Lenovo is the world’s number one PC maker, and the Chinese OEM plans on keeping that honor for years to come. In an effort to stay ahead of the competition and respond to ever-changing customer tastes, Lenovo has announced a sweeping revamp of numerous products across its ideapad and YOGA product lines, all of which come preloaded with Windows 10 (or the older Windows 7 if you prefer). First up is a new addition to Lenovo’s expansive convertible family: the ideapad MIIX 700. This device features a spacious 12-inch display along with Intel’s newly announced, Skylake-based Core m7 processors. The 2-in-1 convertible features Lenovo’s jewel-like dual watchband hinges, which allows the device to easily... Read more...
If you’re reading this on a Lenovo IdeaPad, you might want to unplug that power cord and take a look at it. Lenovo launched a voluntary recall of power cords for its IdeaPad laptops today, citing the potential for “overheating, sparking, melting and burning.” Look for "LS-15" on the cord to identify Lenovo's recalled AC adapter cord. The recall affects IdeaPads in the B, G, S, U, V, and Z families, but only models that were built between February 2011 and December 2011 (and were sold between February 2011 and June 2012). Figuring out whether you have one of the recalled cords is easy: put the end of the cord under a light so you can read the molded text and look for “LS-15,” which should be right... Read more...
Lenovo just won’t quit with the quirky form factors (which we’re glad for), and the company’s latest innovation is the Lenovo Miix, a 10.1-inch Windows 8 tablet that comes equipped with a “quick flip” detachable folio case that doubles as an AccuType keyboard. The device has a 10.1-inch HD (1366x768) IPS display and runs on a dual-core Intel Atom processor with 64GB of built-in storage, WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0, optional 3G-GPS, and 10 hours of battery life. The tablet itself weighs 1.2 pounds and is just 0.4 inches thick. Lenovo Miix (curiously, without the folio case attached) The concept is that the Miix performs double duty as both a tablet and a lightweight laptop.... Read more...
The awkward days of Window 8 laptops without touchscreens aren’t behind us just yet, but the end is in sight. It’s easy enough to resist touching the Start screen on a desktop PC, but when a laptop display is inches from your fingers, if you're anything like us, your instinct is to reach out and touch it. Thankfully, affordable touch-enabled laptops have begun to hit store shelves, like Lenovo's new IdeaPad Z400 Touch. Lenovo’s IdeaPad Z400 Touch is one of the laptops ushering in the era of touch screens for mid-range systems, so we’re taking it for a spin (and a swipe) for you here... While the mainstream seems to be signaling that the iPad is the clear favorite in the tablet race, Android is making a slow and deliberate push into that market share. With the introduction of the low-cost, high-powered, well-built Nexus 7, Android tabs have become more than an obsession for the technically savvy. Now, players like Lenovo are starting to get in on the action as well, with the IdeaTab A2107 being added to AT&T's tablet lineup today. The tab was initially announced at IFA last year, but now it's making a U.S. debut on a major carrier for a tantalizing price point. It's a 7" device that includes a dual-core Cortex A9 processor, Android 4.0, a 1024x600 resolution display, Wi-Fi... Read more...
Among the many items Lenovo has chosen to announce just days before the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas is a new lineup of consumer and business Windows 8 touch-optimized notebooks. According to Lenovo, "people love touch," and the OEM is putting its money where its mouth is by aggressively integrating touch capabilities into an extensive line of PCs. Let's have a look at Lenovo's upcoming notebook products with touch. Lenovo's signature IdeaPad U310 and U410 mainstream Ultrabooks models are the first up to bat. These thin and light PCs feature 10-point multi-touch displays and are supposed to blend form with function, measuring just 18mm (U310) and 21mm (U410) thin. The IdeaPad... Read more...

Although Nvidia's Tegra 3 has been taking tablets and smartphones by storm, there are other noteworthy mobile processors out there, including Qualcomm's dual-core, 1.5GHz 8060A. The Snapdragon S4 SoC appears in the Lenovo IdeaTab S2110, which is a 10.1-inch tablet that runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0. That's not a bad setup for a tablet, particularly if you're shopping on a tighter budget. Lenovo took a different approach with the IdeaTab S2110’s display than we usually see. Whereas other tablet makers are gunning for the highest resolution displays, Lenovo opted for a 10.1-inch screen with 1280 x 800 resolution and a 16:10 ratio. That means 1080p is out of the question, but the screen... Read more...

The creative folks at Lenovo are ready to hit the ground running when Windows 8 ships on October 26th. In preparation for "Windows 8 Day," as we'll call it, Lenovo is debuting this evening four funktastic looking convertible notebooks, each with their own twist on the flexible form factor, including one device aptly named "Twist." We'll go ahead and start with that one. Lenovo's IdeaPad Twist aims to put a new spin on small business computing, literally and figuratively. Lenovo took a full-performance Ultrabook and injected a twist-top design that allows users to swivel the laptop into a convertible tablet. No matter which way you use it, the Twist boasts a 12.5-inch HD (1366x768) IPS display... Read more...
Ultrabooks may be selling like hotcakes but one area that has obviously been a challenge for notebook manufacturers is price point. Intel's $1,000 goal (not to mention their recent Ivy Bridge ULT-based $799 target) has been hard to hit, given all the pricey tech that goes into making these slim systems sing. Most have come in at well over the $1K mark – until recently. That brings us to the Lenovo IdeaPad U310, which has a price tag that, depending on the configuration, slides the machine into mainstream notebook territory. Today, we're taking a look at Lenovo's IdeaPad U310 Core i5-3317U model, which weighs in nicely at  Intel's current even more aggressive utltrabook price target... Read more...
The recent rise and fall of the netbook as a computer category made one thing clear: consumers are willing to sacrifice some screen size and power in the name of portability, but not as much as a netbook requires. On the other hand, many shoppers are willing to pay a premium for a thinner, lighter notebook, and that's where the ultrabook comes in. As the Windows-based competitor to Apple's popular MacBook Air, the ultrabook category has been reasonably well-received. Intel created the term "ultrabook" last year and stirred up plenty of buzz about it at CES this January, promising systems that would be powerful (compared to netbooks) and svelte (compared to notebooks). You'll turn heads if you... Read more...
If you always though Intel's Ultrabook form factor could use an injection of color, consider yourself on the same wavelength as Lenovo, which today announced the worldwide availability its apparently "coveted" IdeaPad U310 (13.3-inch) and U410 (14-inch) Ultrabook models powered by Intel's 3rd Generation Core processor line (Ivy Bridge). "Ultrabooks are an industry game changer that shift not only the way people think about laptop design, but also how much performance technology can be packed into such a thin and light device," said Peter Hortensius, president, Product Group, Lenovo. "Lenovo Ultrabooks free people from having to choose between a device with a productivity-focused user experience... Read more...
Hope you're ready for a swarm of new notebooks, because that's what's happening this week. Lenovo is joining Acer and Asus (amongst others) by revealed two new machines, the IdeaPad U310 and U410. These guys use Intel's new 3rd-gen Core processors, and the company's investing quite a bit in advertising to make sure people know about it. The new Ultrabooks are available in a variety of vibrant colors including Sapphire Blue, Aqua Blue, Cherry Blossom Pink, Graphite Grey or Metallic Red, giving you plenty of color options starting at under $800. The 13.3-inch U310 and 14-inch U410 measure only 0.7-inch (18mm) and 0.83-inch (21mm) thick and weigh just 3.74lbs (1.7kg) and 4.18lbs (1.9kg), respectively.... Read more...
