Panasonic System Solutions Company has created the so called “Walkthrough Iris Identification System,” which is a device that can scan a person’s iris while he/she walks through. As we may have already seen in the movies, iris identification is a highly advanced type of biometric authentication technology that does not use ID cards or passwords, which users could lose or forget. A drawback to biometric authentication technologies is that they are not always accurate. Nevertheless, at a verification failure rate of less than 1/1,200,000, the Walkthrough Iris Identification System is quite formidable. “To enable verification of a person walking (at 1 m per second) from a distance of more than... Having 512MB of onboard memory gives the card an extra kick in certain situations, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to be an all around winner in the benchmark tests. "A dual-slot NVIDIA graphics card with 512MB of DDR3 memory and an overclocked core that's running at 550MHz. Is this really a GeForce 7900 GT? Well, it still is, albeit Palit's special Sonic version of a GeForce 7900 GT. Read on as we find out if it's as fast as its name."  ... Read more...

The Register is claiming that Panasonic is preparing to launch one of the industry's first Blu-Ray players in June. The strange aspect of this launch however, is the fact that the player will not be able to play Blu-Ray movies out of the box as there is no bundled software to support this functionality. So essentially, everyone purchasing this player is really buying a very expensive Blu-Ray player that doesn't play movies. Apparently, those wanting to see Blu-Ray movies will have to wait to get their hands on a Playstation 3 to do so. Panasonic certainly isn't bundling any such code, curiously, even though it plans to include PowerDVD... Read more...

For the first 12 months, we expect 4 million to 5 million units to be sold beginning in May and across all platforms, including standalones, computers and gaming systems," said Reid Sullivan, vice president merchandising, Panasonic's entertainment group. Sullivan said Panasonic sees no need to develop a player to support both Blu-ray and the rival format known as HD DVD, despite a raging war between... Read more...
