The information surrounding the iPhone 12 family has been leaking at a furious pace in the past few weeks. Today, however, we're getting our most detailed look at one of the most important components of Apple's new, four-phone lineup: the displays. Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) has confirmed details that we've already gleaned on the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro, including the fact that the former will be available in 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch sizes, while the latter will be available in 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch sizes. The new information comes with respect to who will supply these panels, and what resolution each will carry. According to DSCC, the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 will feature... Read more...
Each passing week has brought us new information on Apple's upcoming iPhone 12 family, and this week is no different. According to previous leaks, we're fairly confident that the 2020 smartphone lineup will include 5.4-inch and 6.1-inch iPhone 12 models along with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro models The latest leak claims that Apple will finally increase the base storage on its smartphones from 64GB to 128GB. Apple has notoriously been stingy when it comes to base storage on its devices (the latest iPad still comes saddled with 32GB for the entry-level SKU), and it's a slap in the face to customers paying $999 for a current-generation iPhone 11 Pro to only get 64GB. Apple's... Read more...
The rumormill has been working overtime when it comes to the iPhone 12 family, as this is about the time that leaks start coming more into focus as production gears up. This time around, we're getting some clarification on the smallest member of the upcoming iPhone 12 family: the 5.4-inch model. According to Filip Koroy of EverythingApplePro, he was "completely wrong on the size of the 5.4-inch" on his previous iPhone 12 renders, adding "ours was way too big". He went on to indicate that his latest mockups have been reimagined using dimensions from Japanese website Macotakara. According to Macotakara, the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 will truly offer flagship performance in a pint-sized... Read more...
Apple earlier this month gave a short in the arm to its mid-range smartphone lineup with the iPhone SE. Putting a current-generation A13 Bionic SoC into the chassis of the popular iPhone 8 form-factor at the $399 price point has proven to be a popular move for the company. Now that the iPhone SE introduction has come and gone, everyone is turning their attention to how the upcoming iPhone 12 family with square up with respect to pricing and features. These will be the first smartphones from Apple with 5G connectivity, so many are rightfully concerned that we might see yet another price hike from Apple (as we've seen from Android OEMs like Samsung and OnePlus). That might not actually... Read more...
If this were a normal year, Apple's upcoming iPhone 12 family of smartphones would be announced in early September and would begin shipping later that month. However, due to the complexities of developing a product and procuring components during the coronavirus pandemic, it appears that the debut and launch will actually be pushed back.  This news comes to us courtesy of reliable Apple leaker Ming-Chi Kuo, who is giving his latest guidance on the iPhone 12, the iPhone SE and the alleged iPhone SE Plus. According to Kuo, the iPhone 12 will come in a total of 4 versions, up from 3 on the current iPhone 11 family. There will reportedly be at least 5.4-inch, 6.1-inch, and 6.7-inch... Read more...
Is the CAD render below our first good look at the upcoming iPhone 12 Pro Max? It very well could be if accurate, and the details from this latest leak confirms information that was first revealed earlier this week in a separate report. It was previously reported the iPhone 12 Pro would feature an exterior design more akin to the iPad Pro family with the soft corners being tossed in favor of flat sides and hard edges. To our eyes, it looks like a mix of both iPad Pro and iPhone 5S/iPhone SE styling cues, which date all the way back to 2010’s iPhone 4. We also see a much smaller display notch for the earpiece speaker, Face ID hardware, and selfie camera. It’s also reported that... Read more...
Yesterday, we brought you news of a rear camera pod redesign for Apple’s upcoming iPhone 12 Pro family. In addition to the triple cameras that were introduced with the iPhone 11 Pro family, there's also a new LiDAR sensor and a centrally-mounted LED flash for a more balanced appearance. Today, we're getting a glimpse at the front of the smartphone for the first time. The first thing that stands out is that the display notch surrounding the earpiece speaker and Face ID hardware is much smaller this time around. The notch was one of the defining features of the iPhone X when it debuted in 2017, and was quickly copied by Android manufacturers. However, Android OEMs then swiftly pivoted... Read more...
Apple's upcoming iPhone 12 Pro Max and iPhone 12 Pro might separate themselves from the regular iPhone 12 by incorporating a 3D time of flight (ToF) sensor into the mix. There will likely be other differences between the Pro models and regular model, but if a breakdown of Apple's iOS 14 code is any indication, the ToF sensor will be one of the major distinctions. An increasingly number of flagship phones have been adopting 3D ToF cameras. They are not used for taking pictures in the traditional sense, but to map out a 3D space. Using a light signal, a ToF camera can provide more accurate depth mapping compared to an ordinary camera lens, with distance and volume measurements. The folks at 9To5Mac... Read more...
