Every year Sony celebrates its Days of Play event and brings a new limited-edition game console to the mix. Last year the limited edition console was a slick blue machine. Days of Play is back for 2019, and Sony has a limited-edition console again for gamers to lust after. This year the limited edition console is much more bland in appearance than the bright blue offering in 2018. Sony calls the 2019 PS4 Days of Play Limited Edition console Steel Black. It appears to be a satin finish gray-black console. It only comes in standard PS4 flavor, no PS4 Pro has been announced at this time. In addition to the special color, the console also has the PlayStation Shapes embossed in silver on top of the... Read more...
Sony has already talked several times about the PS5 game console and what it will give gamers when it launches. It has promised that the price will be appealing given the console's hardware, which sounds like a nice way of saying it will be expensive but powerful. We recently saw a glimpse at how much more powerful the PS5 will be than the current PS4 Pro with a video showing the load times for the same game compared between both consoles. At the same event where that load time video was recorded, Sony execs also talked about PS5 backward compatibility. Not only will the backward compatibility work for single-player PS4 games, but it will also work for multiplayer games. Sony went so far as to... Read more...
Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption II is one of the most anticipated launches of the year. The game is landing on console systems first, but a leak has tipped a PC launch date thanks to a developer posting to his LinkedIn profile that he was working on the PC version of the game. A gameplay trailer turned up in August showing us some of the fantastic graphics we will see in the game. Rockstar and Sony have announced that a special bundle with a PS4 Pro and Red Dead Redemption II will launch on October 26. If you are hoping for a special console along the lines of the translucent blue limited-edition model, you will be sad to hear the PS4 Pro in this bundle is the standard black 1TB version.... That would be a hard deal to take for most gamers, as the PS4 Pro normally sells for $399.99. If you have serious buyer's remorse over the PS4 Pro this is the best way for you to get the bulk of your money back we've seen so far. You do have to trade the PS4 Pro in towards an... Read more...
The PlayStation brand has meant big business for Sony over the past [nearly] 25 years, and during that time, we’ve seen the release of the PlayStation, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3 and the current PlayStation 4. Since its inception, Sony has sold a cumulative 500 million PlayStation consoles worldwide, and to commemorate the event, the company is launching a new special edition console for gamers. It’s called the 500 Million Limited Edition PS4 Pro, and the most eye-catching feature is perhaps its translucent blue shell (with bronze trim) and matching DualShock 4 wireless controller. This fetching finish allows you to see the PS4 Pro’s (and controller’s) innards, and there’s... Read more...

However, id Software is delivering an update to owners of the Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro that will unlock the full processing potential of the consoles. The patch will be available starting tomorrow and will enable 4K resolution support for both consoles, which will finally put the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro on even footing with what's possible on the PC platform. Bethesda says that the increase in image fidelity means that you will likely want to revisit the game in all its gory glory. "Every blast of the BFG, every demon glory kill and every chainsaw slice through... Read more...

We have less than a month to go before Microsoft releases its powerful Xbox One X console to retail. Priced at $500 in the United States, the Xbox One X is an upgraded version of the Xbox One that is built to tackle 'true' 4K resolution gaming at 60 frames per second. The added graphics and processing muscle will also benefit users who do not own a 4K-capable television. That said, Microsoft's Phil Spencer admits that similar to the Xbox One Elite controller, the Xbox One X is "not for everybody." "Whether you're on a 1080p TV or a 4K TV, you're going to have a great experience. But it's not everybody," Spencer told GameSpot at the Brazil Game Show. "It's like when we built the Xbox One Elite... Read more...
We often see in sports mutual respect by the world's top athletes, even ones that are bitter rivals. Case in point, Larry Bird and Magic Johnson fought tooth and nail on the basketball court for many years, but each respected the other's game, and they eventually became friends. In a similar vein, Albert Penello, Microsoft's head of marketing, said Sony deserves "a lot of credit" for what the company did in putting together the PlayStation 4 Pro. Microsoft is getting ready to release the world's most powerful game console, the Xbox One X. The company's aim is to enable 4K resolution gameplay at 60 frames per second. Sony's PS4 Pro is a direct competitor to the Xbox One X, which came out nearly... Read more...
The last time that Sony issued a major update for the PlayStation 4 game console was when update 4.5 landed back in March. That system update added Boost Mode to the PlayStation 4 Pro among other things. Firmware Update 5.0 is incoming, and it empowers PS4 Pro gamers with the ability to stream via Twitch at 1080p and 60fps. These details have come not from Sony, but from leaked patch notes that were published. The update is expected to launch for all gamers later this month, but an exact launch date is unknown. The update for Twitch streaming isn't all that update 5.0 will bring to the table. The update also features changes to the PS4 master/sub account system that will give parents an... Read more...
The PlayStation 4 (PS4) first launched globally in November 2013, and has gone on to become a smash hit. Sony recently revealed that it has shipped over 60 million units of the consoles since launch, and it has outsold its rival Xbox One — which launched around the same time — nearly 2:1 to date. Although Sony’s console got a sort of “mid-cycle refresh” last year with the introduction of the PlayStation 4 Pro (PS4 Pro), it looks as though we could see a true next-generation console from the company as soon as next year. That information comes from Macquarie Capital Securities analyst Damian Thong. According to Thong, the PlayStation 5 will arrive during the second half of 2018. Now before... Read more...
There was a time back during the closing months of 2016 when we thought that Microsoft had turned the tide with Xbox One sales. A rather extensive round of price cuts along with the release of the Xbox One S allowed Microsoft to beat the PlayStation 4 in console sales for four straight months. However, Sony got its groove back in November (helped by the PlayStation 4 Pro launch) and hasn’t looked back since. According to NDP Group, the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 Pro have taken the sales crown again in February, extending its unbroken winning streak to four months. It shouldn’t be too surprising to see why Sony was able to hold on to the lead given that Capcom closed out January with the... Read more...
Sony’s highly anticipated System Software Update 4.50 will launch tomorrow, and with it comes a welcome new feature for PlayStation 4 Pro gamers: Boost Mode. Sony says that Boost Mode will increase performance for “legacy” games that haven’t been specifically optimized to take advantage of the additional firepower found on the PlayStation 4 Pro. “This can provide a noticeable frame rate boost to some games with variable frame rates, and can provide frame rate stability for games that are programmed to run at 30 Hz or 60 Hz,” says Sony, which goes on to reveal that gamers may even see reduced game load times with Boost Mode enabled. In some titles, Boost Mode was able to increase frame rates by... Read more...
