We all know that the Ford Mustang is the quintessential pony car with an abundance of power, tail-happy handling, and a penchant for mowing down pedestrians at Cars and Coffee events. If the newly launched 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500's 760 horsepower isn't enough for you, then this one-off Mustang Lithium will surely blow your socks off. The Mustang Lithium isn't even powered by a raucous internal combustion engine; instead it gets its motivation from a 900 horsepower Phi-Power dual-core electric motor placed under the hood complete with dual power inverters. That engine is backed by an 800-volt Webasto battery system, matching the voltage of Porsche's new Taycan electric performance... Read more...
Ford isn’t a stranger to electric vehicles; after all, the company did make available an electric version of its Focus compact hatchback. However, the company hasn’t been as aggressive with its electrification efforts aside for some hybrids here and there. That will change, however, with an all-new electric crossover that will finally see the light of day next month. Ford first teased the vehicle last year with a sketch of its rear-end. As evidenced by that single image, we could see the clear Mustang inspiration in the taillights. Today, Ford is giving us a another look at the vehicle in profile – again in sketch form. The Mustang influence is once again very noticeable... Read more...
Back in January, Ford officially pulled the wraps off the ultimate Mustang: the 2020 Mustang Shelby GT500. At the time, Ford wasn't specific about the output of the 5.2-liter supercharged V8 engine, although it said that it would crank out in excess of 700 horsepower. Today, Ford confirmed the official figures for the engine, and they're absolutely breathtaking. Ford says that the 5.2-liter pumps out 760 horsepower and 625 lb-ft of torque. That makes it the most powerful production Mustang… EVER. The horsepower figure puts it well ahead of contemporary counterparts like the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat. Both competitors, however, edge the Shelby on... Read more...
When most people think about the Ford Mustang, they imagine a rear-wheel drive beast powered by a thumping V8 engine. However, in recent years Ford has reintroduced a turbocharged four-cylinder to the lineup and it is by no means a slouch in the performance arena. Today, Ford has introduced the new 2.3L High Performance Package for the four-banger Mustang. This new package adds an additional 20 horsepower to the already stout 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine, bringing its total to 330 horsepower. Torque remains unchanged at 350 lb-ft. To put that in perspective, the 2010 Mustang GT with its 4.6-liter V8 engine produced 315 horsepower and 325 lb-ft of torque. In addition to the enhancements... Read more...
Ask a few muscle car guys what car they would go back in time and buy if they could, and a handful of them would say the classic, and incredibly valuable, Ford Boss 429 Mustang from 1969. While you can't go back in time and get a brand-new original Boss 429, you can purchase one of the Ford approved continuation 1969 Boss 429 Mustangs from Classic Recreations. The company landed the rights to build these official continuation cars from Ford earlier this year. The car has officially debuted at SEMA 2018 and it looks almost exactly like the original car from 1969, with a few modern twists. The car starts with an original 1969 Mustang body that is restored to factory new condition before being tweaked... Read more...
Electric vehicles are growing in popularity, and it certainly helps that some of the newest designs carry the same aggressive looks and performance (at times) as their gas guzzling brethren. Some EVs are even ultra-sporty. That seems to be what Ford is after with an all-electric vehicle in the making, one that takes its inspiration from the company's iconic Mustang. Ford teased the upcoming EV by releasing a sketch of the rear end, and boy is it a beauty. In fact, it would be easy to mistake the sketch, as shown above, for a Mustang. That is precisely the point—Darren Palmer, product development director of Ford's Team Edison division, stated in no uncertain terms that the all-new, fully-electric... Read more...
The gang over at Roush has been taking the already potent Mustang GT and hopping it up for more performance and style for a long time. Roush has offered Mustangs in what it calls "Stages" referring to if they are all show and no go (Stage 1) or if they pack lots of additional "go" in the form of a supercharger under the hood. Roush blowers don’t always make the most power out of all Mustang superchargers available on the market, but the big thing is when properly installed by a professional,  they often allow you to keep your warranty intact. Roush has announced that the 2019 Roush Stage 3 (RS3) Mustang is up for pre-order. The RS3 can be pre-ordered starting September 1,... Read more...
Ford just unveiled the 50th anniversary edition of its factory build drag car called the Mustang Cobra Jet. This utterly not street legal Mustang is is hailed as the hottest, fastest, and most powerful drag racing Mustang ever. The very first Cobra Jet Mustang rolled off the assembly line back in 1968 and this special 50th anniversary edition will debut at the 2018 Woodward Dream Cruise this weekend. Power for this mid-eight second, 150mph pony car comes from a special Ford 5.2L V8 based on the Ford 5.0L V8 engine used in street Mustangs. The bulk of the power from that giant engine comes thanks to a 3.0L Whipple supercharger. To handle all the power that blown V8 makes, Ford fits the drag... Read more...
The guys over at Hennessey Performance have kicked off the celebration of their 10,000th vehicle being produced. That 10,000 number includes the awesome Venom GT supercar we showed you not long ago, but this new commemorative vehicle comes in the form of a very slick 2019 Hennessey Heritage Edition Mustang. The car sports a very cool livery that was inspired by the 2018 Ford GT Heritage Edition that is red and white, with some cool striping and a number badge on the doors. The heart of this car is a Ford 5.0L V8 engine that can be backed by a choice of factory Ford transmission, including the 10-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual. The engine gets a giant 3.0L supercharger... Read more...
Siemens really thought that when it brought its sweet looking classic 1965 Mustang to the Goodwood Hill Climb that it would fly up the hill and do autonomous cars proud. It ended up driving up the hill in spectacularly poor fashion. At least the Mustang looked good sitting on the starting line. The autonomous Mustang had very little in the way of autonomous tech compared to the cars we are used to seeing in testing with giant masses of cameras and sensors on the roof and other locations. The Mustang uses GPS and what appears to be a single camera to determine where it was on the road. Whoever thought this was going to be a good demonstration probably got a stern talking to after the event. You... Read more...
Ford has just previewed a number of new vehicles that will be joining its family in the coming years. The auto giant announced that 75 percent of its current lineup will be replaced by 2020 and that it will be adding four new trucks and SUVs as well. The most high-profile of these launches will no doubt be the resurrected Bronco (pictured above). The Bronco was announced for production in early 2017 alongside the all-new Ranger. The Ranger has already been revealed in production form and will soon be hitting dealer lots. At the time, it was expected that the Bronco would simply be a rebadged Everest SUV (which Ford sells in other global markets), but the teaser image below clearly shows that... Read more...
Ford has announced that the legendary California Special package will return for the 2019 Mustang pony car. Ford is packing some very cool tech into the 2019 California Special with a 6-speed manual transmission that features rev-matching technology. Ford says that rev-match tech will "ensure smoother and more spirited day-to-day-driving." Ford will also give California Special buyers the chance to own the first-ever custom-tuned B&O Play premium audio system for the Mustang. The California Special will have new vintage-inspired colors and over-the-top stripes. "No doubt, 2019 is an exciting year for Mustang enthusiasts, especially fans of our California Special and Bullitt models," said... Read more...
Ford has gone official with a new special edition pony car called the 2019 Mustang Bullitt. One look at the car in its Dark Highland Green paint and anyone who knows Steve McQueen movies will be taken right back to that iconic chase scene from Bullitt. This certainly isn't the first time that Ford has made a Bullitt Mustang; there have been special edition versions of this car before. However, the 2019 version has much more power than those previous editions. Ford fits the 2019 Bullitt with a new open-air induction system and a Shelby GT350 intake manifold with 87mm throttle bodies and a special powertrain control module calibration for more power. Those features help give the 5.0L V8 under... Read more...
It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that trucks are a big business here in the United States. The Ford F-Series has been the best-selling vehicle in the country for the past 30 years, and the top three selling vehicles for 2017 were full-size pickup trucks (the Chevrolet Silverado and Ram pickups took second and third place). Needless to say, Americans can't get enough of trucks, and Ford is looking to fatten its coffers with a new entry. Or perhaps we should say that Ford is resurrecting a beloved nameplate that earlier this decade: Ranger. This new U.S. market 2019 Ford Ranger is largely a "massaged" version of the truck that has been available in the rest of the world for the... Read more...
