Sometimes, a work of art hits our culture at just the right time, when it can transcend its medium and become something greater. Such events are exceedingly rare in video games, but we old folks remember Pac-Man Fever and Fred Savage in The Wizard playing Super Mario Bros. 3. More recently, video games have become spectator sports in large part due to StarCraft II, DotA 2, and Overwatch and similar genre game titles. None of those moments found humanity in a time of crisis, however, until Animal Crossing: New Horizons launched on the Nintendo Switch a year ago today. Across the globe, entire countries were in lock-down mode and nobody was quite sure what to do. Tom Nook hit the scene with... Read more...
On January 28th, Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be getting a free update to bring festivity to every player’s island. This update will include “a colorful and feather-filled Festivale event, some heartfelt seasonal additions, new Reactions and new items to purchase.” Also, there are hints for an interesting collaboration on the horizon hinted at in the trailer for the new update below. The biggest part of the update is the Festivale event that begins on February 15th and brings “dancing and flying feathers!” On the first day of Festivale, Dance Pavé will go to your island’s plaza with “confetti and carnival spirit.” Players can capture... It's New Year's Eve but it's also still 2020, the year of the pandemic that we long to put in the rear view. As such, it's very likely a whole lot of people will be celebrating the coming of the new year from the comfort of their own homes. For gamers who have been playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons, there's still a way to go out on the town, however, in virtual bliss at least. Right now and through midnight tonight, Tom Nook and Isabelle are hosting the New Year's Eve event with free gifts, fun seasonal items, and a countdown to the new year.  We'll start off with the free stuff. Turn on the Nintendo Switch and wander on over to the town plaza in front of Resident Services (which is... Read more...
Playing the Stalk Market in Animal Crossing: New Horizons is never a sure thing. Some weeks, you buy as high as 120 bells a piece from Daisy, only to sell them to the Nook Boys on Saturday afternoon for a measly 60 bells a pop. Other weeks, players can make serious bank not just by selling at high prices, but by opening up their island to visitors. However, thanks to a partnership between Nintendo and Ally Bank, that money is guaranteed to rock your ACNH world.  Ally Bank and Nintendo put together a sponsored island with a set, guaranteed price of 1,000 bells per turnip. Obviously, since it's Sunday, the Nook's Cranny there is not buying turnips, but it can be accessed via Turnip Exchange... Read more...
It's a new month, and that means there are new creatures to catch in Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the Nintendo Switch. As summer heats up, a handful of new bugs and fish will appear, ripe for catching and giving them to Blathers as donations to the museum or as gifts for that one villager who really seems to like bugs (for me it's Cube). Also don't forget to hop in the ocean for a quick dip, because there's something new at the bottom of the sea, too.  The critters listed in our table below include active hours, location, and hemisphere, so you know the best times and places to grab them. You'll need your rod, net, and wetsuit to catch everything, so craft it up or hit Nook's Cranny... Read more...
Animal Crossing: New Horizons for the Nintendo Switch is the gift that keeps on giving. The latest free content release is the Summer Update that launched on Wednesday, and now you can swim with the fish. But before you dive into the ocean, you've got to be dressed for the occasion.  Unlike most of the clothing in Animal Crossing New Horizons that comes from the Able Sisters' tailor shop, you'll have to head on over to Nook's Cranny with 3,000 Bells in your pocket to pick up a horizontally-striped wet suit. If you don't mind waiting a day and would rather spend Nook Miles, you can pick up one of several other wet suit styles from the Nook Stop ATM.  Go For A Swim In ACNH Once... Read more...
