HTC 10 Performance Review: A Snapdragon 820 Powered Flagship

Next up we have GFXBench, which has been one of our standard mobile graphics performance benchmarks for quite a while now. In order to ensure V-sync and resolution aren’t limiting factors, we will compare Offscreen test results here.

We also ran with Futuremark's 3DMark benchmark, which has been a staple 3D graphics benchmark here across all mobile and desktop platforms for many years. In this case we're running 3DMark Ice Storm Unlimited, which is targeted for mobile devices and also runs at 720p in offscreen mode, so as to take display resolution out of the equation. We also tossed Basemark X into the mix, which is another cross-platform graphics benchmark.

In GFX Bench, the HTC 10 and its Snapdragon 820 with Adreno 530 graphics put up some excellent numbers, and lead the pack along with Samsung's latest devices.

3DMark Ice Storm, tells a somewhat different story, though this test is more and more CPU limited with the latest flagship smartphones. Here, the HTC 10 slots in just behind the Galaxy S7 Edge, but the deltas separating the devices are relatively small.

The HTC 10 faltered in the Basemark X benchmark. Here, it trailed competing devices by a relatively large margin. It should have performed right in-line with the S7 considering the two devices have the same SoC and graphics engine, but no matter how many times we tried the HTC 10's score always fell within the 32K - 33K range.

Even before being exposed to the Commodore P.E.T. and later the Commodore 64 in the early ‘80s, he was interested in electricity and electronics, and he still has the modded AFX cars and shop-worn soldering irons to prove it. Once he got his hands on his own Commodore 64, however, computing became Marco's passion. Throughout his academic and professional lives, Marco has worked with virtually every major platform from the TRS-80 and Amiga, to today's high end, multi-core servers.
