We learned this morning that Mass Effect: Andromeda is being delayed until 2017, but it looks as though Electronic Arts its right on track for a 2016 debut for Titanfall 2. The mech-infused game is scheduled to land during fiscal Q3 according to EA CEO Andrew Wilson, which means that it should blast onto B&M and digital store shelves somewhere between October and the end of December (barring any last-minute hiccups). Interestingly enough, the launch timeframe will put Titanfall 2 right up against Battlefield 1, which will launch on October 21st. But Wilson isn’t worried about cannibalization and indicates that there is plenty of room in the $4.5 billion first-person shooter category for both... Read more...
Brace yourself, Battlefield 5's world premier is coming. In the meantime, go ahead and grab your detective cap, you're going to need it. In anticipation of today's world premier, which is scheduled for 4PM Eastern (1PM Pacific), DICE and Electronic Arts have taken to social media to tease eager gamers with clues about the Battlefield 5, including an extremely short video. The clip is less than 10 seconds long and you have to look very closely for subtle hints. All you see is the neck up of a rendered soldier with detailed facial features, including dirt and the pits of his skin. It's an impressive visual, one that's labeled as "game engine footage," not to be confused with in-game footage. Take... Read more...
Get out your driving gloves and buckle up folks, the newest Need for Speed title from developer Ghost Games and publisher Electronic Arts is burning rubber to PCs next month with a few new fancy features in tow. One of those is a 4K resolution option with uncapped framerates. If you have the necessary horsepower to drive a 4K gaming experience, you'll be treated to some sweet visuals. Ghost Games also added manual transmission support to the forthcoming PC release. This was one of the notable omissions when the Need for Speed reboot launched to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 back in early November of last year, and while console gamers will also be getting this amenity at some point, it's not known... Sorry, not sorry Denver Broncos fans, but your battered team led by Satan Manning is going to lose the Super Bowl. Yes, that's a prediction of a bitter New England Patriots fan (me), but also that of Electronic Arts' Madden NFL 16 simulation. Before you dismiss it as just a video game, consider that there are plenty of reasons why you should take the prediction seriously. EA's Madden franchise has a favorable history in predicting the Super Bowl winner. How favorable? Try 9 out of 12. That's right, out of 12 attempts at predicting a Super Bowl winner by way of a game simulation, EA's Madden titles have gotten it right all but three times. If you're a gambling man or woman, a 75 percent success... Read more...
With all due respect, if watching the official launch trailer for Star Wars: Battlefront doesn't get you pumped for the game's release next month, you might not have a pulse. Seriously, we think it's even listed as a warning sign for a zombie related disease in WebMD. That also means the pressure is on developer DICE and publisher Electronic Arts to deliver an epic multiplayer experience that lives up to the pre-release hype. Though the newest Battlefront title will be the third in the series, it's not a sequel to the previous versions, but a reboot. You'll play from either a first-person or third-person perspective (you can switch at any time) as a Rebel Alliance soldier or an Imperial Stormtrooper.... Read more...
The last thing the PC gaming industry needs right now is for another high profile game to debut with performance hampering bugs or other issues that detract from the experience. With that in mind, developer Ghost said it's pushing the release date for the PC version of Need for Speed to Spring 2016 so that it can tweak a few things. Chief among them is an unlocked frame rate, something that Ghost says PC gamers made clear "is a massive priority" (and Ghost fully agrees). Ghost will also use the additional time to improve the game's graphics and code the same content updates that will have already been available to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The delay doesn't affect either console version --... Read more...
Market research firm NPD Group released its game sales data for the month of August, which were down 10 percent year-over-year to $207.9 million. This year's new releases just couldn't live up to the blockbuster titles that came out a year ago, including Diablo III for consoles and The Last of Us for PlayStation 4.This timer around, it was EA's Madden NFL 16 that topped the games sales chart, followed by Minecraft. Yes, Minecraft , and that's indicative of why sales are down. Having a game that made its first appearance in 2009 in alpha form and in 2011 as a polished product take the number two spot on the sales chart is indicative of the need for more hit titles. Here's a look at the top ten... Electronic Arts is getting ready to release it's newest Madden game, Madden NFL 2016, to various game consoles tomorrow (August 25, 2016), though if you're anxious to hit the gridiron, you can score a copy for free for the Xbox One today, a day early. All you have to do is enter a promo code in Uber and cross your fingers. You're not guaranteed to get a free copy, and considering that demand will be "VERY HIGH" with limited availability, it amounts to a Hail Mary pass. Nevertheless, free copies are out there for the taking, and I've already seen one of my Facebook contacts boast about scoring one simply by firing up Uber. The free copies are being distributed by Uber drivers across all 32 NFL... Read more...
There's no shortage of ways to get games on your TV, but that doesn't matter to Comcast, because it wants to offer one of the more compelling ones. Perhaps it'll be able to pull that off on account of the fact that it's teaming up with EA, a company that knows a thing or two about games. Alright, I'll say it: Comcast and EA are two of the most hated companies on the planet, so to see them team up almost seems like two evil deities teaming up to further ruin the world. But without being snarky, this collaboration does have some high points, all of which are quite obvious from the get-go. Comcast's X1 platform is what makes all of this possible. Up to this point, it's delivered TV and shows, but... Read more...
There were lots of juicy bits at this year's E3 convention, among them a full five minutes of actual gameplay footage from the third installment in the Star Wars Battlefront series. What makes this trailer so exciting is that the gameplay is plucked from a PlayStation 4, as opposed to renders made with the game engine or cutscenes that don't actually depict gameplay graphics. It's a wild five-minute ride filled with TIE fighters, X-Wings (which you get to fly, by the way), AT-ATs, AT-STs, rebel troopers, stormtrooopers, lasers, lightsabers, and, well, you get the point. When the finished product ships, you'll be able to join the Empire and accompany AT-AT walkers as they march... Read more...
There are several different contraptions designed to allow men to simulate what it's like being pregnant, but as most women will attest, none of them truly duplicate the experience. That's especially true when it comes to the act of child birth -- we're just not equipped for such things. However, that hasn't stopped male characters in The Sims 4 from getting pregnant. The quirky phenomenon appears to be an unintended side effect of the The Sims 4: Get to Work expansion pack. It's one of the more hilarious bugs the add-on brings to the game, and it has some Sims players intentionally trying to get their male characters to have a bump in their bellies, and not the kind that comes from consuming... This has been a tremendous week for Star Wars fans. First we got to see Han Solo and Chewbacca make an emotional appearance in the newest Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer (the second official trailer Disney has put out) and now Electronic Arts is treating us to a visual smorgasbord of cinema-quality footage showing the forthcoming Star Wars Battlefront game. Had you not known it was a game, it would be easy to mistake the trailer for an upcoming movie. Instead, you're seeing actual game engine footage of the multiplayer shooter, which was unveiled Friday at Star Wars Celebration, an annual convention celebrating one of the most popular science fiction franchises of all time. I don't know... Read more...
The much anticipated first person shooter Battlefield Hardline released to retail in North America today for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Windows (it will launch in the EU on March 19th and in the UK on March 20). With the release comes a new live action trailer that plays out like preview for an action movie flick. Developed by Visceral Games in collaboration with EA Digital Illusions CE and published by Electronic Arts, the game is notable because it deviates from previous Battlefield titles by focusing on the age-old cops and robbers theme rather than traditional military engagements. As such, it's a different kind of game play, one that's been garnering... Read more...
Word is out that Electronic Arts has closed down Maxis Emeryville, the studio responsible for the buggy SimCity remake and, more recently, The Sims 4. Guillaume Pierre, a designer and lead gameplay scripter for SimCity, first revealed the news on Twitter saying, "Well it was a fun 12 years, but it's time to turn off the lights and put the key under the door. RIP Maxis Emeryville." Subsequent tweets would clarify that yes, "the shop is closing down," followed by confirmation from EA once the news spread. The timing really couldn't have been worse, as EA dropped the bombshell right in the middle of the Game Developer Conference (GDC), an annual event where developers and game studios from around... Are games getting too complex? One person who thinks they are is Richard Hilleman, chief creative officer for Electronic Arts. Speaking at the D.I.C.E. Summit in Las Vegas recently, Hilleman lamented that games are "too hard to learn," pointing out that it can take several precious hours just to get in a groove with a basic title. "Our games are actually still too hard to learn. The average player probably spends two hours to learn how to play the most basic game," Hilleman said. "And asking for two hours of somebody's time--most of our customers, between their normal family lives...to find two contiguous hours to concentrate on learning how to play a video game is a big ask."He made the comments... Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll made the wrong call at the end of Super Bowl XLIX and potentially cost his team from being crowned back-to-back champions, though it played out almost exactly as simulated in Madden NFL 15 on the Xbox One, which correctly predicted the final score and winning team a week prior to the big game -- 28-24 in favor of the New England Patriots. In doing so, Electronic Arts' Madden franchise improves its record to 9-3 in annual Super Bowl simulations. That's impressive in and of itself, though this is the first time in a dozen Super Bowls that EA's football simulation not only picked the correct team, but also the score. It's come close before, but has also been way... Read more...
Despite all the distractions over pigskin bladders this past week, the New England Patriots will be prepared for the staunch defense of the Seattle Seahawks and win Super Bowl XLIX, with quarterback Tom Brady earning the MVP award. So says Madden NFL 15 in an annual simulation that Electronic Arts has been doing for over a decade. It's worth bringing up that the annual Madden simulations have put together a record of 8-3 up to this point. Impressive, though not without some embarrassing misses, like predicting a Denver Broncos victory over the Seahawks last year to the tune of 31-28. Instead, things went bad for Manning and company from the very first snap, and it was the... Read more...
Absent of any real fanfare or even a simple press release, publisher Electronic Arts has launched its new SimCity BuildIt game for iOS and Android devices. The all-new SimCity game is a free-to-play mobile title "designed for gamers on the go." Taking advantage of the touchscreens that adorn smartphones and tablets, SimCity BuildIt supports gestures like pinch, zoom, and rotate. "Evolve your city in a variety of ways. Meet your citizens' needs to keep them happy, or make questionable choices and feel your citizens' wrath," Electronic Arts states. Though it's free to download and play, the game is also ready to serve up in-app purchases. A list of the top in-app purchases is filled with varying... Read more...
There's a new Sims title in town, and it's unlike any previous version you've played before. The Sims 4, now available on PC, lets you create Sims that have their own personalities, and just as in real life, they change over time depending on how you interact with them. According to Electronic Arts, these new Sims are smarter, more relatable, and emotionally aware. "Every Sim is unique in The Sims 4, your own individual creations that come to life with big personalities and endless possibilities," said Rachel Franklin, Executive Producer for The Sims 4. "Who they are on the inside changes the way you play. Your Sims embody the traits and aspirations you give them in The Sims 4, and playing out... Read more...
Looks like Electronic Arts is not holding back this year with its sports games. The video game publisher is expecting to make around $1 billion in revenue from downloadable content and is also taking steps to crack down on cheaters for its various sports titles. Madden NFL 15 is one of the key games to EA’s strategy. Aside from players paying $60 for the standard game, EA is pumping out a plethora of add-on content such as Ultimate Team players, jerseys, coaches, playbooks, and stadiums. The Madden Ultimate Team packs, which can be purchased with Madden Points, are a huge moneymaker for EA that comes with at least one gold or elite player, nine other players, and some. Analysts, such as... Read more...
Electronic Arts has been in a giving mood lately. After discontinuing support for The Sims 2 Ultimate Collection last month, the publisher decided to give the game away at no cost through its Origin digital distribution service. And through its On-The-House program, EA has temporarily removed the price tags from several games, such as Peggle and Battlefield 3. Now Wing Commander III: Heart of the Tiger is up for grabs. Like previous titles that appeared on EA's On-The-House program, this one can disappear at any time, so pounce quickly if you want relive those awful cut scenes that we thought were the cat's meow back in the day. Once you claim the game, it's yours to keep until the end of time... Read more...
Microsoft is digging deep in its bags of tricks to convince gamers that its Xbox One console is the better option versus Sony's PlayStation 4, the latter of which is maintaining a somewhat large sales lead. Following the launch of a Kinect-less console for a reduced $399 price tag, Microsoft has joined forces with Electronic Arts to offer a rather nifty gaming service. It's called EA Access and it runs $5 per month. Alternately, you can pay $30 for an annual membership and save 50 percent. Either way, you'll enjoy unlimited access to "The Vault," inside of which is a collection of four EA games. They include FIFA 14, Madden NFL 25, Peggle 2, and Battlefield 4. That comes out to over $100 worth... Read more...
