Folding displays seem like the next frontier in smartphone design. Whether the actual display folds in half -- as we’ve seen with the Galaxy Z Fold 2, Galaxy Z Flip 5G and Motorola Razr -- or if there are dual displays as with the Surface Duo, manufacturers are slowly warming up to the concept. The big problem with all of these designs is their cost of entry, which has turned off many consumers. The Surface Duo starts at $1,499, while the original Galaxy Fold was priced at $1,980. Samsung, however, appears to be working on a new folding Galaxy smartphone that would be more palatable to the general populous. According to a new report from SamMobile, Samsung’s... Read more...
Samsung threw us a curveball this morning by officially announcing its oft-leaked Galaxy Z Flip 5G a few weeks early. We were expecting the smartphone to be announced on August 5th at Galaxy Unpacked, but here we are without the usual fanfare. The Galaxy Z Flip 5G doesn't change the formula too much compared to the original, but it does ditch last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ SoC in favor or the new flagship Snapdragon 865+ Mobile Platform. As its updated naming suggests, that means that the smartphone now includes standard 5G wireless connectivity courtesy of the Snapdragon X55 modem. Samsung also revealed that the Galaxy Z Flip 5G will be available in two new... Read more...
Many folks are anticipating the next big thing in smartphones from Samsung. A few details on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G smartphone turned up early this month. Among those details were leaked images and a 360 video that showed the device in a slick bronze color. Some new information on the 5G version of Samsung's folding clamshell smartphone has surfaced that hints at a different chipset under the hood than previously expected. When the first leak happened in early July, the smartphone was expected to use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor along with a 5G radio, 8 GB of RAM, and 256 GB of storage. A new rumor that comes from renowned leaker Max Weinbach claims that the only part of the Galaxy... Read more...
Samsung has taken to Twitter to confirm the date for its Unpacked event that will undoubtedly bring new smartphones (and more) for fans to enjoy. The teaser event shows a copper-colored stylus with a bit of liquid dripping off the tip and splattering on a white surface. The only text reads "Power - a new form for a new norm. Unpacked on August 5, 2020." The tweet also carries the hashtag #SamsungEvent. As for what device Samsung may be teasing with the copper-color dripping off the stylus, if we had to bet we'd say it's the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra that leaked at the beginning of the month. The device that turned up in that leaked image, which can be seen above, has what appears to be the same exact... Read more...
If there was any question about what Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5G smartphone will end up looking like, a set of leaked renders should put the matter to rest—the phone will look identical to the regular Galaxy Z Flip, just in at least one different color option. Notably, it looks like the 5G variant will come in a "Mystic Bronze" color scheme (and probably some other colors as well). Flip phones were all the rage when cellular devices were relatively new, but waned in popularity when smartphones arrived on the scene. Modern versions attempt to offer the best of both worlds—a smartphone screen and experience in a flip-phone form factor. As such, Samsung earlier this year launched... Read more...
Following the rocky launch of the Galaxy Fold, Samsung debuted the cheaper and more pocketable Galaxy Z Flip, which debuted on February 14th. Samsung is looking to quickly iterate on this design, and the follow-up Galaxy Z Flip 5G is gaining all of the necessary regulatory clearances to launch globally. Earlier this month, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G (SM-N9810) showed up in a China Compulsory Certification listing. This week, the smartphone made an appearance in the Bluetooth SIG database, with models destined for AT&T, T-Mobile, and Sprint wireless networks. Curiously, there is no mention of a variant for Verizon’s network. This is just speculation on our part, but it could be due to... Read more...
Some interesting information detailing a couple of Samsung's upcoming smartphones have emerged, courtesy of a new China Compulsory Certification (CCC, or 3C) listing. The listing highlights a couple of model numbers—Samsung SM-F7070 and Samsung SM-N9810—that are believed to be in reference to the Galaxy Note 20 and Galaxy Z Flip 5G. We don't get any concrete specifications about the underlying hardware of either handset. However, the certifications offering up some details about the charging capabilities of each handset. According the listing, the Galaxy Note 20 will ship with a 25W charger, while the Galaxy Z Flip G will come bundled with a 15W charger. Curiously missing is an indication... Read more...
