Logitech set off a nuclear bomb among its customer base when it was widely revealed yesterday that Harmony Link devices will be bricked in March 2018. There is nothing physically wrong with the devices, and they currently function normally, but Logitech indicated that an expiring technology certificate license was the reason for the slamming the door on the device. Needless to say, the negative reaction from Harmony Link owners came swiftly, with many of them vowing to never buy Logitech products again and many others going off on long, profanity-laced tirades. Once news of the impending forced... Read more...
When customer purchase electronics, they typically expect for those devices to have a long useful life as long as they are kept in good condition. Those devices might lose warranty support and functionality updates as the years pass, but their functionality is typically not impeded. Logitech, however, is drawing the ire of customers after it announced that the Harmony Link will effectively be bricked in March 2018. The Harmony Link was first introduced back in 2011 and was a popular add-on for those that bought into the Harmony family of universal remote controls. The Harmony Link allows customers... Virtual reality has an enormous amount of potential, and can deliver an equally enormous amount of fun. Sometimes, though, being plucked entirely from reality isn't ideal. While for some games, using only the wireless controllers is needed, not all VR games need to be played while standing. In those cases, where a keyboard and mouse is still the preferred go-to for control, VR can complicate things by, well, not letting you see those peripherals. Logitech has come to the rescue with a solution, and it's called Logitech Bridge. Note that it's not a brand-new keyboard purpose-built for VR... it's... Read more...
Trackballs were all the rage a couple of decades back, when mice weren’t nearly as accurate, maintenance-free, or ergonomic as today’s offerings. Logitech was a leader in the space back then, and had a handful of popular trackball designs in its line-up, including – my favorite -- the Trackman Marble, but over time their popularity waned and mice got infinitely better. Although trackballs never really went away completely, Logitech made some noise recently with the introduction of the MX Ergo. The new Logitech MX Ergo is a modern trackball with increased accuracy, a comfortable design, and lag-free... Read more...
For many years Logitech made one of the few alternatives to a mouse for people who had some sort of wrist or hand issue like Carpal Tunnel syndrome (or folks who just hated a mouse). That alternative was the Trackball and there were several versions to choose from for users. About a decade ago, Logitech vacated that space leaving those needing an alternative to a normal mouse without many options. However, Logitech has launched a new trackball and that new product is called the MX Ergo. Logitech notes that this is its very first adjustable trackball designed from the ground up to support comfort... Read more...
Logitech today added a couple of new and cordless products to its gaming peripheral lineup, the G603 LIGHTSPEED Wireless Gaming Mouse and G613 LIGHTSPEED Wireless Mechanical Gaming Keyboard. To supplement the launch, it also introduced an oversized mouse surface, the G840 XL Gaming Mouse Pad.G603 Wireless Gaming MouseLet's start with the mouse. The G603 features Logitech's brand new High Efficiency Rated Optical (or HERO) sensor, which it invented with an eye on performance and power efficiency (leading to longer lasting battery life). If you ask Logitech, the company will tell you that its HERO... Read more...
Logitech, one of the biggest brands in the PC gaming peripheral market, has acquired Astro Gaming, a popular player in the audio headset sector for both PC and console gamers. The $85 million all-cash acquisition brings together two major brands, both with solid reputations among gamers in their own right. By joining forces, Logitech and Astro Gaming become the top seller of headsets, mice, keyboards, and streaming webcams for PCs and consoles. Astro Gaming can be considered a pioneer in the gaming audio headset space. The company is best known for its A40 and A50 headsets aimed at professional... Read more...
If there is a downside to mechanical keyboards, it is that manufacturers have taken advantage of the category's popularity with inflated price tags. That is a shame because everyone who types should trash their squishy membrane plank and buy a keyboard with mechanical key switches. The good news is things are improving. Logitech, for example, just announced the G413, a sub-$100 mechanical keyboard for gamers that uses its fancy Romer-G key switches. We haven't played with one in person yet, but based on the press photos Logitech gets kudos for building a normal looking plank. By that we mean it... Read more...
ESports is becoming a big business in the gaming world, and players are looking for every possible edge to become the next megastar. For anyone that has begrudgingly sat through a PowerPoint presentation against your will (that should be all of us), the act can be just as much of a downer for the person doing the presenting as it is for a glossy-eyed audience. The folks at Logitech, however, are looking to take some of the monotony out of traditional presentations with the unveiling of the new Spotlight Presentation Remote that also delivers some slick controls and features for maximum presentation impact. Logitech hopes that Spotlight will install confidence in its handler, allowing you to both magnify and highlight on-screen... Read more...
If you’re a diehard video streamer, Logitech has just announced a much-improved successor to its incredibly popular C920. The C920 webcam has been with us for nearly five years, and it has served with distinction during that time, but the new C922 Pro is here to carry the streaming torch. While it keeps the same form-factor that served the C920 so well, the C922 can capture 1080p video at 30 frames per second and 720p at 60 frames per second (the C920 was limited to 30 frames per second at 720p). The performance upgrade will definitely be welcome to Twitch and YouTube streamers as well as vloggers... Read more...
A good controller can really make or break a gaming experience, and Logitech is working to expand the breadth of its controller offerings. The company just acquired Saitek and its line of line of flight, farm and space simulation game controllers. Logitech offers three reasons for the acquisition. First, according to Logitech, “these products are just great.” Saitek products are the “go-to’s” for games such as Elite Dangerous, Eve Valkyrie, Star Citizen, Microsoft Flight Simulator, and Farm Simulator. Logitech claims that they have even see Saitek fans in their own forums. Second, Logitech believes... Read more...
Why wield multiple keyboards for different devices when you can have one that works with them all? That's the idea behind Logitech's K780 Multi-Device Wireless Keyboard (just K780 from here on out), a fully-equipped PC plank with a 10-key pad that also works on mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets, all connected at the same time. Simultaneous connections on a keyboard can be a bit tricky. To prevent what you're typing on your PC from appearing on your iPad and Galaxy S7 handset (or whatever tablet and phone you're rocking), there are three Easy-Switch buttons that let you toggle between... It's still relatively early in the smart home movement that's been making headway into the mainstream market and that means there's a ton of untapped potential for creative and innovative solutions. One of them was just introduced by Logitech—it's the Pop Home Switch, or basically a programmable button that can control multiple smart home devices. You can program up to three different action sequences in each switch, which in turn are initiated by a single press, double press, or a long press. For example, you might program a single press to turn lighting on or off, a double press to lock the doors,... Read more...
