Ever since playing Joust on his family's Atari 800XL 8-bit computer as a youth, Zak has been hooked on PC and console games. His passion for gaming as a kid led to an interest in PCs as a teenager, which ended up with him founding his own PC repair shop in the year 2000. Decades later, he's still building, still gaming, and still arguing on the internet with any opinion anyone has. A former writer of news and reviews for The Tech Report, Zak is a modern-day Renaissance man who may not be an expert on anything, but knows just a little about nearly everything.

Japan is a staunch ally of the United States and the two countries share many values. They don't agree on everything, though, and one of the most contentious areas between Japanese and American businesses is the matter of copyright. It may be hard to believe, but copyright law is much stricter in Japan than it is in... Read more...
When we first heard about Bartlett Lake early last year, the leaks spoke of a promise of a series of P-core-only processors for LGA 1700 desktop systems. In July, well-regarded leaker Jaykihn (@jaykihn0 on Xwitter) clarified that "BTL-S" is actually a whole series of processors comprising everything from dual-core... Read more...
Casual fans could be forgiven for being surprised at our headline. After all, some storied fighting game franchises have been featuring guest characters for decades, like Spawn in Mortal Kombat 11, or Darth Vader in Soul Calibur IV. Street Fighter has done many crossovers over the years, with Capcom's iconic... Read more...
PowerColor has been one of AMD's most dedicated AIB partners for decades. Your author fondly remembers rocking a PowerColor Radeon 9600 card, a lifetime ago. The company is known for its impressive factory overclocks and sometimes outlandish board designs, like the "Devil 13" family back in the day. Lately... Read more...

Let's talk about frame generation on integrated graphics for a moment. It's not an entirely novel concept; not only does AMD's FSR3 frame generation work on integrated graphics, but AMD has its driver-based AFMF 2 technology that has a dedicated mode for the integrated GPUs in its products. With the launch of its... Read more...

The United States' outgoing presidential administration's last major action may be to impose strong export restrictions on technology and accelerated systems for artificial intelligence processing. The Raspberry Pi series of economical single-board computers have many fans and not a lot of major faults, but people really enjoy using these machines for tasks far beyond their original design intentions, and that includes running AI processing on them. There's just one problem: even for inference, trained AI models... Read more...
Arguably the biggest announcement at CES 2025 was NVIDIA's debut of the GeForce RTX 50 series, led by the flagship GeForce RTX 5090. This card defies expectations in a lot of ways; even though the rest of the GeForce RTX 50 series is made up of largely incremental upgrades over the GeForce RTX 40 series—based on the specs, anyway—the GeForce Read more...
One of the most oft-repeated rumors regarding the Ryzen 9 9950X3D was that it would come with a double stack of 3D V-Cache. Not 128MB on a single CCD, as interesting as that would have been, but one slab of 64MB SRAM attached to each of the 8-core Zen 5 CCDs. This would have the advantage of minimizing scheduling... It's been a consistent refrain even before the "Arc" branding was announced: "Intel is going to exit the GPU market!" For whatever reason, there are certain people who really don't want Intel to be making GPUs, and anytime there is even the smallest hint of bad news for Intel GPUs, this old line comes up again. The... Read more...
