We have the world's first full review and showcase of Asus' new "Extreme N7800GTX Top" Graphics card for you today.  This card comes equipped with a great cooling solution that exhausts warm air from the card outside of the system chassis and allows for much lower temps under pressure at the card level and even for the entire system.  We should also mention that since it's based on the new GeForce 7800GTX, it's killer fast... Right then, it's killer fast.  So we tested a pair of them in an SLI setup as well! Go see...... Read more...
When NVIDIA launched the GeForce 7800GTX back in June, most of the retail cards we saw were cookie-cutter replicas of each other, at least physically.  About the only things that differentiated one card from another were various clock speed tweaks depending on the manufacturer or the software and game bundles that were included.  Regardless, with the design elegance that the reference GeForce 7800 GTX offers, we were certain it wouldn't be long before the various AIBs brought out their own customized variations on the product. Although its PCB design is still very much a stock GeForce 7800GTX layout, the ASUS Extreme N7800GTX Top is the first retail board we've seen that incorporates... Read more...
It's been less than two months since NVIDIA initially announced the availability of their new GeForce 7800 GTX, and already we ourselves in the enviable position of showcasing a third retail-ready version of NVIDIA's flagship card. We've previously showcased BFG's Editor's Choice Winning GeForce 7800 GTX OC and EVGA's e-GeForce 7800 GTX EGS, but this time around we have MSI's NX7800GTX in the HotHardware labs. Due to the fact that they are all based on NVIDIA's reference design, the MSI NX7800GTX is similar to BFG's and EVGA's products in many respects, but they differ in clock speed and perhaps more importantly in price. Read on and see what MSI has done with NVIDIA's latest top-of-the-line... Read more...
Hey folks, who likes mondays? Not me, but I managed to get a chuckle this morning from "Flat-screen memorials to the dead emerge" story over at the Inquirer. Anyway, I need to be getting back to work, enjoy the news. X800GT BIOS Update Boosts 7% Performance @ CoolTechZone "Powercolor appears to be making its mark with the X800GT, ATI's answer to NVIDIA's 6600GT. Since Powercolor is one of the first few board partners to actually have a X800GT in the market, it's getting all the attention it possibly could. With that said, Powercolor does have a strategy behind promoting its X800GT offering. Unlike other board partners that went with ATI's R423 chips in order to save cost, Powercolor... Read more...
Hey folks, I can't get back to sleep so I'm going to clean out the news box. Goodnight! nVidia GeForce 7800 GT Comparison @ GamePC Labs "Today at GamePC, we've compared two new GeForce 7800 GT cards which hit the market last week. From Asus, we have the Extreme N7800 GT card, and from eVGA, we have their e-GeForce 7800 GT. Both cards run off an nVidia reference design, but differ in terms of clock speeds, bundled hardware, and appearance. We test these cards in single card and SLI card scenarios against other high-end nVidia and ATI cards." While browsing through the articles that flood our news box, the Archos Gmini 402 really caught my eye. It looks like a hand held game system, but it's more of a portable media center. It's not cheap, but it's reasonable considering the feature set and size of the hard drive(20GB). CoolTechZone has more details for you, so check it out... Archos Gmini 402 Pocket Multimedia Center @ CoolTechZone.com "There are six main features that make this product standout: PC autosync, video playback, photo wallet, connectivity, music playback and portable gaming. PC autosync would allow you to transfer files back and forth with an automated process. Video and audio playback are self-explanatory; the... Read more...
It's late on a Saturday night/early morning and things are quiet around the HH labs except for one dedicated (crazed perhaps?) Tech Editor.  A shot of the mayhem is below... We got a hold of a couple of Asus' soon to be available GeForce 7800GTXs - entitled the "Extreme N7800GTX Top".  These cards are clocked at 486MHz core and 1.35GHz on their GDDR3 memory, right out of the box.  Strap down a pair of them in conjunction with an Athlon 64 FX-57 and the benchmark run-times are cut down nearly in half in most cases.  We'll be following up with a full showcase of the cards in weeks ahead but I thought I'd toss out a bit of a tease for you in case you needed a tech drool... Hey folks, any of you get to see the meteor shower tonight? It wasn't exactly spectacular from my end of the world, but a few bright ones zoomed across the sky, just enough of them to make it worth the mosquito attacks. OLED Technology: An Overview @ Anandtech: "OLEDs are the latest and most promising buzzwords in display technology. To give you an idea of their potential, imagine a cardboard-thin TV screen. Now imagine that you can roll up your TV, put it away or carry it wherever you go. Automatically, you start appreciating why millions, if not billions, of dollars are being poured into OLED research every year." BFGTech GeForce 7800 GT Review @ HardOCP: "NVIDIA isn't stopping here, as just as there was a "GT" GeForce 6 series of GPU, there is now going to be a "GT" GeForce 7 series of GPU as well. The GeForce 7800 GTX is at the top, and right below that NVIDIA is announcing a new GPU today,... Read more...
It's been only about seven weeks since the GeForce 7800 GTX was officially launched on June 22, but NVIDIA is already making news yet again today with the latest addition to their GeForce 7 Series of cards, the new GeForce 7800 GT. As its name implies, the GeForce 7800 GT is very similar to NVIDIA's current flagship GeForce 7800 GTX, but the GT is launching with a significantly lower MSRP for a couple of reasons. Both cards are based on the GPU formerly codenamed "G70", however, the GeForce 7800 GT has four less pixel pipelines and is missing one vertex unit when compared to the GTX version. The new GeForce 7800 GT's reference specifications also call for lower core and memory clock... Read more...
VisionTek XTASY Theater 550Pro @ [H]ard|OCP: "What really makes this chip unique is that it has a 12-bit video decoder. Most add-in-card solutions only offer a 10-bit video decode solution. The Theater 550 Pro itself can perform 60 billion operations per second meaning smooth video frame rates employing image quality features to clear up the image. Part of the 12-bit decoder is a high quality 2D comb filter that exceeds other filters by offering 5 lines instead of 3. The 2D comb filter is beneficial when your input source is of composite material such as a standard TV broadcast through the RCA (Yellow) connection. This higher quality filter on the Theater 550 Pro allows for more detail and... Read more...
NVIDIA most definitely has been on a roll as of late, with the introduction of a very successful 4th generation motherboard chipset with the nForce 4, and more recently with their GeForce 7 series launch and market introduction of the GeForce 7800GTX.  In these launch articles we often times work with platform "reference" hardware for testing direct from the core technology OEM and soon to follow, we cover retail level products from various board partners as they are released into the channel. With the NVIDIA GeForce 7800GTX launch however, the Silicon Valley based 3D Graphics giant seems amazingly strong and confident in their roll-out, as is evident in the wealth of information... Hey folks, I'm here to drop some news off before I hit the sack. Coming straight from HH, Marco has reviewed EVGA's e-GeForce 7800 GTX EGS, check below for more information. Goodnight all :) EVGA e-GeForce 7800 GTX EGS "The e-GeForce 7800 GTX we'll be showcasing today is one of three 7800 based products EVGA currently has in their line-up, but we know a fourth model with a custom cooling solution should be available in the not-too-distant future as well. The e-GeForce 7800 GTX we have here, part number 256-P2-N528-AX, is essentially a duplicate of NVIDIA's reference design, with slightly different default core and memory clock speeds and a custom decal on the fan shroud." Almost immediately after we begun working with NVIDIA's reference GeForce 7800 GTX cards in the days and weeks leading up to the launch, we were contacted by a handful of NVIDIA's launch partners and informed that they'd have retail hardware ready to coincide with the official announcement of the GeForce 7800 GTX.  Leadtek, Gigabyte, BFG, MSI, Asus and EVGA were among the first to contact us with some specifics regarding their respective GeForce 7800 GTX cards.  The first one to send us a sample for review, however, was EVGA. The e-GeForce 7800 GTX we'll be showcasing today is one of three 7800 based products EVGA currently has in their line-up, but we know a fourth model with a custom... Read more...
Hey folks, are you enjoying the heat? The northeast portion of the HH labs is brutally hot today. Not quite as hot as my hardware(haha!), but it feels like it. Anyway, getting to the news.
