Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro Review: Battery Life, Charging And Our Review Conclusion

Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro Battery And Charging

This device supports speedy 65W charging, and it comes with the necessary wall plug. That's nice to see when most OEMs are cutting back on accessories. The plug uses USB-PD and PPS to reach this speed, so it should be easy to find more chargers capable of maxing out the ROG Phone 8 Pro. Asus says you can fully charge the phone in 39 minutes, which is within a few minutes of what we've seen in testing. Suffice it to say, the ROG Phone 8 Pro charges very quickly.

You might have noticed that the ROG Phone 8 has a smaller battery than last year's phone. It's now 5,500mAh versus 6,000mAh last year. This was a necessary concession to make the phone less enormous, and it was probably a smart tradeoff. While the battery is smaller, the longevity is impressive.

The Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro is one of the highest performers in our battery life test. The new, more efficient Snapdragon chip pushes battery life more than an hour beyond the ROG Phone 7's limit. Only the Moto Edge+ (2023) and RedMagic 8 Pro last longer.

Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro Review Conclusion: Gamer's Delight

Any way you slice it, the Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro is a ludicrously powerful phone. Heck, it's so blazing fast that it can literally burn you. If all that matters to you is having the fastest Android phone available, then the Asus ROG Phone 8 Pro will be an easy choice. Not only does it have the latest Snapdragon chip that will power many of 2024's best smartphones (including the upcoming Galaxy S24), it lets you tune the performance and even attach a fan to eke out the most speed possible.

It may not look like your typical gaming phone, but that's what the ROG Phone 8 Pro is at its core. When you fire up a game, the ROG Phone 8 Pro will show its true colors. You'll have the best visual experience possible, no matter what title. Asus bundles numerous quality-of-life software features for more convenient gaming, and the phone's shoulder buttons will make you an absolute terror in games like Call of Duty Mobile and Fortnite. This is probably the best mobile gaming experience you'll get outside of a dedicated gaming handheld

If you're not the type to unwind with an hour or two of mobile gaming at the end of the day, there's still a few reasons to consider the ROG Phone 8. Though you can spend less to get phones with better cameras, displays, and update prospects perhaps, performance enthusiasts will enjoy what's on tap here.

Even for gamers, the price tag is going to be a hurdle, however. The ROG Phone 8 Pro starts at $1,199, and the version we tested with 24GB of RAM runs a whopping $1,499, although it does come with a cooling fan for that price. And if you really want to push the phone, you'll want that fan. It won't make the ROG Phone 8 Pro that much faster, but it'll keep the chassis at a comfortable temperature. If you're an Android phone gamer, the ROG Phone 8 continues both ASUS' and Qualcomm's lineage of sustained performance.
