Apple is set to launch three new iPhones this year with two of those being OLED devices according to rumors. The third device is said to be a much more affordable LCD equipped device with screens rumored earlier to be supplied by LG. One of the biggest challenges for Apple when it comes to making enough of its smartphones has been getting enough displays over the last several years. Samsung and Apple have had a tie-up for the high-end OLED panels that it uses on the iPhone X, but things haven’t been all roses for the two firms. A watch from a Chinese firm Mobvoi dubbed the TicWatch Pro claims to be able to provide up to 30 days of battery life via a 415mAh battery. It can achieve that long battery life due to the fact that it has two screens integrated into the face of the wearable. A new rumor is floating around that claims Apple isn’t betting big on the iPhone X for the current quarter. This comes on the heels of Apple having reportedly slashed iPhone X orders by half for Q1 2018. The new rumor claims that Apple has only ordered 8 million iPhone X smartphones for the current quarter due to slow sales. Orders in Q1 2018 were reported to be 20 million units. The source claims that while those 20 million units represented half of what Apple had planned to build for Q1 2018, it still built too many of the very expensive smartphones for the quarter that ended in December.... The next big shift is a transition from liquid crystal display (LCD) panels to organic light emitting diode (OLED) screens. As it pertains to smartphones, an increasing number of companies are making the switch. Foxconn has announced that it is making a massive investment into a new U.S. manufacturing facility. The gigantic factory will cover 20,000 square feet and is said to be a virtual village with the factory, housing, and services arrayed around a 1,000 acre parcel of land. The investment in the facility by Foxconn will cost $10 billion and will be constructed somewhere in Wisconsin. The construction of the facility is expected to be completed by 2020, and could employ as many as 13,000 workers. It's already impressive that many of today's smartphones have higher display resolutions than the big screen TVs in our living room. That doesn't mean you can expect stagnation when it comes to smartphone displays. Just the opposite, the production cost of superior AMOLED panels for smartphones is now lower than the cost of LCDs. According to the latest research by IHS Technology, it costs $14.30 to produce a 5-inch AMOLED panel, versus $14.60 for an LCD equivalent. Before we dive in and show you the brand-new ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q G-Sync enabled monitor, we have a confession to make: We are ecstatic that there is finally some innovation happening in the monitor market. For years, 30” panels with native resolutions of 2560x1600 and paltry 60Hz refresh rates remained the pinnacle of desktop displays, while the rest of the market filled up with cheap, less-than-stellar 1080p panels.
