iPhone 11 Apple was under fire this past week for tracking iPhone 11 users’ locations even when that setting was disabled. They have now promised that an update is on its way. iOS 13.3 will likely be released next week and contain a fix for unwanted location tracking. Security researcher Brian Krebs or “KrebsOnSecurity” recently discovered that Apple’s range of iPhone 11 devices will occasionally report a user’s location. These intermittent pings occur even if a user has diabled location tracking. A video captured the odd behavior. Apple originally responded that this was “expected behavior” and refused to offer any further details. Apple then “came... Read more...
In what a security researcher called "one of the more curious behaviors" of Apple's iPhone 11 Pro, and perhaps the entire iPhone 11 lineup, the latest generation iPhone can and does track users in some instances even disabling Location Services for each individual app. As far as Apple is concerned, there is nothing wrong with this. While Apple might not see anything wrong, however, the continued tracking is seemingly not in line with what the company states in its privacy policy. The policy explains that if Location Services is enabled, the iPhone will sometimes "send geo-tagged locations of nearby Wi-Fi hotspots and cell towers (where supported by a device) in an anonymous and encrypted form... When Apple launched its new iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro smartphones back in September, the company impressed with its blazing fast A13 Bionic SoC, incredibly bright display, and top-notch image quality from its new dual- and triple camera arrays. More importantly, Apple managed to boost battery life by up to 5 hours compared to the previous generation models without a significant increase in thickness. For those that still aren't satisfied with the battery life improvements (+1, +4, and +5 hours respectively on the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max), then Apple has just officially launched new Smart Battery Cases for all three smartphones. Like previous generation Smart Battery... Read more...
Smartphone users have become used to smartphones that only offer marginal performance gains over past models with each new release. Apple's new iPhone 11 family has better cameras, vastly better battery life, and the promise of better performance over their predecessors. In a new video posted to YouTube, the iPhone 11 Pro is being pitted against the iPhone XS and iPhone X to see how the processor inside each of the three generations performs compared to the other generations. EverythingApplePro puts all three of the devices on the screen at the same time with the generation marked in the bottom left corner in the early tests. The iPhone X is notably slower on games like Fortnite, lagging well... Read more...
When Apple announced its iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro smartphones earlier this month, the upgraded cameras were perhaps the most talked about new feature. The iPhone 11 (the successor to the iPhone XR) now features two cameras, while the iPhone 11 Pro/Pro Max (successors to the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max) come with three cameras. But equally important is the SoC that is powering the smartphones: the A3 Bionic, which is comprised of over 8.5 billion transistors. This new SoC is based on second-generation 7nm process tech, with a heavy emphasis on performance-per-watt. The folks over at Wired were able to talk with Phil Schiller, Apple's SVP of Worldwide Marketing, and... Read more...
For the most part, camera performance is at the forefront of smartphone design these days. Handsets are becoming increasingly sophisticated with regards to photography, and interestingly enough, there is chatter of Apple possible baking in a dedicated amount of RAM to the camera array on its iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 11 Pro. The possible revelation comes by way of app developer Steve Troughton-Smith. Based on some Xcode digging, Steve noted on Twitter that all models of the iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPhone 11 Pro have 4GB of RAM, and not 6GB as had been previously rumored, from a certification database listing. Steve followed this up by saying he's been hearing "conflicting things" about the RAM... Read more...
The iPhone 11 family of smartphones were announced last week, and despite being official, there has been some controversy over the specifications of some of the smartphones. Specifically, there had been a rumor that started with listings in a certification database that suggested the iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max smartphones had 6GB of RAM inside. That rumor contradicted benchmarks of the new iPhone models that had turned up and listed only 4GB of RAM. Steve Troughton-Smith discovered this morning inside Xcode that all versions of the iPhone 11 feature 4GB of RAM, which puts the iPhone models down in RAM compared to many Android devices. That means that the iPhone 11 models carry over with the same... Read more...
Leading up to the launch of the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro, there were widespread reports that the phones would include two-way wireless charging. However, the feature was never mentioned during their public debut on September 10th. Today, Apple watcher Sonny Dickson confirmed suspicions that hardware to enable two-way or bilateral charging is indeed still embedded in the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro smartphones. However, it has been disabled by software for some unknown reason.  On the eve of the iPhone 11 launch, respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated that the feature had been canceled. Given that this revelation came so close to the official launch, it would be seemingly impossible... Read more...
Have you ever heard of trypophobia? Many probably haven't heard the word before, but it's a term said to have been coined in 2005 on reddit that describes a condition where people have an aversion to seeing clusters of small holes. People who have this condition say that the new iPhone 11 Pro's rear camera array is triggering the condition. The rear of the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max have three camera lenses in a sideways triangular formation with a round LED flash above and a microphone hole under the lens on the right. Scientist Dr. Geoff Cole from the University of Essex was part of a scientific study on the condition and said that trypophobia is a real thing. He notes that everyone... Read more...
Apple is a company that is overly obsessed with making its devices thinner and lighter from one generation to the next. While having a thin device is no doubt nice, there are diminishing returns when it comes time to boost battery life -- something that all users can appreciate. Apple is reversing course with its iPhone 11 Pro family – which was announced yesterday -- and we're actually seeing some pretty substantial gains in battery life compared to iPhone XS family. When Apple launched the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max in 2018, it said that battery life had improved by 30 minutes over the iPhone X for the former, and by one hour and 30 minutes for the latter.  In the case... Apple had its big keynote address for this year, and the highly anticipated iPhone 11 family has been revealed. As expected, there are three new models that have been announced, which are successors for the iPhone XR, iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max respectively. Meet the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. Let's start off with the iPhone 11, which is the least inexpensive of the bunch. It features a 6.1-inch LCD (like its predecessor) along with a revised (and faster) version of Face ID. The screen resolution remains the same (1792x868), but Apple has made some slight modifications to the panel to make improve colors and overall performance. Inside, Apple is using a new A13 Bionic SoC,... Read more...
