The Mustang Lithium isn't even powered by a raucous internal combustion engine; instead it gets its motivation from a 900 horsepower Phi-Power dual-core electric motor placed under the hood complete with dual power inverters. That engine is backed by an 800-volt Webasto battery system, matching the voltage of Porsche's new Taycan electric performance sedan.
Power is sent to the rear wheel (of course) through a 6-speed manual transmission. Yes, you heard that correctly. This electric car is hooked up to a Getrag MT82 (Calimer) 6-speed transmission that has been fortified internals to handle the tremendous 1,000 ft-lbs of torque. Most electric cars come with a single-speed transmission, while the Taycan bucks the trend with a two-speed automatic transmission. But the peculiarity of 6 speeds and it being a manual are definitely an interesting choice for the Mustang Lithium. We'd definitely like to see this thing in action, but alas, Ford hasn't provided any footage of the vehicle in motion.
Rounding out the package is a Super 8.8 Torsen differential, lightweight Forgeline wheels, Michelin Pilot Sports 4S tires, Ford Performance Track Handling Pack, and Brembo six-piston brakes for the front axle.
Ford hasn't given any details on the battery pack's capacity or driving range; and the company also hasn't doled the all-important performance figures (i.e. 0-60, 1/4-mile, top speed). And given that this is a one-off machine, there is no price attached to the product.
With that being said, the idea of a production electric Mustang isn't too far-fetched. In fact, Ford is just weeks away from announcing a Mustang-inspired crossover electric vehicle that is rumored to be called the Mach-E.
