Lenovo introduced their Moto Z family last year with high hopes of being something different. The evolution of smartphone design has been more iterative than innovate in recent years from most manufacturers. The Moto Z smartphones, however, offered modularity to allow the phones to adapt to a user’s in-the-moment needs. The Moto Mods concept is an intriguing one, but was ultimately met with mixed reviews. It is certainly the best execution we have seen to date with a growing selection of mods and simple plug-and-play operation, but many users are put off by needing to keep the phone-sized mods... We've reported on a few occasions that Lenovo is working on a retro throwback laptop that channels some of the looks and cool features that ThinkPad fans of yore will remember fondly. Fast forward a couple months and an actual picture (not a render) has turned up out of China claiming to show the notebook in the flesh. The image certainly doesn't give up much in the way of detail, showing only the corner and logo, but it is claimed to be the retro anniversary ThinkPad. While the image has turned up in China, word is that the "ThinkPad 25" has also been found at a German certification site.... Read more...
Lenovo had its name drug through the mud back in 2015, and its problems were no doubt self-inflicted. The company was caught preinstalling Superfish adware on hundreds of thousands of its computers that were sold to customers, which was part of an effort to line its pockets with an additional revenue stream. However, it was soon discovered that Superfish also opened customers up to attacks from hackers and exposed their private information. Today, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has concluded its investigation into the company, and has essentially handed it a slap on the wrist. Superfish’s crown... Read more...

Motorola may have just launched its Moto Z2 Force flagship, but it hasn’t forgotten about its “lesser” models. That leads us to the Moto X4, which has been leaked again via a press render. What we have here is clearly a handsome mid-range smartphone that doesn’t embrace the minimal display bezel design trend that is becoming more commonplace. Despite the bezels, we’re sure that there are plenty of people that prefer the front placement of the fingerprint reader on Moto X4 smartphone versus the rear placement that is necessitated by designs where the display takes up the full face of the smartphone.... A sometimes unfortunate thing about loving a vendor's hardware is the fact that the same kind of care that makes you love the device itself might not be shown towards the software solution. Sometimes, too much care can be given, resulting in a bloated OS that can become sluggish. Many vendors have come to their senses over the years, as we've seen a trend of more and more companies decide to go with stock Android on their devices - or at least stock Android with minor modifications. We now find out that Lenovo is the latest company to jump on this bandwagon of clean OSes, as its upcoming K8... Read more...
