Yesterday, we brought you the momentous news that Bethesda had a new Fallout game in the works, and that a 10AM EST announcement Wednesday morning would seal the deal. Well, we haven’t quite crept up on 10AM yet, but the news surrounding Fallout 4 is coming in at a furious pace. We have official confirmation that Fallout 4 will not only be available on the PC, but also the two premier console platforms: Microsoft’s Xbox One and Sony’s PlayStation 4. As has been rumored for quite some time, the game is set in a Boston, with “Scollay Square” shown prominently in the screenshot below. We have also learned that Fallout 4 will be available from the usual suspects including Amazon, GameStop, and Best... Read more...
There are teaser trailers, and then there are teaser trailers. The newest installment in the Doom franchise is currently under the development, and id Software (along with publisher Bethesda) are trying to build hype for the game with a fresh pre-E3 2015 trailer. However, you had better not blink because the incredibly short, 12-second trailer only has roughly three seconds of actual game footage. What a tease! Thankfully, the footage that we do see looks awesome and gives us a clear look at the Revenant demon that gamers were first introduced to over twenty years ago with Doom 2. Another 1994-era scene stealer is the Super Shotgun which makes an all too brief appearance in the trailer. The next... Read more...
"Before the 'New Order', there was... 'The Old Blood'." During GDC, Bethesda announced that MachineGames will be releasing a prequel "to everyone’s favorite Nazi-blasting first-person shooter of 2014" (do zombie games count or something?): Wolfenstein: The New Order. And based on the trailer, it looks awesome. The Old Blood acts like an expansion, but a standalone one (much like how Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon worked). It'll be available for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, and costs the same for each: $19.99. At least for now, this is going to be a download-only game. Assuming the role once again of BJ Blazkowicz, players will progress through the game via eight parts that seem to act as chapters.... Read more...
It has been rumored recently that Bethesda would have to push back the release date of Elder Scrolls Online for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, so this official news isn't surprising. What is, though, is the fact that the game's being pushed back an entire six months. This is sure to come as a disappointment to those who had plans to spend some of their summer in Bethesda's latest virtual world. Delays like these are never taken lightly, and in the case of this one, Bethesda simply had no choice. The company has been best familiar with online games that were bound for the PC and Mac, where there are fewer networking restrictions and hurdles to jump over compared to the consoles. In an email sent... Read more...
Where does the time go? I can remember playing Wolfenstein 3D as if it weren't all that long ago, though it's actually been a long 22 years since it was released. Fast forward to today and we've seen a handful of followup titles, though the forthcoming Wolfenstein: The New Order will be the first not to bear the Id Software badge. You'll play as William "B.J." Blazkowicz, an American war hero, and it's your job to launch a counter-offensive against the Nazis who, in this alternate version of history, won World War II. The war is over and the Nazi regime is in charge, ruling the world with an iron fist. Here's a look at you'll be up against: Yes, you just got peppered with bullets and stepped... Read more...
Mention "next" and "Doom" in the same sentence, and people are sure to take notice. Such is the case today with Bethesda coming out of left field with the first mention of a beta for "the next Doom game" - still untitled, and with no release date in sight. Heck, we are not even being given a single screenshot. Wolfenstein: The New Order As iconic as the Doom series is, it hasn't seen a new title since 2004, with the release of Doom 3 (which I recall as the game that required a 1GB GPU for its top graphics settings - ouch!). "Doom 4" was announced in 2008, and was reported to have been started over with a new engine in 2011. Since then, we've heard nothing, until today. Nonetheless, gaining access... Read more...
In the world of software, it's not uncommon to learn of a program that's implemented vulnerable code for over a decade (Java, anyone?), but where gaming's concerned, that's another story. According to a security researcher simply going by "Joe", one such vulnerability has made Bethesda its home. Clearly the sort of guest that overstays their welcome, this vulnerability has appeared in the company's titles dating back to 2002, with Morrowind. Exploiting the vulnerability is a matter of loading up the in-game console and writing out some simple hex code to alter some memory addresses. An example is with: "0x%x_0x%x_0x%x". When executed, the action skips a function due to how... Read more...
Bethesda Softworks is prepping a new title in the Wolfenstein series that pits the franchise's hero, B.J. Blazkowicz, against an alternate-history version of the post World War II era in which the Nazis, not the Allies, were ultimately victorious. BJ, apparently on ice for more than a decade, awakens in this nightmare version of the future -- a nightmare that the trailer refers to as a "rewriting", implying that BJ, at least, is aware of what's happened. Some losses... are unthinkable Wolfenstein always delved heavily into the Nazi fascination with the occult; the last games in the series relied upon it as a primary driver of their plot lines. Having killed Hitler in the third episode and dealt... Read more...
If you've somehow managed to miss the long and fun ride known as Skryim, you owe it to yourself to check it out (assuming you're into RPGs). And to make sure you don't miss anything Skyrim has to offer, Bethesda this week announced plans to release The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Legendary Edition, which will include the most up-to-date version of the original game and all three expansions. In addition to the Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn add-ons, the Legendary release will also come with "added features like combat cameras, mounted combat, Legendary difficulty mode for hardcore players, and Legendary skills," the latter of which will allow gamers to master every perk and level up their skills... Sorry Skyrim fans, but Bethesda is moving on. The game developer announced earlier this week that it would no longer release new content for the popular RPG (long live user mods), as it's been doing for the past year and a half, limiting work on Skyrim to "minor updates" as they're needed. Fans of the game took the news with a heavy heart, though before the tears could dry up, Bethesda took to Twitter to tease its next project, which "requires the studio's full attention to make." Here's the short four-second clip: Moments after Bethesda posted the above Vine video, Jason Bergman, a senior producer who was involved with Fallout: New Vegas, posted a follow-up tweet saying, "Consider yourself teased."... Bethesda Softworks, designers and distributors of normally excellent titles, are bringing out a "new" version of Doom 3, Doom 3: BFG. The new package includes "remastered" graphics (more on that gem in a moment), the Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil add-on, seven new levels thrillingly titled "The Lost Mission" and support for 3D, 5.1 surround, a checkpoint save system, some improved lighting, and the first official implementation of the Duct Tape mod, which allowed you to simultaneously see the game and shoot things. You also get Doom and Doom 2. Be still my heart. If you're one of the six people who game in 3D, wanted to play Doom 3 on a PS3 but never got the chance, or need a 5.1 speaker surround... Bethesda Softworks last Thursday finally and officially announced The Elder Scrolls Online, an "epic MMO" of sorts that will become "the first Elder Scrolls game to allow players to explorer the series' universe with others." Following the announcement, Bethesda has now released its first teaser trailer, a 1-minute YouTube clip with a strong emphasis on 'teaser.' There's not a whole lot of reveal going on, just a nifty soundtrack and some gnarly narration to get you pumped about the upcoming game. According to Game Informer, which looks to have had an exclusive on announcing the MMO, Zenimax Online Studios is in charge of producing the title that will take place before the events of Skyrim. Check... Read more...

It's only been five months since Skyrim hit store shelves, but the amount of work done on the game by both Bethesda and an army of modders has been enormous. With the Creation Kit now in the wild for several months, we've rounded up some of the best mods available and brought them for your consideration. We'll also walk you through the modding process and how to get started. ProTip: If you re-map the "F" key in Skyrim's key bindings, the new key to assign a favorite is "A." This isn't explained or listed anywhere in game; we found it by accident. What Makes a Mod 'Must-Have? There are literally thousands of Skyrim mods available, ranging from small adjustments to NPC dialog or tone of voice,... Read more...
Bethesda Softworks released a one-two punch today; simultaneously debuting the Skyrim Creation Kit and a surprise -- new, high-resolution textures for its smash hit. The Creation Kit gives modders access to the same tools the game developers use for updating and creating Skyrim. The Creation Kit is integrated into the Steam Workshop--for those of you who missed the announcement a few weeks back, the Workshop is a community/distribution hub for user-created content. Modders working with the Creation Kit will be able to upload their projects to Steam for sharing with other users. As you can see, there's a learning curve attached to using the CK, which is where Bethesda's Creation Kit Wiki will... Read more...
The big daddy of all 3D FPS game studios, id Software, has been acquired by ZeniMax Media - the media company run by Jerry Bruckheimer (himself), Robert Altman (not that one) and Harry Sloan (CEO of MGM). As a result of being brought into the Zenimax fold, the id Software franchises will be published under the Bethesda Softworks label, and games development will be done under one roof, as John Carmack has put it. This means Fallout 3, Quake, Doom and Elder Scrolls IV as one big happy family. Activision will retain the Wolfenstein distribution, though. The sale isn't a fortuitous alignment of stars in the night sky or a bet lost at poker, id Software is using this to get ahead of the game when... Read more...
Fallout fans rejoice! Bethesda Softworks has posted a short teaser for their currently under development Fallout 3. After purchasing the rights to the franchise from Interplay a few years ago, it's great to see that Bethesda is taking the task of creating the third installment of the Fallout series seriously. Having been a Fallout fan for years I admit to that after hearing Bethesda would be making the third fallout I was a bit apprehensive. Bethesda has made some great games including the wildly popular Elder Scrolls series but as any Fallout fan knows Fallout is not just about game play, it’s also about the way our favorite post-nuclear-holocaust world is portrayed. With that said if the new... Read more...
Bethesda has released some new content for their top selling game, adding a new faction with some new quests, a few extras enemies, and some new items. The Elders Scrolls: Oblivion - Knights of the Nine costs $9.99, a little more than Bethesda's previous content releases, and can be downloaded in multiple languages from here. "A fallen King has been unchained from the darkness of Oblivion to seek vengeance upon the Gods who banished him. Only a champion pure of heart can vanquish the evil that has been released upon the land. You must heed the call, reclaim the lost relics of the Divine Crusader, and return the Nine to glory. New dungeons,... Read more...
