Sony Computer Entertainment wanted to make sure you could play your PS2 games on a PS3. So they put PS2 hardware right in it. That won't last, and an emulator will eventually replace it. So will all your PS2 games work on the PS3 emulator? Beats me. Beats them too: SCE has so far set out the principle to secure the PS3's compatibility with the PS2 using an emulator that works on the Cell. According to SCE, it decided to mount the EE and GS on the PS3 to guarantee operation of certain game titles, which do not use the library recommended by SCE. The company, however, said the EE and GS will be "removed before long" (Kutaragi), indicating... Read more...
If all you needed was a spreadsheet and Word, all computers would have an inch of dust on them and would have yellowed to the color of smoker's teeth. But computer gamers were never satisfied. They demanded ever more powerful GPUs to run their games. And now a funny thing has happened: GPUs are more powerful than CPUs. At the SuperComputing 2006 conference next week in Tampa, Florida, researchers from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill will release benchmark tests showing how specialized graphics processing units, or GPUs, developed for the games industry over the past few years compare with all-purpose central processing... Would Microsoft ever forget about it's core set of free games like Minesweeper, Solitaire, and Hearts? Of course not. But they have given them a bit of a touch-up job, which is no surprise considering the emphasis their putting on the OS' looks. In one of their latest articles, GameSpot checks out Vista's version of the Window classics, and also covers some new games(Finally, Chess). "Windows Vista's updated DirectX 10 API promises to give us better-looking and better-playing games by allowing game developers to get more performance out of the PC system, but Vista isn't only going to help improve those $50 games. Good afternoon friends, N.J. here with another shot of Juice.  Things around the Canadian portion of the HH labs have been extremely hectic over the past few days.  With good things brewing at the day job and a GF dealing with a serious case of allergies, I have been stretched fairly thin.  However, there is always time to hook up my brothers and sisters with some juice... Cooler Master Wavemaster Case Review @ ClubOC "Matt has just wrapped up a sweet review on one of the nicest ATX enclosures I have ever seen, the Cooler Master Wavemaster. The Hercules Gamesound Fortissimo II Big Sound, Small Price... By Robert Maloney April 17, 2002 Before we begin, I would like to give you a little background information because this is my debut appearance on HotHardware.  I have been working on and with computers for most of my life (as I am sure most of you reading this can say the same) and consider myself somewhat of a techno-geek. New hardware always makes me a drool, even when I have no need for it. My first IBM clone was a sleek 486DX50 with a whopping 4MB of RAM. Being a novice to clones at the time, I bought this one with only two words in my head as a requisite: ?SOUND? & ?BLASTER?. All of the advice I heard said that you needed... Read more...
