The mobile gaming industry can sometimes be a strange place. Gamers will put up with tactics to squeeze money out of them in the mobile gaming realm that would never fly on the PC or traditional game consoles. There would be an immense uproar if Bethesda launched a console game that required players to wait three hours for a chest to open. Yet, in the mobile game world, gamers accept such tricks, which are simply ways for the free-to-play games to generate money by charging players to open chests more quickly. Despite the annoyances with The Elder Scrolls: Blades, the game has proven to be popular with iOS gamers. A new report from Sensor Tower shows that Blades is the number one game on the... Bethesda has its arm pulled back and is about to throat punch Sony over cross-play. Sony is the lone roadblock standing in the way of gamers everywhere playing together no matter what system they are running. In a more recent announcement, Bethesda's Fallout 76 won't have cross-play thanks to Sony. Bethesda's other upcoming game is The Elder Scrolls: Legends and word is that the company has decided to not launch the game on systems that won’t support cross-play. It’s time to throw on your best hauberk and head to Tamriel. That’s right, The Elder Scrolls Online is taking names for a public Beta. Gamers who have been debating whether the online fantasy game will live up to the hype will finally have the chance to find out for themselves. What sets The Elder Scrolls Online apart from related Elder Scrolls game is that it’s an MMORPG, in the vein of World of Warcraft. Of course, The Elder Scrolls strives to be different than the MMORPGs already on the market, and it already has one clear structural difference: one server to rule them all. That’s right, all players will be playing in the same realm, which means that ZeniMax Studios... Read more...

The PS3 version contains the full game, as well as the mini expansions released by Bethesda. The Shivering Isles is expected to be released in the second quarter of 2007, and will contain about 30 hours of added gameplay, with new monsters, new quests, and a new land "that you can watch change according to your vital life-or-death decisions". We Can't wait! "etting the scene, it's explained that an ominous-looking gate has opened in Nibben Bay, the portal leading to a torn realm - the Shivering Isles - ruled by Sheogorath, the god of madness and dementia.... There is no question that Oblivion is definitely one of the best looking games of 2006 thus far and as you would expect, it seriously beats on even the fastest 3D Graphics cards from either NVIDIA or ATI.  We'll be incorporating it into our benchmarking suite here, as soon as we get a consistent repeatable method of testing it.  Until then, we'll have to "work" with it a bit more. Guru3D has obviously been putting in some quality time in the Oblivion worlds as well... "When deep in the woods it is extremely hard on all graphics hardware, while in a cave or mine, or fighting your way through an Oblivion gate you can expect more than double the frame rate. Similarly... Read more...
ATi has released a beta Cat 6.3 driver with the "Chuck" patch to allow High Dynamic Range Lighting (HDR) and Anti-Aliasing (AA) to be enabled in Oblivion at the same time. HDR with AA was only previously available on Xbox 360, and is now possible on the PC platform with ATi cards. Crossfire support was also added in this patch, with boosts up to 80% in performance. The lucky ATi owners can grab the patch here. It's called the "Chuck patch" in honor of our guy that found a way of enabling this functionality. Of course the reason why this is so important is Oblivion is one of the best looking games available in the market. Enabling High Dynamic Range and Anti Aliasing effects make this... Read more...
