Between exclusive games, varying specs, or more features, choosing a new console to last a few years until the next iteration can be daunting, to say the least. Thus, let us go ahead and lay everything out to make your decision-making process easier this holiday season. Nintendo and Microsoft are looking to hype up the angry rift that has grown between console gamers and Sony following its decision to ban Fortnite cross-play and cross-progression. Sony sees cross-play support as a threat to the PlayStation 4's domination of the current-generation console and former Sony Online chief John Smedley said the move "[is] all about money... simple as that". While Nintendo and Microsoft are embracing cross-platform play for Fortnite, the duo has now teamed up to highlight cross-platform play for yet another game, this time Minecraft. A new ad pokes at Sony for blocking PS4 owners from playing against friends on other consoles. Today marks the day that Nintendo... Read more...
The PS4 is doing very well for Sony even though the standard console is a bit long in the tooth at this point. The console continues to sell robustly and analyst Lewis Ward, a researcher with IDC, says that the console will probably hit 100 million units sold in 2019. That would mean between 2018 and 2019, the console would need to sell another 30 million units. PS4 sales of an additional 30 million sounds quite reasonable. As of early December 2017, the PS4 has moved 70 million units since its global launch in late 2013. The new PS4 Pro is certainly going to be instrumental in helping to push the console to 100 million units. That Pro version is a stopgap measure to give 4K TV owners and... Read more...
Microsoft doesn’t need to tell us; we already know. Sony’s PlayStation 4 has a commanding lead over Xbox One in global console sales. While speaking at the 2015 GeekWire Summit, Xbox chief Phil Spencer was asked if the Xbox One could make a trick come-from-behind move to eventually overtake the PlayStation 4. Spencer’s response was about as humbling as you could expect. “You know, I don't know. You know, the length of the generation. They [Sony] have a huge lead and they have a good product.” As of November 2014, Microsoft had shipped 10 million Xbox One consoles — the company, interestingly enough, hasn’t given an official status update since the time. Perhaps we’ll hear something next month.... Read more...
U.S. officials have long blamed North Korea for the digital attack that embarrassed Sony and nearly derailed The Interview late last year. But the idea that a tiny dictatorship could effectively censor a major movie studio in the United States hasn’t been sitting well with many. As unlikely as a successful North Korean cyberattack sounds, U.S. officials are sticking to the story and a report by The New York Times explains why they’re so sure: the National Security Agency has infiltrated North Korea’s networks for years.  The NSA’s involvement might explain why President Obama was willing weigh in on the attack, which he was careful to characterize as “an act... The suits on Wall Street took notice of rumors that Electronic Arts had put a freeze on DICE from working on future projects such as Star Wars: Battlefront and a new Mirror's Edge title due to ongoing problems with Battlefield 4. EA shares dipped more than 8 percent as reports of halted production pranced through cyberspace. In a statement to Polygon, an EA spokesperson earlier this week acknowledged that there's much work to be done to fix Battlefield 4's persistent problems. "The team at DICE is working non-stop to update the game. Since Battlefield 4 China Rising expansion pack was already in the final states of development by the time issues began with Battlefield 4, we decided to fulfill... Read more...
