The little creature you see here is a brushtail possum, and her golden fur color is adorable and makes her look a lot like Pikachu. In fact, the possum is actually named Pikachu because of her resemblance to the Pokemon character. The problem for Pikachu is that her golden color, caused by a genetic mutation, makes her a target for predators. It's rare that brushtail possums with the golden fur mutation live long in the wild. Pikachu was discovered lying on the ground by an unnamed person and was taken to Boronia Veterinary Clinic in Melbourne, Australia earlier this month. The creature is said to be somewhat anxious and is thought to have fallen off its mothers back; Pikachu is believed... Read more...
Three strikes and you’re Meowth! Niantic has just released a new three-strike discipline policy for their poplar game Pokémon Go. The policy is intended to crack down on the many creative ways of cheating in the game. Niantic defines cheating as downloading and using “modified or unofficial software”, playing with multiple accounts, sharing accounts, selling or trading accounts, and/or using tools that lie about your current location. The developer recognizes that its definition will likely need to change since “methods of cheating, unfortunately, are limited only by cheaters’ imaginations.” Players can also receive disciplinary action for harassing... To say that the hype surrounding Pokémon Go has subsided since last summer would be an understatement, as it's rare nowadays to hear something all that buzz-worthy about the game. But despite that, the game still has an enormous amount of fans, proven by the fact that 20,000 people in Chicago took part in the inaugural Pokémon GO Fest to catch the rarest and newest Pokémon with fellow gamers. The idea is ambitious, especially for a game that requires robust access to internet data connection. Unfortunately, it was that overwhelming requirement that ultimately left Niantic's festival efforts in shambles for this first Pokémon GO Fest. The venue and activities effectively collapsed due to... Read more...
Rumors about the Nintendo NX have been floating around for over a year. Pokémon Company head Tsunekazu Ishihara just revealed a little more about the mysterious device. He remarked, “The NX is trying to change the concept of what it means to be a home console device or a handheld device. We will make games for the NX.” Based on Ishihara’s comment, the NX is likely to be a hybrid home and handheld console. This hypothesis would match a comment made by an anonymous source to Eurogamer. It would also match a leak that stated that the NX will have detachable controllers with motion controls. Ishihara’s comment also confirms that there will be Pokémon games for the NX. Game Freak, the developer of... Read more...
With Nintendo's latest game - a mobile one, at that - the company has proven that there is still a lot of innovating to do in the market. While Pokemon GO is based on another title, Ingress, any game is going to have a greater chance of success when it features one of the most popular franchises ever. GO isn't just some regular Pokemon game: it's making the masses realize that augmented reality can be really cool. What's not cool, though, is that popular mobile apps are a hot target for malware. And since Pokemon GO hasn't been released worldwide yet, many have taken to the scarier parts of the Web to score an APK that will allow them to play it right now. As you might imagine, that's bound to... Read more...
One of the most storied characters ever will soon be coming to one of the most storied mobile platforms ever. And then, coming to another one. Reportedly, Nintendo is gunning to bring Pokemon where it has never been before: iOS and Android. That's right, the two biggest smartphone platforms in the U.S. will soon host the cartoon character that no one can ever get out of their head. According to MobileCrunch, Pokemon Say Tap will have a selection of famed monsters, being part card-game and part rhythm-game. Also, there's no news yet on whether the title will ever venture outside of Japan, but we're sure those with jailbroken devices will devise a way to make the shift. Talk about reigniting an...
