Gearbox Software's latest game, Borderlands 3, is enjoying enormous success on PC and console, though some gamers have run into performance issues on both platforms. Fortunately on PC, adjusting the resolution and tweaking the settings can yield immediate results (though some players have already asked for a framerate fix). The options on console are a bit more limited, though there is a simple setting that could improve performance. The setting is also a bit deceiving. On the Xbox One X and PlayStation 4 Pro, Gearbox allows Borderlands 3 to run at 3200x1800 for more visual pop, with framerates capped at 30 frames per second (fps). This is the resolution mode. Alternatively, users can prioritize... Read more...
Easter eggs abound in Borderlands 3, and it can be highly satisfying finding them—both in the discovery and in the subsequent themed loot, often in relation to geek culture (like the Rick and Morty boss fight). One of the more recent discoveries is the One Punch Man boss, in reference to the superhero in Japanese anime. Finding and defeating One Punch Man rewards players with a legendary weapon, the One Pump Chump Shotgun. First, however, you need to track down the mini boss and defeat him. So, where can One Punch Man be found? Fortunately, he is pretty easy to find—he's in Lectra City on the planet Promethea. Heading through the doorway in the center of the Meridian Metroplex map... PC gamers know that some games need some serious hardware to be able to run at buttery smooth frame rates. Many have looked forward to the launch of Borderlands 3 for months, but the issue for some players is that they say the frame rate is low and that the game has visual lag. Players who have PCs that exceed the requirements for the game are reporting that they are having problems getting the game to run smoothly all the time. The most obvious fix for low frame rates is to turn the graphics details to low, but the game has nice graphics and fans don't want to compromise. So far Gearbox has made no official comments on the issue or the call for a frame rate fix. It's certainly not uncommon today,... Read more...
Are you getting hyped for Borderlands 3 yet? Fans of the Borderlands franchise who plan to preorder the upcoming installment would be wise to head over to Amazon, at least if planning to play on the PlayStation 4 or Xbox One. That's because Amazon is offering a couple of bonuses, one of which is a $10 promotional credit. The baseline Standard Edition of Borderlands 3 costs $59.99, and that is what you will have to pay upfront to preorder the game. If you are a Prime member, Amazon will email you a $10 promotional credit 30-35 days after the game ships. Yes, it's a bummer having to wait a month, but it beats preordering the game and getting nothing in return. There's also a second bonus offer.... Read more...
The insanity that is Borderlands 3 is coming in just a few weeks, and it promises to deliver plenty of mayhem. What is not insane, however, is the type of PC you will need to play Borderlands 3. We now have a set of minimum and recommended requirements, and if you own a relatively modern PC, playing at 1080p or even 1440p will be doable. Borderlands 3 is not just releasing to PC, of course—it's also coming out on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, and will be a Google Stadia title as well. As far as Windows PCs are concerned, however, here are the minimum and recommended specs... Minimum Specs (1080p) OS: Windows 7/8/10 (latest service pack) CPU: AMD FX-8350 (Intel i5-3570) RAM: 6GB GPU: AMD... Read more...
Borderlands 3 is a highly anticipated co-op shooter that is coming later this year from Gearbox. One of the most oft-requested features gamers have requested of Borderlands 3 is the inclusion of cross-play support. Cross-play has become a hot topic in the gaming industry for quite some time, and Sony -- which has been reticent to jumping in on the bandwagon -- was dragged kicking and screaming into supporting cross-play with Fortnite. Now, Gearbox president Randy Pitchford has chimed in on potential cross-play for Borderlands 3. While many were hoping that support would be available at launch, Pitchford made it abundantly clear that this will unfortunately not be the case in a tweet: Some... Read more...
You still have to wait more than four months before Borderlands 3 releases to retail, though Gearbox Software has come up with a clever way of awarding in-game loot starting right now. How so? It requires installing a Twitch extension and watching prominent streamers play during today's Gameplay Reveal Event. "Hundreds of the biggest streamers will be playing and livestreaming Borderlands 3, and we’re excited to announce that we’ll be debuting the official Borderlands 3 ECHOcast Twitch extension as part of the experience," Gearbox Software said. To take advantage of this opportunity, you have to link your SHiFT and Twitch accounts, and install the official Borderlands 3 ECHOcast extension.... Read more...
There is a ton of hype surrounding the Borderlands franchise right now, with Borderlands 3 set to release on September 13. If you are new to Borderlands or want to revisit some of the previous titles before the next one comes out, good news—Borderlands: The Handsome Collection is free to play this weekend. Well, for some users. The free weekend has already begun and runs until Sunday, April 7, ending at 11:59 pm PT for Xbox One gamers and 10 am PT on the same day for PC players, via Steam. What about PlayStation 4 players? Unfortunately, they get left out of this round. For those who are able to participate, there is a lot of content available. Borderlands: The Handsome Collection includes... Read more...
Mayhem is headed to PCs and game consoles in the form of Borderlands 3, the fourth installment in the popular shooter-looter series developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K. It lands on September 13, which also happens to be a Friday (yes, Friday the 13th!), and will initially be offered exclusively in the Epic Games store. The exclusive availability is sure to disappoint some gamers, though on the bright side, Borderlands 3 will be more broadly available the following April. That essentially means Epic Games is getting a six-month window as the sole distributor of Borderlands 3, before the game is made available on "additional PC digital storefronts." We presume that means Steam and... Read more...
As was anticipated following a recent teaser trailer, Gearbox Software confirmed at PAX East that Borderlands 3 is coming. The developer also posted a new trailer on YouTube, and rather than a vague teaser, we get to see the dystopian setting in cartoon garb, as we have become accustomed to with the Borderlands franchise. Borderlands 3 looks to stick to the same script, in terms of look and feel. This will be the fourth installment in the series (following Borderlands 1 and 2, and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel), and it features some familiar faces. Lilith from the first Borderlands, for example, is in Borderlands 3. In one scene, we see her without her Siren tattoos as she crawls away from the... Read more...
At the risk of jumping the gun, it sure looks like a Borderlands 3 game is finally coming, and very soon. In a new trailer for "Mask of Mayhem" that was posted to YouTube, Gearbox teases a new Borderlands game, without specifically announcing Borderlands 3. An official unveiling is likely to come tomorrow at Pax East, though, during a livestream. The livestream is scheduled for Thursday, March 28, at 2 pm ET (11 am PT). In the description section of the 1m36s trailer, which is titled "Borderlands Teaser Trailer—Mask of Mayhem," Gearbox says, "We aren't done yet!" There is not a lot to parse from the trailer, though from our vantage point, it looks like an entirely new game. We see a bunch... Read more...
Duke Nukem is making yet another return to kick ass and chew bubblegum, and can you guess what he's all out of? That's right, there won't be any gum chomping or bubble blowing, but in Duke Nukem 3D: 20th Anniversary World Tour, there will be plenty of alien carnage, even more than you remember playing when the iconic original shipped two decades ago. For those of us who've been gaming since the days of MS-DOS and before, it's a sobering thought that 20 years has passed since Duke Nukem 3D landed on our beige desktops. It helped popularize the first-person shooter genre, though it's just as memorable for Duke Nukem's over-the-top macho personality. He's at times sexist and often vulgar, but admittedly... 2K Games and Gearbox Software has a magnificent duo of gaming releases to announce today, starting off with Borderlands: The Handsome Collection, which will be available for both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. The set will include both Borderlands 2 and Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, which was released late last year. The Handsome Collection will also come with downloadable content for both titles. While that’s all well and good, there’s an even greater bundle available that will not only bring out your inner child, but will also empty your wallet. If you’re one of the lucky 5,000 people that will have the opportunity to purchase the Borderlands: Claptrap-in-a-Box Edition for Xbox One and... Read more...
