If you weren't among those that preordered Samsung's new Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ earlier this month, you can now walk into a brick and mortar retail store or wireless carrier to purchase the smartphones. Today is the official launch day and as we showed you in our review, the Galaxy S9+ is a fantastic flagship Android smartphone. While the Galaxy S9 is impressive in its own right, it's the Galaxy S9+ that will garner much of the attention (and will be Android smartphone to beat) for the next year. It features a 6.2-inch Super AMOLED Infinity Display along with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 845 processor and a generous 6GB of RAM (the Galaxy S9 only has 4GB).  Like the Galaxy Note8 that came before... Nobody is perfect, and sometimes accidents happen. This is especially true with smartphones, which are seemingly held in front of our faces 24-7-365. With that constant usage comes a continual threat of doing some serious damage to your smartphone from dropping or it to encountering some other day-ruining calamity. Samsung is looking to come to the rescue for Galaxy smartphone owners in need of assistance by offering same-day repair service in the United States. To pull this off, Samsung is partnering with over 300 uBreakiFix locations across the U.S. that are Samsung Care authorized (there will be an additional 200 locations opened by early 2019 according to the South Korean electronics giant).... Mobile device makers have made a concerted effort to improve camera performance on each new generation of smartphone. While there is still a gap between a handset and a Digital SLR (DSLR), today's phones are capable of taking excellent photos. It's become a point of focus, and with the advances in imaging, like Bokeh effects, armchair photographers can snap some truly remarkable looking shots. Two recent flagships, Samsung's Galaxy S9+ and Google's Pixel 2 XL, both have been praised for their photo taking capabilities. Is one appreciably better than the other? The only way to find out is through a good old fashioned shoot-out. Before we get to the picture comparisons, let's cover some specs.... Read more...
Lots of smartphone owners have opted to stick with their existing smartphone rather than buy the new breed of insanely expensive flagships such as the iPhone X. Sales for the iPhone X have reportedly been so slow that Apple reportedly slashed production in half for the first part of 2018. Word has now surfaced that Apple's main competitor, Samsung, is also feeling the heat when it comes to soft demand for its new flagship Galaxy S9 device that was announced at MWC 2018. Analyst Jeff Johnson from Arthur Wood Research has cited sources in the supply chain who claim that pre-orders for Samsung's Galaxy S9 smartphone are down 50% compared to the number of pre-orders for the Galaxy S8 launched last... One of the biggest unveils at this year's Mobile World Congress was the new and highly anticipated Samsung Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, which we were lucky enough to get some hands-on preview time with for you here late last month. Samsung's Galaxy S9 series doesn't look a whole lot different than the previous generation Galaxy S8 and 8+ line. And though the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+ are ever so slightly smaller than their older siblings, with slightly thinner top and bottom bezels, these new Galaxy S devices have been upgraded and re-engineered in a number of ways with some impressive new features and promised performance. Today marks the official embargo lift on full reviews of Samsung's new... Read more...
As I sit here on a rainy weekend, putting Samsung’s new Galaxy S9+ flagship Android smartphone through its benchmark paces, I impressed with what I’m seeing performance-wise so far. However, working and living with the phone for the past week has brought to my attention true standout features and functionality that the mainstream user will immediately appreciate, and it starts with the camera array that Samsung built for what is shaping up to be a highly-refined beast of smartphone. In our preview look at the Galaxy S9 and S9+ we gave a high-level overview of the devices and the wealth of new camera technology on board, from Samsung’s Dual Aperture lens to its multi-shot noise... It's to be expected; a next generation smartphone arrives and it blows its predecessor out of the water when it comes to features and specifications. Such was the case when the Samsung Galaxy S8 was released last year, and today, we're seeing the same with the Galaxy S9. DisplayMate had a chance to test out the Galaxy S9's Super AMOLED display, and it was deemed good enough to earn an "Excellent A+" grade. At first glance, one might assume that Samsung would simply hold the line and continue to use the same stellar Galaxy S8/S8+ Infinity Display panels on its latest flagships. However, Dr. Raymond Soneira, President of DisplayMate, says that Samsung has made improvements to both absolute picture... Read more...

We just can't escape the fact that flagship smartphones are getting even more expensive. Apple dropped jaws when the iPhone X debuted with a starting price of $999 last year, it appears that Samsung is fully prepared to follow closely in Cupertino's footsteps with the Galaxy S9 family. According to leaked pricing posted by incredibly reliable gadget leaker Evan Blass, the Galaxy S9 will have a base price of €841 in Europe, while the Galaxy S9+ will be priced at wallet busting €997. Those figures would put the smartphones at around $1,040 and $1,230 when straight converting to U.S. dollars. The Samsung Galaxy S9 is going to be an insanely fast smartphone, and doubly so if you don't live in the United States or China. The benchmarks come courtesy of Geekbench, and show that the Galaxy S9 with a Snapdragon 845 processor putting up single- and multi-core scores of 2455 and 8312 respectively. Samsung is planning to introduce a Desktop Experience (DeX) docking station would allow the company's upcoming Galaxy S9 smartphone to be used as a touchpad, or maybe even a virtual keyboard. Lest anyone doubt it, famed leaker Evan Blass (better known as @evleaks on Twitter) posted a couple of official-looking press renders of what he says is called the "DeX Pad," and boy is it a bit funky looking. In Samsung's defense, there may not be that many ways to design a dock like this without it looking a little weird. Blass acknowledges this very thing in a follow-up comment to his tweet. The so-called 'DeX Pad,' first reported here: https://t.co/DowGkJrKUA pic.twitter.com/5hDaR4g5CM — Evan Blass... Read more...

One of those reports comes from ETNews, a Korean-language website that says the Galaxy S9 will cost between 945,000 and 1,000,000 South Korean Won (KRW), versus 935,000 KRW for the Galaxy S8.
