The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency slapped Logitech with a fine worth more than a quarter of a million dollars for claims the peripheral maker made about its cordless desktop MX3200 laser mouse and keyboard combo. Those peripherals are now defunct, but when they were being sold, Logitech touted their ability to protect users from nasty bacteria and microbes. That would have been fine and dandy, had Logitech tested its claims and then registered with the EPA. "Unverified public health claims can lead people to believe they are protected from disease-causing organisms when, in fact, they are not," said Jared Blumenfeld, EPA’s Regional Administrator for the Pacific Southwest. "The EPA... Read more...

Green's the going thing these days, and if you aren't joining in on the revolution, you're sitting it out by default. This one's designed to be plug-and-play with OS X, operating on a 2.4GHz wireless frequency (Unifying Receiver, not Bluetooth) and capable of running for three months on a full charge. There are solar cells along the top that recharge the board via direct or ambient light, and there's a Logitech-only concave key-cap design to look forward to as well. The Logitech... Read more...
No company wants a product that's returned more rapidly than it can sell them, but that's what Logitech reportedly has on its hands with the Revue. Logitech executives have stated that the Revue's revenue stream is "slightly negative," and the company has slashed prices from $249 to $99, reportedly in a bid to clear inventory (the unit is still listed at $249.99 on Logitech's homepage). We launched Revue with the expectation that it would generate significant sales growth in spite of a relatively high price point and the newness of both the smart TV category and the underlying platform,” Logitech chairman Guerrino De Luca said in a conference call on Thursday. “In hindsight, there... It doesn't matter how hard your earphones pound your eardrums with cranium shaking noise, you can't truly call yourself a power user unless you're ticking off the neighbors and scaring the hell out of the dog with a surround sound setup that rattles the walls and punches copious amounts of bass. Without it, you might as well give your man-card away to someone who plans on fulfilling the requirements for membership in an illustrious club that demands everything be over the top. Logitech's famed Z-5500 system fit the bill, and there are many who consider it to be the king of multimedia speakers. If you've got a thing for buying a new mouse every time a new one hits the market, you may need to find another hobby. The mice are crawling out of their holes at an alarming rate these days -- between Logitech, Razer, Microsoft and SteelSeries, it's hard to even keep track of these tracking devices. Logi is on deck this time with a newcomer, the Optical Gaming Mouse G400. It's said to be the follow-up mouse to the MX518, which currently sits as the company's best-ever selling gaming mouse. Needless to say, those are big shoes to fill. If you look closely, you'll see that the overall design of the G400 is very similar to that of the MX518, and that's intentional. Logitech went out of their way... Read more...
Your mother may have raised you to always keep your cool, but little did she know that heat-generating laptops would render her instructions hard to follow. That's one of the areas Logitech's new Lapdesk N600 was designed to help out with, providing a barrier between your notebook's toasty underside and those precious parts in and around your lap. Buy why stop there? The Lapdesk N600 has a trick up its sleeve that makes it unique. Hidden inside is a 5-inch retractable touchpad with multi-touch navigation. Sure, your notebook already has a trackpad, but this one's not only big, it's also flexible in that you can scroll using two fingers and swipe through pages or pictures using three. "We've seen... External webcams aren't nearly the rage they used to be. Perhaps that's because every notebook that ships today includes on, and a slew of new LCDs do as well. But if you're still stuck with an older monitor, or you just want something a bit more detailed than the 1.3MP embedded webcam, Logitech has a new option for you to consider. The TV Cam for Skype is a plug-and-play TV camera that'll let you make and receive high-definition video calls directly from select 2011 Panasonic VIERA Connect-enabled VIERA HDTVs that feature Skype. It's exactly what you think: a webcam for your television. Forget chatting over the PC; that's totally 2010. With this, you'll be able to have the whole family gather... Read more...

Logitech has a long history of pumping out peripherals on their own, but for whatever reason they've decided to team up with yet another accessory maker for their newest device. The Logitech Keyboard Case is actually designed in cooperation with ZAGG, yet another peripheral maker, and it's actually one of the more unique options. It's an iPad 2 case, but it has a built-in keyboard. A couple of those have surfaced, but none of them have really managed to grab the public with stellar build quality and functionality. This particular case is made of precision-cut aircraft-grade aluminum and features military-grade, high-density padding. It's always hard going right up against Apple themselves, but... Read more...
Another month, another mouse! Logitech's been cranking 'em out at a healthy clip lately, and the company's newest is easy to overlook...from a size standpoint only, of course. The Wireless Mouse M325 is perfect for travel, offering a compact size and a USB Unifying Receiver nub that's tiny enough to leave in your laptop at all times. The company asserts that it's optimized for web browsing, complete with a micro scroll-wheel (offering 4x the ratchets of an average mouse) that's said to make scrolling around a web page far more precise and fluid. All told, the wheel has 72 rugged, tiny ratchets, while the average mouse has only 18 to 24. This little guy also has a crazy battery life; up to 18... Read more...
Like us, you might have thought Logitech forgot all about 5.1 surround sound speakers and that the popular (and awesome) Z-5500 was the end of the road. Looks like we were all wrong on that one. Logitech today announced a long overdue successor to the Z-500, the multi-talented Z906. We say "mulit-talented" because the Z906 isn't designed primarily for the PC, but for anywhere you need banging bass and great sounding audio. You can connect up to six audio devices simultaneously, including your TV, DVD, DVR, Blu-ray player, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii, iPod, and of course your PC or Mac. So really it's intended to slide into your home theater, which is where you might have your PC in... Read more...

It had to happen sooner or later, and it's happening today: a solar powered keyboard is now reaching commercial status. Logitech has been known for their innovations in the peripheral market, with the nearly microscopic Unifying USB receiver being the latest. But the company's newest keyboard is likely to be the one that people remember most from 2010. The Wireless Solar Keyboard K750 is the company's first keyboard designed to be powered entirely by ambient light. That means that you can just use ambient, extra light in your office to power it; you don't need to be under direct sunlight. This is definitely a major step forward for keyboards, and it will be difficult to see too many companies... Read more...
Logitech, you're on your own now. Philips, which has been a major competitor in the home theater space for years, has just shut down a prominent part of that division: Pronto. Any home cinema buff would be familiar with that name, as that's the name of the company's universal remote control line. It was widely viewed as the main rival to Logitech's Harmony remote line, and with Pronto gone, there's a huge gap in that sector that now needs filled. Insiders would know that Philips has actually been struggling to find a buyer for the Pronto remote line since 2009. They haven't been successful in the search, so they're simply shutting it down and saying that Pronto "no longer fits with the Philips... Read more...
Like it or not, the vast majority of notebooks get fairly warm after extended use. A whole crop of accessories have been born simply due to this fact, and Logitech has a new one as well. This one isn't specifically designed just to keep you cool though, it's also designed to provide better audio from your laptop. The Speaker Lapdesk N550 is a product that sits between your lap and your notebook, and it helps to keep heat from beaming directly down onto your lap while also providing more robust sound. It's designed to hold most laptops up to 16" in size, but if you're using one smaller than 14.1", you might have an issue keeping things balanced. It also features stereo speakers on either side...
