E3 has kicked off and EA's press conference has gone down giving us an idea of what the publisher and its developers are working on. EA talked about some big games at the conference including a new Star Wars title, a sequel to Unravel, and a glimpse at the highly anticipated BioWare game Anthem that lands next February. We learned last week that Crackdown 3 for the Xbox had been delayed and is expected to launch in February as well. The rub with E3's conference for those hoping for something new is that all of the big games were already known. Perhaps the most anticipated game EA talked... Read more...
Electronic Arts has changed the release date for Anthem, the online shooter being developed by BioWare, pushing it back to early 2019 instead of fall 2018 as the company previously stated. Despite the new launch time frame, EA insists the game is not delayed. Instead, the publisher changed the date to make room for a new Battlefield game launch, which it anticipates happening in October. "It's not a delay," EA's finance chief Blake Jorgensen told The Wall Street Journal. "People are trying to create a story." pic.twitter.com/5aNQcxpiBo — Sarah E. If you're one of the millions of Mass Effect fans that were yearning at the chance to play some additional content, you're unfortunately in for a rude awakening. While it's almost traditional to see post-release content launched for Mass Effect games, it appears that Andromeda is going to break the cycle. We can already feel the angst in the air. It was clear from the get-go that despite the incredible hype leading up to its launch, Andromeda didn't live up to most expectations. In fact, the game's poor animations become the laughing stock of the entire Internet for the month following its... Read more...
The sad reality of gaming is that it is not uncommon for a title to ship with bugs. Some have a few crawling around while others are infested to the point where even the Orkin man would cringe. After plenty of hype and anticipation, Mass Effect: Andromeda fell somewhere in between, leaving many gamers feeling disgruntled with the state it shipped in. If you stopped playing because of it, you may want to give the game another shot. Bioware promised to fix a host of issues with its 1.05 patch, which is now available. More than just lip service, it seems the patch has done a lot of good for the game,... Read more...
After much hype and anticipation, Mass Effect: Andromeda launched to an eager crowd of gamers, only for many player to quickly become fed up with the game's various bugs. A glance at Metacritic shows a user score of just 4.8 based on more than 2,314 user ratings. The good news is Bioware has heard the grumbles and is currently readying a patch that will address many of the game's issues. Since launching two weeks ago, Bioware says it has been "poring over" comments and feedback related to the title in an attempt to see what players like about the game, and what they despise. Of course, the bugs... Read more...
Following years of anticipation, BioWare's latest epic, Mass Effect: Andromeda, has just launched. As with all Mass Effect games, Andromeda is ambitious, complex, and rewarding, so expect to sink dozens of hours into it at the very least. Andromeda marks a brand-new chapter for the Mass Effect series, with this game's story mostly disjointed from the previous entries in the series. That was to be expected, as the ending of Mass Effect 3 painted storytellers into a corner. If you haven't played the previous games, and are thus worried about diving into this one first, don't worry. This is a fresh... Read more...
With BioWare's Mass Effect: Andromeda set to launch in less than two months (March 21st, to be exact), we had a hunch that there would be an influx of trailers before then. As it happens, we were right! A couple of days ago, BioWare released a video that highlights the Pathfinder Team, which introduced the game's two playable characters, siblings Scott and Sarah Ryder: Today, the developer follows-up with its second cinematic trailer. It has no special name, but we're introduced to the game's antagonist, although it's a very quick introduction. There's absolutely no new gameplay shown off in this... Read more...
Do you need something to fill your time as you wait for Bioware to wrap up work on Mass Effect: Andromeda? You could revisit Mass Effect 2 or play through it for the first time. Either way, it will not cost you a dime as Electronic Arts is currently giving away the Standard Edition for free through its Origin digital distribution platform. All you need is an Origin account and you're golden.Mass Effect 2 is this month's "On the House" promotion in which EA gives away a new title monthly basis. Mass Effect fans will have to stay sharp and focused if they are to have any hope of surviving the brutal landscape in Bioware's upcoming Mass Effect: Andromeda game. Bioware recently posted a 4K trailer of the third-person shooter that shows off lots of actual gameplay footage, and there is plenty to look for, including a barrage of enemies that don't take kindly to the protagonist's presence. The game's producer, Michael Gamble, took to Twitter to encourage fans to dissect the nearly five-minute long trailer. "Pick it apart. The whole thing. There's TONS in there. :) Powers, weapons, locations.... Read more...
Fans of the Mass Effect franchise are going to have to wait just a little bit longer for the fourth title in BioWare's third-person sci-fi shooter, Mass Effect: Andromeda, which the developer confirmed has been delayed until "early 2017." In the meantime, BioWare promises another update at the EA Play conference on June 12. The delay isn't a total surprise. Electronic Arts CFO Blake Jorgensen hinted that things were slightly off schedule during a recent earnings call. He said at the time that Mass Effect: Andromeda would release in EA's fourth fiscal quarter, which works out to the first quarter... Read more...
Tomorrow, BioWare's long-awaited Dragon Age Inquisition will drop for the PS4, Xbox One, and PCs. To say I'm excited would be an understatement. I've long been a fan of the Dragon Age series, even if Dragon Age 2 failed to live up to its predecessor, and by all accounts Dragon Age Inquisition is going to be a fabulous game. A recent video from CVG compares the visuals in key scenes between the Xbox One, PS4 and PC versions and I'm happy to report that while the PC variant clearly looks the best in multiple areas (as it should), there's evidence of good, intelligent optimization for all platforms.... The holiday season for video games has had a rough time. With games such as Assassin’s Creed: Unity getting poor reviews and Halo: The Master Chief Collection suffering from matchmaking issues, it’s not shaping up very well. However, Dragon Age: Inquisition, which hasn’t been released yet, is turning that around with its positive scores from critics and their early reviews. The Guardian gave BioWare’s latest entry into the Dragon Age franchise 4 out of 5 stars with Ian Ford calling it a “truly monumental game” though the overall threat and villain “never... Read more...
When Star Wars: The Old Republic made news in September, it was for announcing that one of the mythos' most enduring antiheroes, the onetime Sith Lord Revan, would be making an appearance in the MMO. Now, a new bug could wipe some of that goodwill off the map. Modder and TOR enthusiast SWTorMiner has created a video that shows him fixing a simple visual bug (introduced in one of the recent game patches) to make a character's eyewear render properly. (I've artificially lightened the screen cap below so that it's easier to tell the difference.) Fixing a bit of character geometry might seem like a... Read more...
