after market trading. A new standard is set to allow native HDMI output for devices with USB Type-C connectors. It could prove to be a great feature as more smartphones, notebooks, 2-in-1s, and tablet devices adopt the next generation USB interface and ultimately enable another option for these devices to act as media streamers or for big screen gaming on the go.
