Samsung is gearing up to launch its Galaxy S9 handset, we already know that. But what we don't know are the specs, or any standout features that Samsung's next flagship phone might bring to the table, at least not officially. Unofficially, however, a photo showing what is supposedly the retail packaging for the Galaxy S9 has leaked out, with legible text outlining a few interesting tidbits. The leaked photo indicates that Samsung is going with a 5.8-inch QHD+ Super AMOLED display on the Galaxy S9. It also makes note of the phone having 4GB of system memory and 64GB of built-in storage (there will likely be different SKUs, as always), supporting wireless charging, and coming with a set of earphones... Samsung already told us that the Galaxy S9 family would not be ready in time for a CES 2018 reveal, so speculation pointed to the next potential high-profile electronics show: Mobile World Congress 2018 (MWC 2018). That speculation has now been validated, with Samsung mobile chief DJ Koh confirming that the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ will make their first appearance next month in Barcelona, Spain. The February unveil is a month earlier than the fireworks for last year's Galaxy S8 family, which were announced at a separate Samsung Unpacked event in New York City. Given the February reveal at MWC 2018, we fully expect to see the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ on store shelves in March. When it comes to... Read more...
Samsung is not too far away from its big debut of the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ flagship smartphones, which are tipped to make their big debut at MWC 2018. We already know about one of the processors that will go into the U.S. version of the Galaxy S9 family: the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845. Today, however, Samsung is spilling the beans on its Exynos 9810 processor that will find its way into the international versions of the smartphones. Samsung says that its new 8-core SoC has four third-generation custom high-performance cores operating at a heady 2.9GHz. For less demanding tasks, there are four efficiency cores onboard. According to the chip giant, single-core performance has been doubled, while... Read more...
Do you need any further proof that Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ flagships are right around the corner? Well, both smartphones recently made a visit to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) with SM-G960F and SM-G965F designations for the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ respectively. We should note that this early appearance at the FCC by Samsung's latest flagships is unprecedented. Droid-Life notes that the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note received their certifications in March 2017 and July 2017 respectively, and went on sale in April and August respectively in the United States. The Galaxy S7, which received its FCC certification in February 2016 went on sale a month later. What about... Read more...
If you are a Samsung fan and are looking forward to more details on the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus that are expected early next year, a new leak has given up some additional information on the devices. According to this leak, the Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus smartphones will continue to have a 3.5mm headphone port integrated. The details were tipped in a leaked image seen here that claims to show a 3.5mm port on a module for the smartphones. The headphone port can be seen on the bottom right portion of the module. This is good news for audio fans with headphones they love who don’t want to have to use an adapter of some sort to connect to their smartphones. Rumors have also predicted that the S9 device... Are today's flagship smartphones fast enough? Have we reached the point of diminishing returns on processor upgrades? Who cares! As geeks and power users, one of the things we look forward to most with each new flagship phone launch is the performance bump that comes with it. That will again be the case when Samsung launches its Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, as evidenced by some early benchmarks that popped up in Geekbench's database. Listed as "Samsung SM-G965UI," the new entry points to a Galaxy S9+ handset with an 8-core Qualcomm processor, presumably the Snapdragon 845 that we already know will be used in Samsung's next batch of Galaxy handsets, at least in the United. In the overseas model,... Read more...
The Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are likely to be among the best-selling smartphones of 2018, and there is no doubt excitement surrounding their upcoming release. Samsung upped the ante with Infinity Displays on its 2017 Galaxy S8/S8+ flagship smartphones, and we're expecting a further refinement of that design with the 2018 successors. Bloomberg's well-placed sources are indicating that the Galaxy S9 will make its first official appearance in late February, with a global launch taking place in March. This is a more accelerated timetable than we're used to when it comes to Samsung's flagship smartphones. If you recall, the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+ were first unveiled on March 29th, 2017 and... Things are about to get a little crazy in the tech industry. That's because the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas is right around the corner. Manufacturers will be eager to show off their new and upcoming products. Unfortunately, it does not look like Samsung will unveiling its next flagship phones, the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, as was previously rumored. Instead, the company is more likely to wait until Mobile World Congress (MWC) in February. We can't say we are surprised, if Samsung chooses to go that route. CES is not typically a launchpad for smartphones, and is instead more focused on computers, gadgets, and gizmos. Sometimes there is an unofficial encompassing theme—one... Read more...
Leaks have been tipping Samsung's hand when it comes to what the company will be showing off at CES 2018 set to kick off early early January. Previously we heard that the folding screen Galaxy X smartphone would be on display at the show. However, a new rumor is making the rounds that suggests Samsung's next Galaxy flagships, the Galaxy S9 and S9+, will also be seen for the first time at CES 2018. A reveal at CES is uncommon for new high-end smartphones, but it seems Samsung may want to unveil its wares at a show that isn’t festooned with other smartphones to steal its thunder. CES is traditionally more about gadgets and computers than smartphones. One thing that is unclear is if Samsung... Read more...
The Samsung Galaxy S9 rumors are coming in at a furious pace, and we've recently seen alleged benchmarks for the upcoming smartphone and reports that it a Galaxy S9 Mini will join the family. Now, we're getting a good glimpse at what that Galaxy S9 could look thanks to renders for a third-party case that is destined for the smartphone. The renders, which were obtained by BGR, show a rugged GHOSTEK case that wraps around the Galaxy S9. While it's hard to get a look at the overall shape of the smartphone, we can clearly see from the front that it retains the curved display sides from its Galaxy S8 predecessor. However, the big changes appear out back where we can see dual cameras stacked vertically.... Read more...
The rumors have started in earnest about the next flagship smartphone from Samsung, which is expected to be called the Galaxy S9. Like Galaxy devices that came before it, the S9 is expected to come in a standard and plus sizes. A results page from Geekbench has surfaced that claims to show the results for the Galaxy S9 Plus version of the smartphone. The results page (seen below) calls out a score of 1191 for single-core and 3835 for multi-core. The model number is Samsung SM-G965F and the listing calls out a motherboard dubbed universal9810. That is presumed to be the new Exynos 9810 SoC that Samsung launched about a week ago. A previous leaked suggested that the U.S. and Chinese version... Read more...
When it comes to today's smartphones, it seems as though bigger is better in the eyes of consumers. The original iPhone shipped with a 3.5-inch display, but the current iPhone X ships with a 5.8-inch display. Likewise, Samsung is currently selling the Galaxy S8+ and Galaxy Note 8 which have 6.2- and 6.3-inch displays respectively. According to a new report out of South Korea, Samsung may be looking to go in the opposite direction with a Galaxy S9 Mini. This would be a premium device in the same mold as the expected Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, but with a 4-inch-class display. The Galaxy S9 Mini would retain the design hallmarks of the Galaxy family including the curved display edges and minimal... Read more...
Alleged CAD drawings of the Samsung Galaxy S9 smartphone have leaked online and the smartphone looks very much like the existing Galaxy S8. We see the same curved edges on the screen out front but with thinner bezels. The back does show a revised layout for the camera and fingerprint scanner. On the current Galaxy S8 models, the camera is a single-lens unit and the fingerprint scanner is directly to the right of the camera -- a position that many don't care for at all. The S9 drawings, which are originally sourced from Weibo, show a dual camera layout on the back with those cameras stacked in the top center area. The fingerprint scanner is located below those lenses. You can guarantee that lower... Read more...
The smartphone world seemed poised to make a move away from fingerprint scanners that have their own space on the front of the smartphone (or on the back) to scanners that could be hidden away under the glass of the screen. Apple was one of the first to look at this back in October of 2016 when a patent showing plans for an under glass fingerprint scanner first surfaced. The catch was that Apple ultimately decided to leapfrog fingerprint recognition in favor of facial recognition. Word is that Samsung has ditched its plans to put the fingerprint scanner under the screen glass in the upcoming Galaxy S9 smartphone after failing to achieve a production-worthy solution. Samsung will now, reportedly,... Read more...
The Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ have only been out the for just a few months, but talk is already heating up with regards to its successor. In this case, we’re talking about the Galaxy S9. A new report suggests that the Galaxy S9 will debut early next year with the same display sizes currently found on the Galaxy S8. That revelation isn’t too surprising given that the S8 was a rather thorough remake of the Galaxy design aesthetic with its bezel-free Infinity Display. Available in 5.8- and 6.2-inch sizes, the Infinity Display is incredibly dense, with a resolution of 2960x1440, and is generally regarded as one of the best screens in the mobile business. Where Samsung will change things up... Read more...
The dust has barely settled following the launch of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835-based Samsung Galaxy S8 and Galaxy S8+, but there’s already talk of the chip’s successor. For those that need a refresher, the Snapdragon 835 was designed by Qualcomm and is built by Samsung on a 10-nanometer manufacturing process. The upcoming Snapdragon 845, however, is reportedly already in development according to a report from The Investor. Once again, Samsung and Qualcomm are doing the heavy lifting when it comes to designing the next generation smartphone processor, although the report indicates that either Samsung or TSMC will be capable of producing the chip. The Snapdragon 845 will allegedly find a home... Read more...
Your unreleased Samsung Galaxy S8 is already so last season. Rumor has it that Samsung is already working on its next flagship phone, tentatively called the S9. The corporation has also supposedly increased production of the much anticipated Galaxy S8+. If Samsung is indeed working on the Galaxy S9, then the company is six months ahead of the previous year’s schedule. An anonymous source stated, “Since late last month, a display team for the S9 has started the development work with aims to supply samples from mid-April. About a month after the display, other key parts such as modules are expected to be developed in phases.” The source claims that Samsung is able to start on the S9 early, because... Read more...
