Dell Precision M3800 Mobile Workstation Review

Battery Life

In Dell's mission to deliver the thinnest and lightest 15-inch mobile workstation on the market, the OEM sacrificed the convenience of a removable battery, which can come in handy when you're stuck out in the field for an extended period. That said, there are two options when configuring the M3800 -- 6-cell 61Wh or a 6-cell 91Wh.

To measure the Precision M3800's battery life in a controlled benchmark environment, we turned to Battery Eater Pro. This test is designed to tax a laptop’s resources to give a feel for how long the laptop’s battery will last under heavy use. For the test, we set the laptop's display to 50 percent brightness and enabled Wi-Fi.

Dell Precision M3800 Battery Life on Web

The Precision M3800 may look like an Ultrabook, but its battery life isn't all that spectacular compared to consumer-based laptops. We only managed 107 minutes, or 13 minutes shy of two hours in our grueling Battery Eater Pro benchmark, and only 325 minutes in our web browsing test. If you're doing heavy graphics work or planning to be out in the field for an extended time, you'll want to make sure there's an outlet nearby.
