Yes! Sonic Mania Coming To Nintendo Switch To Let You Get Your Retro Sega On
In you've managed to sleep in half of the day, you may have missed the massive news about Nintendo's Wii U successor, Switch. As we reported, the console is slated to launch on March 3rd for a slightly higher-than-expected price of $299. For that $300, you'll get a 720p 6.2-inch tablet, 1080p TV mode, and most important, one of the most interesting video game consoles ever released.
And... it just became even more interesting, with Sega's announcement that the beloved Sonic the Hedgehog is finally going to grace a Nintendo platform. If you're a Sonic fan, we don't want to spoil anything, so soak in this video first:
Interestingly, despite the Switch being Nintendo's highest-performance console to date, Sega's decided to deliver fans a hit of nostalgia with a 2D experience. Some might not be too keen on this creative decision, but for those who grew up playing Sonic titles on Sega's earliest consoles, there's a lot to be excited about.
Based on the video above, we can say that the game will play almost identically to the older Sonic the Hedgehog titles, but the game features all-new zones and even a new move called "Drop Dash", for getting rid of pesky barriers that get in your way.
At this point, we're not sure what Sonic Mania will be priced at, but we do know that it will be released this spring, and will not be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch, despite the fact that the trailer was posted to Nintendo's primary YouTube channel. When Sonic Mania drops, you'll be able to snap it up regardless of whether you have a PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One.
