2K Games today revealed pricing for its upcoming NBA 2K21 game, which will launch first on current-generations game systems (PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Windows PCs, and Google Stadia), then later on Microsoft's and Sony's respective next-generation consoles, the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. However, pricing will not be the same on current-gen and next-gen platforms, at least not for the standard edition. Regardless of platform, NBA 2K21 will arrive in two main releases—standard and a special Mamba Forever Edition honoring the late Kobe Bryant, the former Los Angeles Lakers superstar who perished this year in a helicopter crash, along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna... Many gamers are going to be even more frustrated as NVIDIA also had to announce yesterday that 2K Games had requested that all of its games be removed from the GeForce NOW streaming service. NVIDIA announced the retraction on its GeForce NOW forum, noting that it was working with 2K Games to re-enable its games in the future. Whether or not NVIDIA will be able to talk 2K Games into returning with their titles remains to be seen. As of now, NVIDIA has been unsuccessful in getting any of the other publishers who have pulled out of the service to return, so the future of the service is unsettled in spots for sure, and it's really kind of sad. Multiple subscribers to GFN have posted in the comments... Read more...
In this day and age, online account security is constantly under attack by nefarious parties that are looking to settle scores, makes a few bucks, or simply trying to make a name for themselves. 2K Games found this out the hard way last night after a number of its social media accounts were hacked in a massive security breach for the game publisher. Not only was the company's Facebook account compromised, but its Twitter profile was also taken over by foul-mouthed pranksters. One social media account being compromised is bad enough, but this was a coordinated attack across multiple mediums, which is much more troubling security problem for 2K Games. Messages posted to Facebook and Twitter consisted... Read more...
Gearbox Software's latest game, Borderlands 3, is enjoying enormous success on PC and console, though some gamers have run into performance issues on both platforms. Fortunately on PC, adjusting the resolution and tweaking the settings can yield immediate results (though some players have already asked for a framerate fix). The options on console are a bit more limited, though there is a simple setting that could improve performance. The setting is also a bit deceiving. On the Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro, Gearbox allows Borderlands 3 to run at 3200x1800 for more visual pop, with framerates capped at 30 frames per second (fps). This is the resolution mode. Alternatively, users can prioritize... Read more...
Borderlands 3 is officially here and gamers are already customizing the skill trees of their favorite Vault Hunters. The game also includes a wide variety of weapon types. Today we will dig into the pros and cons of the Borderlands 3 eight basic weapon types.  First and foremost it is important to note that players only start out with two weapon slots in Borderlands 3. Gamers will need to play through the first hour or so of the game before they can equip a third weapon. Players will leave Pandora on a spaceship and will then unlock that third slot. Players will unlock their fourth and final slot after playing through a long quest of the planet of Promethea. Most players will likely be able... Read more...
Are you getting hyped for Borderlands 3 yet? Fans of the Borderlands franchise who plan to preorder the upcoming installment would be wise to head over to Amazon, at least if planning to play on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. That's because Amazon is offering a couple of bonuses, one of which is a $10 promotional credit. The baseline Standard Edition of Borderlands 3 costs $59.99, and that is what you will have to pay upfront to preorder the game. If you are a Prime member, Amazon will email you a $10 promotional credit 30-35 days after the game ships. Yes, it's a bummer having to wait a month, but it beats preordering the game and getting nothing in return. There's also a second bonus offer.... Read more...

You still have to wait more than four months before Borderlands 3 releases to retail, though Gearbox Software has come up with a clever way of awarding in-game loot starting right now. How so? It requires installing a Twitch extension and watching prominent streamers play during today's Gameplay Reveal Event. "Hundreds of the biggest streamers will be playing and livestreaming Borderlands 3, and we’re excited to announce that we’ll be debuting the official Borderlands 3 ECHOcast Twitch extension as part of the experience," Gearbox Software said. To take advantage of this opportunity, you have to link your SHiFT and Twitch accounts, and install the official Borderlands 3 ECHOcast extension.... Read more...
There is a ton of hype surrounding the Borderlands franchise right now, with Borderlands 3 set to release on September 13. If you are new to Borderlands or want to revisit some of the previous titles before the next one comes out, good news—Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is free to play this weekend. Well, for some users. The free weekend has already begun and runs until Sunday, April 7, ending at 11:59 pm PT for Xbox One gamers and 10 am PT on the same day for PC players, via Steam. What about PlayStation 4 players? Unfortunately, they get left out of this round. For those who are able to participate, there is a lot of content available. Borderlands: The Handsome Collection includes... Read more...
As was anticipated following a recent teaser trailer, Gearbox Software confirmed at PAX East that Borderlands 3 is coming. The developer also posted a new trailer on YouTube, and rather than a vague teaser, we get to see the dystopian setting in cartoon garb, as we have become accustomed to with the Borderlands franchise. Borderlands 3 looks to stick to the same script, in terms of look and feel. This will be the fourth installment in the series (following Borderlands 1 and 2, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel), and it features some familiar faces. Lilith from the first Borderlands, for example, is in Borderlands 3. In one scene, we see her without her Siren tattoos as she crawls away from the... Read more...
Apple iPad owners who are used to paying just a few dollars for non-free mobile games might be in for a bit of sticker shock if they plan on playing Sid Meier's Civilization VI on their tablet. The turn-based strategy title was developed by Firaxis Games and published to PC a year ago by 2K Games, and now Aspyr Media has brought the full game experience to the iPad, with a $60 asking price. The game is free to try out for the first 60 turns. After that, you have to pay the piper. Setting the price for the iPad version to the same as it sells for on Steam for PC is a bold move, and unprecedented for a mobile port. To put this into context, 2K Games set a $20 price for the iOS port of XCOM: Enemy... Read more...
When word spread last September that Battleborn would go the free-to-play route, Gearbox president Randy Pitchford fired up his Twitter account and cast a wet blanket on the rumors, calling them "reckless" and downright "false." Well, fast forward not quite a year later and Battleborn is now free to experience, at least partially. Gearbox announced that effective immediately gamers can download a free trial of Battleborn and play unlimited competitive multiplayer. There are no time limits in the free trial, nor are there level caps to worry about. Furthermore, the trial includes access to all of the multiplayer game modes and maps, and all 30 heroes through weekly rotations of six. "Progress... Read more...
Is all publicity, good publicity? Video games, especially crime-based games such as Grand Theft Auto and Mafia, tend to garner controversy. The issues surrounding Mafia III, the latest game in the Mafia franchise, however, are rather unique in nature. In Mafia III, the gamer plays as Lincoln Clay, a mixed-race soldier who has just returned from Vietnam to the fictional, New Orleans-inspired city of New Bordeaux. Clay soon joins the “family business” in an African-American mob. One of Clay’s tasks is to steal vehicles from Thomas Burke, an Irish mob leader with not-so-subtle connections to the Irish Republican Army (IRA). Burke claims that the cars are to “keep the Belfast law guessing when things... Read more...
It's always unfortunate to see a really hyped game experience major issues upon its release. It sucks not just for those who purchased the game, but for the developers who put thousands of development hours into it. Unfortunately, this is the reality that Evolve developer Turtle Rock Studios experienced first-hand last year. While Evolve was well-received overall, it had a couple of niggles that prevented long-term support. Some didn't care much for the map design, and many didn't like the company's DLC plans. With all issues combined, Evolve didn't experience the kind of success that the industry at large expected. But, that's the reason second chances exist, right? It was rumored a couple of... Following yesterday’s “leak” which turned up screenshots (and a box shot) of BioShock the Collection, 2K Games officially let the cat out the bag today. BioShock fans will be pleased to hear that the title will be released on September 13th for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC. So what exactly will fans receive in this latest gaming bundle? You’ll find BioShock, BioShock 2, the latest addition to the series, BioShock Infinite — all of which have been remastered in 1080p and run at up to 60 fps. And just in case you get tired of simply trundling around with just the original content offered in the games, you’ll also receive all single-player add-on content. Also included is a director’s commentary... Read more...

Seven months after the release of Civilization: Beyond Earth, the game's first expansion pack has been announced. Called Rising Tide, this expansion pack revolves around water, water, and more water. Players will be able to colonize and explore vast oceans, while encountering new leaders and aliens, and producing unique units. Rising Tide will introduce an overhauled diplomacy system, adding even more complexity to your relationships, and also adds four new factions. One of these factions is called Al Falah, a group of nomad explorers who've descended from wealthy Middle Eastern states. Affinities have also been given an upgrade, now allowing you to unlock hybrid units and upgrades, and similarly,... Read more...
It was being hunted... The monster had been avoiding a team of four hunters ever since it saw them jump out of the spaceship. But by the time the hunters’ feet had touched the ground, the monster was already distancing itself, jumping over large boulders and running through trees in order to get away from the human threat. Along the way, it would slay any of the indigenous wildlife in its path, to devour, in order to evolve and become stronger. Time passed, as the monster played a dangerous game of cat and mouse with the four hunters, while continuing to feed. Now, it felt strong enough to take on its pursuers. But before it could take the fight to them, a blue dome came down around it, trapping... Read more...
Planning to call in sick to school or work tomorrow so that you can play Evolve all day long? Brace yourself, a 3GB patch is coming. Developer Turtle Rock Studios says you'll need to download and apply the massive patch before jumping into online play. By applying the update, you'll benefit from improved load times, better matchmaking, and network bandwidth optimizations, to name a few of the fixes. “What can you really add to Evolve at this point? It’s already gone gold!," Turtle Rock Studios stated in a blog post. "This question came up a lot over the course of the Open Beta weekend in January. Truth is, that long weekend was a big learning experience for us. As a result, on day one – before... Read more...
2K Games and Gearbox Software has a magnificent duo of gaming releases to announce today, starting off with Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, which will be available for both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. The set will include both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, which was released late last year. The Handsome Collection will also come with downloadable content for both titles. While that’s all well and good, there’s an even greater bundle available that will not only bring out your inner child, but will also empty your wallet. If you’re one of the lucky 5,000 people that will have the opportunity to purchase the Borderlands: Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition for Xbox One and... Read more...
After blowing out both of my knees, at least one of which is still in need of more surgical repair, I find it's safer and generally easier on my body (though not always my sanity) to drop dimes and take it strong to the rim in basketball simulations than it is to hop back on the blacktop. That's one of the reasons why I'm looking forward to NBA 2K15 by 2K Games. And the other? Face mapping technology. I'm short, white, and like to pretend I still have an athletic build. Creating an in-game character with those traits is pretty easy, but even after tweaking the hair and goatee, the resemblance is always minor at best. That won't be the case in NBA 2K15. According to an AP report, the developers... Read more...
Gamespy's multiplayer servers are getting unplugged and going dark on May 31, and as the deadline approaches, game publishers are scrambling to find new homes. For 2K, the solution is simple -- send its more popular games over to Steamworks. That includes the first Borderlands titles and several Civilization games, which are all headed to Steam. "Beginning May 31, 2014, Borderlands 1 and select titles from the Civilization catalog will temporarily go offline while service is transitioned to Steamworks," 2K announced in a blog post. "During the transition, players will experience interruption of several features, including online play, matchmaking and voiceover Internet protocol (VOIP) where applicable.... Read more...
