You want to have a look at the non-overclockable versions of Intel's Alder Lake 12Th Gen Core desktop CPU lineup? Well, there they are, pictured plain as day right above this text. Have a gander, if you want. These pictures come to us by way of a post on Zhihu, which is a Chinese social media site that is sort of like someone stuck Twitter and Yahoo Answers in a blender. Poster DDAA117 slapped up these images along with a snarky remark mocking foreign (to China) Tech press and commenting that the chips are already "rotting in the street" over in China. These do appear to be legitimate photos of Intel's mainstream 12th-generation desktop processors, and assuming that they are legitimate, they're... Read more...
RPCS3 is the world's leading PlayStation 3 emulator software. It allows users to play their own rips of commercial PlayStation 3 games, and last month, the project announced that it is now able to boot every game title released for the PS3. Progress doesn't stop there, though, and there's much to be done. The open-source and grassroots nature of projects like game emulators can allow them to quickly pivot and support features that committee-laden commercial software may not want or be able to implement. Specifically, we're talking about support for new and esoteric instruction sets. RPCS3 was one of very few end-user applications to support Intel's TSX instructions, and the team took up the task... It's always fun to cheer for your team, isn't it? Sometimes it seems like folks love nothing more than to divide into opposing groups over the most arbitrary of boundaries and then battle to the figurative (or literal!) death over the difference. The Tech world is full of such holy wars, but few are as intense or as long-lived as "Apple fans vs. everyone else." That battle was once "PC vs. Mac", and before that, "Intel vs. Motorola." It died out somewhat while Apple was using Intel's processors in its own machines, but now that the fruity company has moved on to engineering its own processors, the holy war is on once again. This time, Apple is challenging Intel (and its eternal rival, AMD) head... Read more...
