Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has been lurking on the horizon for a while now. The developers behind the new CoD game, Treyarch, have added some new things into the mix, a fresh Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War trailer and new features for the multiplayer aspect of the game. In the action packed trailer, you get to see a bit of where you get to go in the new Call of Duty world as well as some of the things you can do.  Toward the end of the trailer, we get to see a glimpse of zombies, hinting at a zombies mode for this new game as well.  Without spending too much time on the trailer, though, let us dive into some of what the blog post said. As the Activision blog puts it,... Read more...
We're already a bit more than halfway through 2020, and expectations are that a new Call of Duty game will be announced this year. While no official announcement has been made so far, the game is reportedly called Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. The very first hints at some of the features in the game have surfaced thanks to a dataminer sifting through the code for a pre-beta build of a game called "The Red Door" that was posted to the Microsoft store last week. A dataminer going by Prototype Warehouse was able to download the files posted for "The Red Door" and has revealed some of the findings gleaned from the code. Those findings give a few details on the Call of Duty game's campaign, multiplayer,... Read more...
Call of Duty: Warzone players will be thrilled to hear that the highly anticipated Battle Royale Duos has arrived to the game. Players can now match up with a partner and drop into Verdansk using Battle Royale rules. Players can pair up with a friend or can be matched up with a random player. The goal of Duos is for the pair of operatives to outlast all of the other teams in the match. During the action, if one of a duo goes down, their partner can revive them before they bleed out and lose their loadout. Reviving them will prevent the downed player from being taken to the Gulag where they have to fight one on one to earn the right to return to the game. A downed Call of Duty Warzone... Read more...
It's been over a decade since the first installment in the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare franchise was launched, and its publisher Activision feels that now is the perfect time to reboot the series. This time around, Infinity Ward is at the helm developing the game and it will see players thrust into a modern-day conflict that has the potential to tip the scales with respect to the global geopolitical balance of power. Let's get this out of the way first: the new Modern Warfare goes back to the basics and brings back the single-player campaign that was removed from Black Ops 4. The game was built from the ground-up with an all-new game engine, and it brings native support for real-time ray-tracing... Read more...
This week’s San Diego Comic-Con was supposed to be a rather joyous occasion for the Sledgehammer Games. The dev studio has already revealed its involvement on the latest installment in the Call of Duty franchise, Call of Duty: WWII. However, Sledgehammer has been rather tight-lipped about the game's upcoming zombie mode. Unfortunately for Sledgehammer, the trailer for the zombie mode leaked to the interwebs over the weekend, just days ahead of when it was scheduled to be unveiled for fans. For the folks that have worked long and hard on the zombie mode, which is titled “Army of the Dead”, the leak has been a bit of a bummer, obviously - though a leak is sometimes the best hype. Glenn Schofield... Read more...
Sun Tzu in his work The Art of War claimed that a warrior should always know their enemy, however he probably did not anticipate anyone screaming at each other through a headset and a computer monitor. Regardless, Infinity Ward just released a a new trailer, in a similar vein, entitled “Know Your Enemy” for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.  Infinity Ward first announced the game in late March. They stated that Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare would examine space combat in a "full on sci-fi" setting in the "very far future". Previous Call of Duty games explored futuristic topics, in particular Black OPs 3 and Advanced Warfare, however this game promises to incorporate these themes to a... Read more...
Don't worry, it's not at all creepy that we know you've been playing a lot of Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare on your gaming platform of choice. We haven't been peeking in your window or anything like that, though we did spy some data from NPD Group, a popular consumer market research firm which just posted a bunch of game related statistics, including the top 10 highest selling retail games in the U.S. for 2014. CoD:AW took the top spot, though it wasn't the only CoD title to make the list. So did its predecessor Ghosts, the tenth main CoD game. Given the popularity of these titles (Ghosts raced to $1 billion in sales in just 24 hours when it was released in 2013), it's not surprising to see... Read more...
It's hard not to get excited about Activision's upcoming Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare title after watching the recently released trailer showing game footage from Microsoft's Xbox One console. The storyline, while not completely new, is certainly intriguing, and the voice acting headlined by Kevin Spacey is simply superb. Game play and graphics will ultimately dictate the overall fun factor, and with regards to those elements, Sledgehammer Games co-founder Michael Condrey says the title is built on a brand new game engine. The revelation is found in the June issue of Game Informer, which features CoD:AW as its cover story. In it, Condrey says the new game engine is focused on the PlayStation... Read more...
You have two options this weekend -- you can tackle that list of chores you've been meaning to get done, or you can fire up Steam and play Call of Duty: Ghosts for free. Yes, we said FREE! There is a hefty download required, but beyond that, you can hop in and enjoy the game and all the recently added features, such as Heavy Duty mode. If you end up a CoD convert, you can snag the game for half price. Ghosts is on sale through Steam for $30 instead of its normal $60 selling price. And if not, well, you can jump off the free ride whenever your want or enjoy the free weekend, after which Steam will lock things back up. While you're checking out games, be advised there's a Ubisoft sale taking place. ... Read more...
For months on end, the Xbox 360 outsold every other major game console on store shelves. But then, the next-generation war began, pitting the Xbox One against the PlayStation 4 and the WiiU. My, how the tables have turned. The NPD Group's latest research report shows that in January 2014, the PS4 outsold the Xbox One, and by a health 2-to-1 margin. A Sony spokesperson stated that demand has remained "incredibly strong" for the PS4 console, even after the holidays, making it the number one next-gen console to kick off 2014. Not surprisingly, he was quite proud to "nearly double" the sales of the nearest competitor. In terms of software sales, Call of Duty: Ghosts continues to rule, though interestingly,... Read more...
Let's face it, the Call of Duty franchise is practically a license to print money at this point. As if we need reminding of that, Activision sent out a press release today announcing that it sold more than $1 billion of Call of Duty: Ghosts into retail stores worldwide on the very first day of availability. Helping to reach that figure is that fact that Ghosts launched at 15,000 midnight openings around the globe. "Call of Duty is by far the largest console franchise of this generation," said Bobby Kotick, CEO of Activision Blizzard. "More people have played Call of Duty this year than ever before, logging four billion hours of gameplay. And in the last 12 months, Call of Duty: Black Ops II,... Read more...
At some point, the world is probably going to begin to suffer from a mental overload concerning Call of Duty titles. Even now, it's becoming fairly tough to keep track of them all across all of the various platforms. That said, it's still a premier franchise, and we doubt the wind will be taken out of the sails in the near future. For CoD loyalists who jump at the chance to see anything new, there's an official gameplay demo on YouTube that glorifies some of the new graphical elements found in Call of Duty: Black Ops II Apocalypse. This one represents Treyarch's fourth and final DLC map pack for Call of Duty: Black Ops II. Among other things, you'll find two all-new Multiplayer Maps, two re-imagined... Read more...
Gaming has changed a lot over the years, primarily due to our reliance on the cloud, broadband Internet connections, and the seemingly never-ending desire for more, more, more. Replay value has taken on an entirely new meaning, and for developers, they're able to squeeze more revenue out of existing titles on the shelf. Call of Duty needs no introduction, and those hooked on Black Ops II will find themselves hard-pressed to keep their credit card at bay due to a new DLC available today. Black Ops II Vengeance is now available to download for PlayStation 3 and PC, bringing four new Multiplayer Maps, including the return of a re-imagined Multiplayer classic, an all-new epic Zombies chapter and... Microsoft's Xbox One is shaping up to be one of the highlights of the holiday season, assuming they do indeed get the system ready to ship by then. But, of course, consoles are made only in part by the hardware. The other part is the software, and Microsoft has seemingly lined up a pretty outstanding array of partners to ensure a star-studded launch day later this year. One of those partners is Infinity Ward and Activision, responsible for producing the next in the famed Call of Duty series. Call of Duty: Ghosts was teased in official fashion today during the Xbox One keynote, showcasing the leap in graphical technology compared to what the team had to work with in Modern Warfare 3. The visuals... Read more...

You'll recall that in February security researchers found a way to break into encrypted hard drives by using a trick that relies on the fact that RAM dissipates its contents slower if cooled. The research paper, by Princeton, the Electronic Frontier Foundation, and Wind River Systems was titled "Lest We Remember: Cold Boot Attacks on Encryption Keys" (.PDF").  Over the weekend, timed to coincide with the Last HOPE hacker conference over the weekend in New York, the source code was published to the Web.Of course, this technique only works if the laptop hasn't already been turned off, which would have enabled the memory to fully dissipate.  This probably isn't the method most people on... For those waiting on the G45 series of products, especially those that will find their way into the Montevina notebook platforms, we have bad news: The rumor going around is that the HD decode offload is broken, and it’s allegedly not a driver issue. Here’s the rumor direct from the source:“The problem with G45 is in the video decoders. We saw early silicon at CeBIT, and they did not demo that aspect of the chipset.  We have now learned that the shipping step, A2, has bugged HD video decode hardware, and that just won't work on the initial release chips.  There will be another spin, think 2-3 months out, that fixes this.”While this is just a rumor, what it means is that the initial chipsets may... Everything gets automated eventually. At first, businesses strive for efficiency in workers, and then when the work becomes too boring and repetitive, they go all the way to having a machine of some sort do it. But that could never happen to writing software code, could it?  Charles Simonyi thinks it could, and his company Intentional Software is trying to do just that with its Domain Workbench. Simonyi's five-year-old startup, Intentional Software, is making software so smart that you can simply tell it what you want to do. Lay down a few basic parameters, and it will write its own code. No programming skills are necessary. "Experts [in other fields] can be much more innovative... Read more...
