We've got a bit of show-and-tell for you here this morning.  You might recall recent announcements of a new digital display interface, dubbed DisplayPort by VESA, the Video Electronics Standards Association.  This new interface will supplant DVI and VGA connections eventually and its micropacket architecture offers significantly more bandwidth with multi-monitor support over a single cable.  Like HDMI, a DisplayPort connection can carry 8-channel 24-bit audio, but also offers a dedicated auxiliary link for control communications of things like panel I/O and microphone connections.  There are hundreds of big brand name... Late last year, AMD-ATI introduced their first Stream processor, announcing their efforts in  GP-GPU (General Purpose GPU) computing for scientific, engineering and other compute-intensive applications.  Based on the RD580 architecture, the new card fell somewhat silently on the market and we didn't hear much more on the topic until now.  Late last week AMD unveiled their next generation Stream Processor cards, aptly dubbed the FireStream 9170, which is a combination of AMD's FireGL Pro Graphics branding, along with their Stream processor moniker.  This time around the card is built on a 55nm GPU architecture, most likely a close kin to AMD's RV670 GPU that we'll be show-casing... Microsoft is set to unveil the second generation of the Zune tomorrow, including the first flash-based Zunes.According to sources close to the situation, both Microsoft chairman Bill Gates and Design and Development chief J Allard will be on hand for the event. Version 8 of Lotus Notes and Domino was released today by IBM.  As well as new features, a major focus of the latest release is the modernization of the user interface, which some claim has been stuck in the Stone Age, and which has annoyed users to the point that Notes anti-fan sites have been created. The changes are the result of building the Version 8 client on top of the company's Eclipse-based rich client platform, according to IBM officials.
