Samsung is in the smart assistant business with Bixby, which has so far been integrated into its smartphones, like the Galaxy S10. Samsung had hoped to integrated Bixby into a smart speaker which was dubbed Galaxy Home and was announced a year ago (and has still not been released). Samsung has a second model that is rumored to be coming soon called the Galaxy Home Mini, and a beta test is set to start. Galaxy Home Mini Samsung fans in South Korea will be the first to get their hands on the Galaxy Home Mini device with a beta test said to be underway there right now. As the name implies, the Home Mini is a smaller version of the Galaxy Home that announced along with the Galaxy Note 9. As of today,... Read more...
The global smart speaker market is large and growing as more embrace the idea of interacting with a digital assistant by voice. As the global smart speaker market heats up, manufacturers are vying to be the top name in the segment. The two top companies had been Amazon and Google, but a major change has taken place near the top with one company coming up fast, and that company is Baidu. Baidu is a search engine that has been dominating the Chinese market for years. It has surpassed Google in the global smart speaker market taking 17.3% the market with 4.5 million smart speakers shipped during the second quarter of 2019. The growth rate for Baidu was massive, with a recent Canalys report pegging... Read more...
Sure, you can summon Alexa to order a pizza, but if you want a beer, you will have to get up and march your backside to the refrigerator, and get it yourself. Might that change one day? Who knows, but perhaps things are trending in that direction. There is talk of Amazon developing an Alexa-enabled robot that could follow users around the home, like a puppy (but without the pee puddles in its wake). It is called Vesta, and is it is supposedly one of the things being developed by Amazon's Lab126 research and development division located in Sunnyvale, California. Whether Vesta actually sees the light of day or not remains to be seen, but at the very least, the robot is something Amazon is pouring... Read more...
Late last month we saw Samsung's Galaxy Home Mini take a visit to the FCC and we wondered where the full-size Galaxy Home device, which was first announced last year, was hiding. Word has surfaced out of Korea that the Galaxy Home has been delayed again until Q3 2019. The device was initially expected to ship back in 2018. Samsung Electronics' Consumer Electronics CEO Kim Hyun-suk said this week according to a report by The Korea Herald. The Galaxy Home is Samsung's entry into the booming smart speaker market and will be the hub for the company's smart home functions. Galaxy Home will run Samsung's Bixby assistant and was initially unveiled at the Galaxy Note 9 Unpacked event in August 2018.... Read more...
A new report is out that looks at the smart speaker market in the U.S. for 2018, and the market grew significantly year-over-year. Samsung has not hidden the fact that it plans to launch a smart speaker with Bixby integration called the Galaxy Home, and according to its product page, it is "coming soon." How soon, you ask? Samsung's mobile boss DJ Koh indicated it will launch by April, though he did not give an exact release date. There was no mention of the Galaxy Home during yesterday's Unpacked event, in which Samsung unveiled a bunch of Galaxy S10 handsets, the Galaxy Fold, a few new smartwatches, and wireless Galaxy Buds. It was a pretty robust event even without the Galaxy Home being a part of the product bonanza. After the event, however, CNET said it spoke with DJ Koh, who indicated that the Galaxy Home is headed... Read more...

Siri came in second place understanding 99.6%... Read more...
The market for smart speakers is growing at a steady clip, and also evolving—some of the latest versions have a built-in screen, like LG's Smart Display. We had a chance to review that particular model this past summer and were impressed with its excellent audio quality and Google Assistant integration. Now several months later, LG just launched a newer model with a Black Friday discount. LG's new XBOOM AI ThinQ (model WK9) smart display wields a pair of speakers on each side of the integrated 8-inch HD touchscreen. It's overflowing with features, such as a built-in camera for making video calls, built-in Chromecast support, and of course Google Assistant integration so you can instruct... Read more...

Its diameter measures 116mm, its height is 218mm, and the device weighs roughly 900 grams. Its measurements and design are similar to the Amazon Echo Plus. Image courtesy Android Central The Huawei AI Cube features 4 microphones, a 15-watt Mono Speaker, and Far Field Voice Recognition. If you are wondering why companies like Amazon and Google put so much time and energy into smart speakers, just look at the numbers. Sales of voice-activated speakers will add an incremental $1.6 billion to the US technology industry through 2019, in part because they tap into the growing smart home market, according to data by The NPD Group. “While many new households will explore the smart home experience in the next two years, propelled by the growing ownership of voice-activated speakers, the biggest and best opportunity for retail may remain in encouraging the installed smart home base to make incremental device purchases, and to then provide services to help consumers fully leverage... The Lenovo Smart display is the first in an assault of Google Assistant-enabled devices set to hit the market this year. They will take on Amazon's Echo Show in a battle for smart home assistant technology, with not only a set of ears, but also a set of eyes and a display face to complete the experience. Priced at $249.99 for a 10-inch version and $199.99 for an 8-inch variant, with identical hardware specs except for the display, these are a new breed of smart home devices that have the potential to give Google and its OEM partners a leg-up on Amazon. Since they're part of the "Android Things" ecosystem, Android users will have direct access to their data and media on Google's many... Read more...
There are rumblings from one of Apple's suppliers that the company is supposedly planning to release a new HomePod model with Beats branding attached to it. You might recall that Apple acquired Beats for a whopping $3.2 billion just over four years ago, though for the most part is hasn't really integrated the popular brand into its other products and services. Perhaps that's about to change. We're taking the rumor with a dose of skepticism, though as the story goes, the new HomePod model with Beats branding is to be priced at $199. That's significantly cheaper than Apple's current HomePod, which sells for $349 on its website and is available in white or space gray. It's not entirely clear how... Read more...
Facebook is in the midst the most ferocious user backlash it has ever faced after its data privacy policies (or lack there of) have come to light. Much of the user outrage focuses on Cambridge Analytica's capturing and use of data on a huge number of Facebook users. Facebook is also facing ire over allegedly harvesting Android call and SMS data for years, something Facebook denies. Because of all this negative reaction from users, people familiar with the matter claim that the social media giant has decided to skip the launch of any new home products at its developer conference in May. The new hardware products were to include connected speakers with digital-assistant and video chat capabilities.... Read more...
