As rich as the Linux OS is, one of its sticking-points is that a lot of companies don't properly support their products for it. Your Logitech mouse might work just fine under the OS, of course, but it wouldn't be the company to thank; rather, the support comes from the efforts of developers who share the same passion for the OS as you do. My ASUS Xonar audio card works brilliantly under Linux, but ASUS had nothing to do with it. But are things going to be soon changing? With Steam finally being offered to Linux gamers, it seems now more than ever the OS is starting to get the respect that it's long deserved. While I never doubted that gaming under Linux would become bigger at some point, the... Read more...

The new lineup, which includes six redesigned mice and keyboard favorites and two new headsets, will be available for you to own later this month. Now, Logitech Gaming Software (LGS) has been updated to support OS X. Now Mac gamers can enjoy the same great personalization and customized control our PC customers have come to reply on. Over the past few years, the consumer electronics industry has shifted in some fairly monumental ways. Desktop sales are eroding, tablet sales are growing, dumbphones are becoming ever more useless, and the peripheral market is expanding rapidly. When you're Logitech, shifting to avoid negative consequences seemingly means cutting staff. The company just announced plans to cut 140 positions, which amounts to around 5% of its non-manufacturing staff. It's all part of a grander scheme to streamline operations as it shifts away from dying businesses and embraces mobile. According to the company: "These priorities include increasing focus on mobility products, improving profitability in PC-related... Read more...
Logitech announced a new webcam designed for business, the Logitech Webcam C930e, and like its predecessors (including the C920-C), it’s laden with high-end features to make videoconferencing a more efficient, less distracting, and nicer-looking affair. The C930e boasts a 90-degree field of view, which Logitech says allows viewers to see an entire whiteboard during a meeting. Further, the Carl Zeiss-certified lens is built to eliminate fish-eye distortion, which is a nice touch. To allow the camera to more smoothly zoom in and out and move around to focus on various people or presentation materials, the C930e has a high definition digital pan-tilt-zoom feature with 4x magnification. The... Read more...

The iPad may not be a full-fledged computer, but leave it to Logitech to try and bring it closer to being one. The company has just introduced the Ultrathin Keyboard Cover for the iPad. It's a clip-on unit that attaches to the side of one's iPad, and in addition to adding a full QWERTY keyboard, it also includes a battery that could last for up to half a year. Half a year! That's based on using it for two hours a day, so heavier users will obviously need to charge up more often. It's available now for pre-order at $100, but if you're waiting to see if an iPad Mini hits before the end of the year, you may want to hang tight here as well.... Read more...

Job cuts in the tech industry has become an all too common theme in the past couple of years, and the latest round of redundancy reductions is set to take place at Logitech. The peripheral maker announced plans to restructure its operations and simplify its organization to "better align costs with its current business to and free up resources to pursue its growth opportunities," and part of the process will entail handing out 450 pink slips. "As we announced in April, this organizational streamlining, along with our strategy to deliver fewer but more compelling products, should position Logitech for renewed growth and profitability," said Bracken Darrell, Logitech president. "While we are saddened... Read more...
As the saying goes, you learn something new every day. Today, that tasty morsel of knowledge is the fact that according to the Trade Agreements Act of 1979 (aka the “TAA”), federal agencies in the U.S. are required to purchase certain products that are made only in the good old U.S. of A. (or in other designated countries). Thus, products the government buys must be TAA-compliant, which sounds like kind of a headache for federal IT buyers. Apparently, those “designated countries” include Taiwan, where Logitech is manufacturing peripherals that pass TAA muster. (We know, Logitech isn’t based in Taiwan, but that’s where these particular goods are being made.)... Read more...
Logitech introduced a new mouse that takes some notes from the way we navigate on smartphones and tablets. The new Touch Mouse M600 is a gesture-based mouse that lets you scroll, swipe, and surf wherever your fingertips rest on the mouse. The mouse doesn't care which hand you use, and the click areas can be reassigned using the Logitech SetPoint software.  Like some of Logitech's other popular devices today, the Touch Mouse M600 uses the Logitech Unifying receiver which can connect up to six compatible devices through one USB port. The Touch Mouse M600 is expected to be available sometime this month for about $70. Logitech Creates a More Touchable World with Logitech Touch Mouse M600 New... Read more...
The video chatting and collaboration aspects of unified communications (UC) are a big deal in the enterprise as companies routinely work with far-flung companies and employ remote workers in droves; for that matter, large companies rely on it as employees working in separate buildings or on different floors need to collaborate. Logitech is looking to make the video experience better to use and also easier to deploy with new webcam technology, full HD 1080p video at 30fps (thanks to a collaboration with Skype). The new technology keeps the H.264 video encoding in the camera itself, thus avoiding straining the CPU. As a result, users can keep programs open (such as presentation software) while... As CES draws a day closer, Logitech has let fly with news about a couple of new peripherals it will be showing off in Vegas, one a webcam and the other a mouse. The Logitech HD Pro Webcam C920 has some impressive features, but its primary claim to fame is its capability to conduct video calls in 1080p. The 1080p HD only works with Skype--Skype 5.7 Beta for Windows, to be precise--but Windows Live Messenger users can enjoy 720p. Some of those other excellent features include the ability to upload HD video clips or 15MP photos directly to social networking sites, Carl Zeiss optics, a smooth 20-step autofocus, and stereo mics for better audio. The new mouse in the house is dubbed simply “Cube”,... Read more...

Whether at home or on the road, Dropbox's automatic backup and password protection helps ensure that the Logitech Alert HD videos backed up to your PC are automatically and safely... Read more...
Cursed Cursors would be a fairly great name for a bad 80s rock band. But that's neither here nor there. What is here, however, is Logitech's new wireless mouse, the M525. It's a pretty simple fellow, aimed at those who value compact devices and loads of battery life. This guy's got the means to power through three years of (light) use, and there's a smart sleep mode and on/off switch as well. The tiny Logitech Unifying receiver connects up to six Unifying-compatible devices with a single nano receiver, so your space is free of clutter and your USB port stays free for other devices. And Logitech Advanced Optical Technology delivers laser-grade precision over the most challenging surfaces, while... Read more...

So why on earth didn't more of the major players think of this one a long time ago?  With all these people walking around with Bluetooth-ready music to stream, why not design speaker systems with Bluetooth connectivity as well?  Perhaps I've been living under a rock.  I mean sure, there are a few Bluetooth ready speakers out there from the likes of Bose and Creative but there really aren't that many worth considering, when you think about it.  And who the heck wants to "dock" mechanically?  Uggh...  dude, that's so 90s. Then, out of nowhere, Logitech pops into my inbox offering up their Wireless Boombox for evaluation here at HH.  I'm thinking, okay, who was... Read more...
