Apple has been involved in a few controversies over the past six months, most recently with butterfly keyboard failures on the MacBook Pro. However, prior to that, the company came under fire for the peculiar display notch on the iPhone X and performance throttling due to “well-seasoned” batteries on older iPhones. Samsung has of course been taking notice of what’s going on in the world of iPhones and has followed up with a new commercial that trolls Apple. The commercial follows the travails of a woman as she navigates through a busy airport, only to be literally slowed... Read more...
Samsung is known to shake things up with special color options for its high-end smartphones, sometimes offering them exclusively through Best Buy. To keep the trend going, Samsung is rolling out Sunrise Gold and Burgundy Red versions of its Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. There's good news and bad news there, though. The good news is both color options look snazzy, but the bad news is neither one will be available in the United States right off the bat. At least initially, the Burgundy Red edition will only be available in Korea and China starting sometime this month. Samsung will then launch the Sunrise... Read more...
Do you think you have a strong eye for photography? OnePlus aims to put that to the test as part of a clever (and fun) marketing strategy to promote the upcoming launch of its next flagship phone, the OnePlus 6. The company has assembled a collection of photographs taken with the OnePlus 6, iPhone X, Samsung Galaxy S9, and Pixel 2, and is asking users to vote on the best one in each category. What makes the challenge so interesting is that the photos are not labeled—there is no indication of which photo was taken with which phone. There is no identifying information in the metadata either,... Read more...
If you're a Verizon Wireless customer looking to purchase a Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9+ in the near future, we've got some bad news for you. America's largest wireless carrier has just signed deal with Samsung that will see Verizon’s Oath subsidiary install bloatware across devices that are Bixby-enabled.  We don't know of many (or rather, any) people that enjoy having their mobile devices preloaded with unnecessary apps, but Verizon sees this as another way to drive revenue from customers that are increasingly turning away from traditional ways to view content. In this case,... Read more...
If 64GB of internal storage isn't enough for you (even though the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus offer micoSDXC slots for expansion), then Samsung has new storage options for you to choose from on its flagship Android Oreo smartphones. The company just announced that it will begin selling both 128GB and 256GB variants of the Galaxy S9 and S9+ starting on May 1st. The standard Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ with 64GB of internal storage cost $719.99 and $839.99 respectively direct from Samsung. Opting for the 128GB variant will up those prices to $769.99 and $889.99 respectively. The range-topping 256GB SKU will... Read more...
Samsung, don't give in!! We've seen a number of manufacturers embrace the "display notch" when it comes to the 2018 refresh of flagship smartphones. Up until this point, Samsung has stayed the course, delivering the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+with traditional Infinity Displays. However, a newly uncovered design patent shows that Samsung could be pulled to the Dark Side with future Galaxy smartphones. The images in the design patent show a device with minimal display bezels and a notched display at the top that houses the selfie camera, speaker and various other sensors. Out back, we... If you're looking for a swanky new accessory to increase the productivity of your new Galaxy S9 or Galaxy S9+, Samsung has announced that its DeX Pad will ship next month (May 13th). The DeX Pad in effect turns your relatively small Galaxy S9 into a near-desktop class computing machine. You will of course need to attach a monitor, keyboard and mouse to the DeX Pad to access the desktop mode, which still runs the Android interface. However, with the added real estate of a desktop monitor, you can enjoy big-screen gaming, movies and multitasking that you would otherwise need a PC to... Read more...
We have probably said it a million times by now, but Samsung's Super AMOLED displays are some of the best looking panels on mobile, bar none. The same is true of the company's newest flagship phones, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, though unfortunately the experience is being marred for some due to an unknown issue that is causing the parts of the touchscreen to be unresponsive. "Does anyone else have issues with the Galaxy S9 touchscreen? I've got a few dead spots on the bottom half of my screen. Getting a replacement phone shipped but do wonder if it is bad luck or a more common issue with the... Read more...
If you weren't among those that preordered Samsung's new Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ earlier this month, you can now walk into a brick and mortar retail store or wireless carrier to purchase the smartphones. Today is the official launch day and as we showed you in our review, the Galaxy S9+ is a fantastic flagship Android smartphone. While the Galaxy S9 is impressive in its own right, it's the Galaxy S9+ that will garner much of the attention (and will be Android smartphone to beat) for the next year. It features a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED Infinity Display along with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 processor... Read more...
Nobody is perfect, and sometimes accidents happen. This is especially true with smartphones, which are seemingly held in front of our faces 24-7-365. With that constant usage comes a continual threat of doing some serious damage to your smartphone from dropping or it to encountering some other day-ruining calamity. Samsung is looking to come to the rescue for Galaxy smartphone owners in need of assistance by offering same-day repair service in the United States. To pull this off, Samsung is partnering with over 300 uBreakiFix locations across the U.S. that are Samsung Care authorized (there will... Read more...
Mobile device makers have made a concerted effort to improve camera performance on each new generation of smartphone. While there is still a gap between a handset and a Digital SLR (DSLR), today's phones are capable of taking excellent photos. It's become a point of focus, and with the advances in imaging, like Bokeh effects, armchair photographers can snap some truly remarkable looking shots. Two recent flagships, Samsung's Galaxy S9+ and Google's Pixel 2 XL, both have been praised for their photo taking capabilities. Is one appreciably better than the other? The only way to find out is through... Read more...
Lots of smartphone owners have opted to stick with their existing smartphone rather than buy the new breed of insanely expensive flagships such as the iPhone X. Sales for the iPhone X have reportedly been so slow that Apple reportedly slashed production in half for the first part of 2018. Word has now surfaced that Apple's main competitor, Samsung, is also feeling the heat when it comes to soft demand for its new flagship Galaxy S9 device that was announced at MWC 2018. Analyst Jeff Johnson from Arthur Wood Research has cited sources in the supply chain who claim that pre-orders for Samsung's Galaxy... Read more...
One of the biggest unveils at this year's Mobile World Congress was the new and highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, which we were lucky enough to get some hands-on preview time with for you here late last month. Samsung's Galaxy S9 series doesn't look a whole lot different than the previous generation Galaxy S8 and 8+ line. And though the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are ever so slightly smaller than their older siblings, with slightly thinner top and bottom bezels, these new Galaxy S devices have been upgraded and re-engineered in a number of ways with some impressive new features... As I sit here on a rainy weekend, putting Samsung’s new Galaxy S9+ flagship Android smartphone through its benchmark paces, I impressed with what I’m seeing performance-wise so far. However, working and living with the phone for the past week has brought to my attention true standout features and functionality that the mainstream user will immediately appreciate, and it starts with the camera array that Samsung built for what is shaping up to be a highly-refined beast of smartphone. In our preview look at the Galaxy S9 and S9+ we gave a high-level overview of the devices and the wealth... Read more...
