Huawei Unveils AI Cube Alexa-Powered Smart Speaker With Built In 4G WiFi Router
But don’t let the name fool you -- the Huawei AI Cube is a cylinder, not an actual cube. Its diameter measures 116mm, its height is 218mm, and the device weighs roughly 900 grams. Its measurements and design are similar to the Amazon Echo Plus.
The Huawei AI Cube features 4 microphones, a 15-watt Mono Speaker, and Far Field Voice Recognition. Like other smart speakers on the market, users will be able to play music, control other smart devices in their home, and access all of the skills that Alexa has to offer. Huawei also promises that users will enjoy high quality audio. The AI Cube includes a 400ml sound cavity, an aluminum diaphragm, and Huawei’s audio technology “Histen”.
What sets the AI Cube apart from its competitors is its inclusion of a 4G WiFi router. Users will be able to plug in a 4G SIM card and access LTE Category 6 speeds. Huawei noted that the AI Cube is also compatible with 802.11ac WiFi and boats speeds of up to 1,200Mbps. It is important to note that the AI Cube does not have a battery and is therefore not easily transportable.
Huawei also announced its new Locator, “a powerful small form factor location beacon”. The device provides its real-time location and buzzes when a connected smart device is nearby. The device is intended to help travelers keep an eye on their children, pets, and valuable items across international borders.
The Huawei AI Cube will be available in Europe just in time for the upcoming holiday season.
Netgear recently announced a similar smart speaker as well. The Orbi Voice Smart Speaker and WiFi Mesh Satellite with Built-in Amazon Alexa can serve as a mesh hotspot and expands the reach of any Orbi WiFi system to up to 4,500 square feet. It incorporates Harman Kardon premium sound and is great for listening to audiobooks and podcasts and streaming music from a variety of apps.
