The UMPC market is hot right now, thanks to innovations from numerous companies including Intel, VIA, Asus, HP, and many others.  VIA in particular has been focused on the low power, ultra mobile segment, as is evidenced by the company's current C7M and upcoming Isaiah processors, and their NanoBook UMD reference design.  And today, VIA is announcing a new addition to their portfolio of UMPC reference designs, dubbed the OpenBook. With less than two weeks to go until the start of Computex 2008, the whirlwind of product announcements and rumored announcements continue to fly. The latest of which is that ASUS is ready to show off the Eee PC’s desktop cousin. “The only details that have been delivered to use at present are that it contains a 160GB Hard Drive, 2GB ram, will run Linux OS as found on the EeePC. MSI has just announced a brand new ultra small form factor PC, dubbed the Titan 700.  The tiny machine features a 2.0GHz VIA C7 processor, a mini-ITX motherboard, and a compact case with a volume of only 3.1L. Futuremark has just officially unveiled the latest version of their 3DMark benchmark suite, 3DMark Vantage.  Like PCMark Vantage which was released a few months ago, this latest version of 3DMark was designed for testing Windows Vista-based systems.  This latest version of the 3DMark, however, is specifically bound to Windows Vista because it uses some advanced visual technologies that are only available with DirectX 10, which you may know isn't available on previous versions of Windows. On Monday Skype, announced new subscription plans that allow flat-rate unlimited calling to 34 countries. It should be noted that for Skype defines unlimited as 10,000 minutes / month; after that standard fees apply.  Of course, 10,000 minutes equates to about 5 hours a day, so what the heck?The company said it was offering unlimited calls to landline and cell phones in the U.S. and Canada for $2.95 a month.It also offers unlimited calls to phones in 34 countries including Australia, China, Germany, Japan and the United Kingdom, for $9.95 per month, it said.Skype users in Europe can choose from unlimited plans ranging from 2.95 euros to 8.95 euros a month depending on the destination of... Intel is formally announcing a brand new processor today that it hopes will drive the next generation of mobile Internet devices.  Intel’s new platform for MIDs is called Menlow. And whereas the previous generation McCaslin platform was found in ultra low-voltage notebooks, Menlow is the processor and chipset combination you’ll find in future navigation devices, Internet tablets, video players, and gaming handhelds. The scoop wire was running late tonight and these shots of Asus' upcoming Eee Desktop made their way to our inbox just now, so we thought we'd give you the digital relay on the skinny... literally.  Though it's hard to get a sense of size here, this thing is obviously svelte.  We don't have firm details but since this is an Asus "Eee" product, we can assume it follows the same mantra of "Easy to Learn, Easy to Work, Easy to Play".  Maybe a beefed up Linux distro and application bundle?  We'll see...   We should caution you that these are not "official" pictures per se.  In fact, we can't really comment on the source of these pics except to say that they are indeed...
