2019 Ford Mustang Bullitt Returns With 475 Horsepower 5.0-liter V8
Ford has gone official with a new special edition pony car called the 2019 Mustang Bullitt. One look at the car in its Dark Highland Green paint and anyone who knows Steve McQueen movies will be taken right back to that iconic chase scene from Bullitt. This certainly isn't the first time that Ford has made a Bullitt Mustang; there have been special edition versions of this car before. However, the 2019 version has much more power than those previous editions.
Ford fits the 2019 Bullitt with a new open-air induction system and a Shelby GT350 intake manifold with 87mm throttle bodies and a special powertrain control module calibration for more power. Those features help give the 5.0L V8 under the hood "at least" 475 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. Only a few years ago you would need a supercharger to hit that sort of power output with a Mustang.
Ford says the car is good for 163mph on the top end, and if you get moving that fast, the Brembo brakes will slow the car down. Ford also fits the car as standard with a heated leather steering wheel and 12-inch all digital instrument cluster with a unique Bullitt welcome screen. That screen shows an image of the car rather than the pony seen in normal GTs.
"This new Bullitt is, as Steve McQueen was, effortlessly cool," said Darrell Behmer, Mustang chief designer. "As a designer, it’s my favorite Mustang – devoid of stripes, spoilers and badges. It doesn’t need to scream about anything – it’s just cool."
The car can be had in Shadow Black if the dark green doesn't tickle your fancy and both will have chrome accents around the grille and front windows as a tribute to the movie car. The wheels are 19-inch torque thrust units and the grille is black on both body color choices. The only badging on the car is the Bullitt logo faux gas cap on the rear.
Inside the car has leather trimmed interior with green accent stitching on the dash, door panels, center console, and seats. Buyers have only three options to choose with a Bullitt electronics package with nav, memory seat or driver and mirrors, upgraded sound system, Blind Sport information system with Cross-Traffic Alert. MagneRide semi-active suspension is optional and RECARO black leather seats are optional. Pricing is unannounced, the car will land at dealers this summer. The 2019 Bullitt debuted in Detroit along with the all-new Ford Ranger truck.
"When making a Bullitt, there are certain things it absolutely must have," said Carl Widmann, Mustang chief engineer. "It has to have the right attitude, it has to be unique in some way from a Mustang GT, and more than anything, it has to be bad ass."
