Auction site eBay is kicking off a sales event of its own later today (or right now, depending on when you read this), to counter Amazon's big Prime Day bonanza. In a nod towards self awareness, eBay is calling it a Crash Sale—you know, in case Amazon, most people's first choice when hunting for a deal today, gets overwhelmed by the traffic and crashes. "eBay is primed to deliver exactly what shoppers want during this year’s crash (sale)," said Jay Hanson, VP and COO, Americas. "July has become a massive shopping season, and our summer sales include blockbuster deals that will not disappoint." The auction site is banking on history repeating, and setting itself up to be the beneficiary.... Read more...
If you're looking for a dirt-cheap gaming console for yourself, a family member, or maybe a recent graduate, Newegg is running a fantastic deal on the Xbox One S. Via Newegg's eBay Store, the Xbox One S is currently priced at a reasonable $199. However, if you add the console to your cart and go through the checkout process, the price drops by another $29.85 bringing the total price to a red hot $169.15 (before any applicable sales tax, depending on your state). That's near Black Friday level pricing for the Xbox One S, but it actually gets even better. For select eBay accounts, eBay's equally hot eBay Bucks promotional period is ending today that gives you 8 percent back if you purchase... Read more...
PayPal doesn't have a stellar reputation among sellers thanks to some of its more aggressive payment policies. A recent announcement of changes to its user agreement has angered sellers who use PayPal, which revolves around how refunds are processed. Starting on May 7, 2019, when a seller issues a partial or full refund to a buyer or refunds a donation to a donor the fees originally paid as the seller are no longer returned. PayPal notes that there is still no fee to make a refund. Word of the refund policy change surfaced on Ecommercebytes, and the comments on the announcement are far from happy. Many sellers using PayPal on eBay mention that buyers routinely order something, only to change... Read more...
Apple is a computing and electronics behemoth today, but the company started off much more modestly. Some of its very early computers were handmade and are very rare and valuable today. Last summer, an Apple I computer went up for auction and was expected to bring at least $300,000. Another rare early Apple computer has turned up on eBay, and this one is a Lisa 1 computer that is in working condition. The machine is said to be in working order and one of about 30 devices known to exist today. It boots to LISA OS v1.0 from an external Profile disk drive. The machine does include a pair of Twiggy floppy disc drives, which the seller says haven't been tested and no Twiggy floppies are included with... Read more...

It will be a mulit-year transition as eBay phases out its current arrangement with PayPal. If you were alive in 1985, it was a pretty good year to be around. The movies that came out that year are some of the most popular and classic of '80s films like "The Goonies", "Back to the Future", "Weird Science", and "The Breakfast Club". 1985 also happens to be the year that version 1.0 of Windows rolled out. Someone has dug up a complete version of Windows 1.0 that is signed by no other than Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates. The eBay seller, Badastheblues, claims that the Windows 1.0 box set is an original copy that was handed out at an event in Las Vegas in November of 1985. The description of the software reads, "This is an original copy, dated and signed by Bill Gates, of the first ever... Read more...

Samsung has a few different smartwatches up for grabs, including its latest offering in the wearables category, the Gear S2. The cheapest sale price is just $200.Buydig, an authorized dealer in the United States (which means the warranty is intact), is the one selling it at that price. One of the trends that's gaining steam in the online shopping space is same-day delivery service. By partnering with local stores and warehouses, web retailers can accept online orders and have the product shipped and delivered to the buyer on the same day, which partially takes away the instant gratification advantage that brick-and-mortar stores currently enjoy. However, eBay is going in a different direction, at least for now. Following its breakup with PayPal. eBay announced the retirement of its eBay Now service in the U.S., which had been around for the past three years. It's not a totally unexpected move, as eBay showed signs that it was losing interest, like shutting down its eBay Now... Read more...
An anonymous bidder laid out a cool $91K and change in an online auction to put an extra-special Iron Man Limited Edition Galaxy S6 Edge in their pocket, agreeing to pay 100 times the retail price for the device due to its 66 serial number (in China six is considered a lucky number, and thus 66 is doubly so). Yes, you read that right, and no, it is not the 1st of April, not in the U.S., China, or anywhere else today on our spinning blue rock.  The JD.com auction for the devilishly cool Iron Man Limited Edition Galaxy S666 Edge comes just two weeks after another one of the Edge-y Tony Stark devices sold on eBay for the comparatively low price of $35,600. Specifically,... Read more...
